May 23, 2017Love these! Elegant, easy to grasp, and makes Aura's playable. The only complaint is that it plays VERY similarly to how Bestow plays. I don't know if there is a reason you would prefer to Bestow but still, very cool.Posted in: Custom Card Creation
May 23, 2017I have to be the first person ever to score a 24 and NOT move on lol. Congrats to those in my bracket that did! Good luck!!Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games

Legendary Creature - Kithkin Adviser (R)
Creature spells with converted mana cost 4 or greater can't be cast.
Creature spells with X in their mana costs can't be cast.
The Great Aurora sometimes only changed a single aspect.

Starting with you, each player may return a card from their graveyard to their hand. Repeat this process until no one returns a card to their hand. Exile Summer Solstice.
A fleeting day of celebration and rebirth.
May 2, 2017Posted in: Custom Card CreationQuote from entombedhydra »I like boons (lightning bolt, etc.), so I like the idea of printing a few cycles of boons (ideally so they can mix and match in reprint sets...).
Escape the PitB
Return a creature card with a converted mana cost of 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
(Instant Speed unearth w/o cycling. Unearth is a super fun card, and this makes it a combat trick to boot. Somehow I doubt "3 drop reanimator" will warp the format... but it'll certainly be fun to run a 3 drop toolbox deck.)
Unearth is overall a pretty solid card. Removing cycling for instant speed makes this pushed for something that you want as a base card for the color.
Create three 1/1 white soldier creature tokens. Exile those tokens at the end of turn.
(This seems a bit strong, and certainly easy to abuse in sacrifice decks... but you know what? Let the bodies hit the floor.)
Wording issues aside, this is a mini-Waylay. This seems fine.
Put three +1/+1 counters on target land. It is a creature until end of turn.
(I like the synergy this has with manlands.)
I do like the interaction this has with manlands but it's awkward putting counters on a land and then probably never using that land as a dude again. I'd rather this just make a land a 3/3 until end of turn but honestly that's pretty weak.
Torrent of SparksR
This deals 1 damage to up to three target creatures or players.
(A few years ago, I would have said this is too good. Given the number of 1/2s for 1 around, however, I'm inclined to think this might not even be playable... doesn't matter, though, as I think lightning bolt and giant growth are perfect boons, so their counterparts in this cycle won't see as many reprintings.)
Am I reading this wrong or is this just Arc Lightning but at instant speed and costing 2 less? If it is, this card is BUSTED.
Choose three instant, sorcery, or artifact cards in your graveyard with different names. Target opponent puts two of these cards on the bottom of your library, then put the remaining card into your hand.
(The only "mini-game" card, this is pretty strong I think. It requires setup and variety - but it pays you off with your 3rd best spell card in your graveyard.)
This seems really weak. Regrowth is fine, but regrowthing for the third best noncreatures seems fairly poor.
Return an artifact card with a converted mana cost of 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
(Blue Unearth variant).
Seems fine, though outside of an artifact set this is less relevant.
Restored from SilenceW
Return an enchantment card with a converted mana cost of 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
(You see where I'm going with this...)
Seems fine, but as with the current theme of these, outside of a specific environment, this feels weak.
Return up to 3 target land cards from your graveyard to your hand.
(Card Advantage Machine is a go!)
Life from the Loam was cool because it fueled itself. Outside of a land themed set, this feels weak.

Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage, put a charge counters on Relic From The Past.
Remove a charge counter from Relic From The Past: Choose one —
• Equipped creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
• Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
• You gain 1 life.

Creatures you control gain exalted until end of turn.

May 1, 2017And I'd argue that Fading isn't really an eligible mechanic as Vanishing was created to replace it.Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games
May 1, 2017I have to echo the concern in the actual thread, Time Spiral really hurts this challenge.Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games
Apr 20, 2017The problem with all of these (and most attempts at creating a "balanced" Lotus) is that they are either completely unplayable garbage until someone finds a way to break them and then they are just, in fact, broken. Just look at Lion's Eye Diamond. The card was laughed at and mocked until someone figured out how to use it as a Lotus, now it's arguably the best mana accelerent in the Storm deck.Posted in: Custom Card Creation

Jan 29, 2014Posted in: Koopa BlogQuote from i-never-smileDo you think you could elaborate more about why "Deathrite isn’t really all that degenerate. It is a strong card sure, but it’s a completely fair card." This piqued my interest...and then you changed the subject. Isn't DRS one of the biggest subjects of debate for ban/unban discussion?
Deathrite is the card most people are crying for a ban over but that doesn't mean it deserves to be banned. Deathrite is literally a situational mana dork that can disrupt the graveyard. An incredibly strong card indeed, but do you honestly think that is ban worthy?
Dec 16, 2009As a ex-Yugi player, I know how Yugi feels when you first pick it up. Fast, exciting, fun! But I wouldn't advise going too much into it. The game is ridiculously unbalanced and Konami, unlike Wizards, doesn't really care until the list rotation every 6 months. In which case they ban cards they've already milked for money... not what needs to be banned or restricted to make the format balanced. Then once THEY DO make a good format, they release on of their weekly sets that release 5 cards that completley brake the game.Posted in: Chrome homura Blog
Also, you're lucky that your Yugi players are so nice. Most are little punks who always take the game way to serious or bitch when they lose, granted it is the same with all cards game. Yugi has a much higher "crime"(theft, cheating, ect...) rate than Magic.
I just quit Yugi and I tell ya Magic is a hella lot more fun in the long run... not to say Yugi is a bad game, but Konami is a bad company...
