I know I made an error about Nissa's origin from DOTP 2012. It should have been the original DOTP. -
Sep 22, 2015Jay13x posted a message on Archive Trap: The World of Zendikar: Part IDo you have a reference for the Moon Kraken being Lorthos? If I missed something, I'm happy to change it.Posted in: Articles
The Moon Kraken (the character you're talking about) doesn't seem to have much in common with Lorthos other than being a sea creature (he's much smaller, for one thing), and if Lorthos had started out as a Kraken I might be inclined to think it got changed after the book was written, but the articles I link to here say he started as an Octopus. In addition, Speaker Sutina was a Tajuru elf (Nissa was on a kind of Mission with them), and the small story with Lorthos indicates he's on the coast of Ondu, while the Moon Kraken was on the coast of Akoum. But, frankly, I don't trust anything from In the Teeth of Akoum anyway, which I'll explain in the next article.
Now, don't get me wrong, I wish In the Teeth of Akoum had a cameo like that, but we're talking about a book that gets the main character's name wrong on the first page (Nissa Revine).
We discuss the plot in parts II and II, where we talk about the block novel in detail -

Sorry for the typos! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
I believe the first one is real, especially for this set. You can't target players, so it doesn't have as much utility as lightning bolt. It is also perfect to kill almost every wall in the set, as they all seem to have 4 damage.
The second one I believe as well, as they've stated getting rid of the Eldrazi Spawn tokens as a major focus of removal.
You are absolutely right. Whatever this card is, it didn't come from Wizards of the Coast.
The block symbol touches the top of the type box, the kerning is off, and the typeface is off. I worked as a graphic designer for years, so I know when typefaces don't match up. It's close though. The text is also distorted in certain areas.
It may, however, just be someone typing in known info to a card creator, which would explain all of this.
Awesome card.
You need to post it to the Something Awful forums. It sounds perfect for the Comedy Goldmine.
This is true. If you read The Hobbit, it is heavily hinted at that 'the Necromancer' in Mirkwood was Sauron trapped in incorporeal form.
As far as Magic jumping the Shark, I have two:
1.) Nicol Bolas is Ugin. I can even see the story, where while he was trapped in the void he became a colorless spirit dragon to venture out.
2.) Revisiting the Weatherlight Saga or Urza. There is just too much complexity there for new players to care, and the newer characters and planeswalkers are what provide the draw. The story should stay finished after Time Spiral, with the exception of a few characters you don't need to know much about, like Bolas. Ancient evil is always ancient evil, regardless of back story, so he works. Reference are fine, but don't go retreading such a long and complex story. As much as I'd love to see Squee, Planestumbler.

With our luck they will just reprint Terminal Moraine. While not a bad card, the kind of card you suggested sounds better.
I still have the champion deck from 1999, where vendetta and flametongue kavu cleared the path for a win, but I'm not sure how useful this would be today. I am liking all the reprints we're seeing lately, as they all come from sets that I started out with (around invasion).
I remember, as doing it tended to be very frustrating (and there were enough secret grottos with faeries that doing it didn't matter), but ultimately then he's still talking about the the Faeries, isn't he? I just assumed he was half-remembering the game. My bad.
The 'butterflies' from Ocarina of Time were Faeries, the graphics were just pretty bad.
Mesa Enchantress draws cards for white in standard, although it is a Planar Chaos 'alternate reality' card. Rhox Menditant does as well, but only if you control a green permanent, so I'm not sure how much that counts.
In extended you've got Bandage, Carom, Curtain of Light, Festival of the Guildpact, Niveous Wisps, Pentarch Ward, Reviving Dose, Scout's Warning, Surge of Thoughtweft, Swift Maneuver, To Arms! and Withstand.
I'd say white has the ability and precedent to draw cards, and this card makes sense with their 'defender matters' theme.
You and I just become best friends.
Seriously, I was already planning on Sarkhan the Mad for my B/R Goblin Sacrifice Deck "Boggart Jihad", but Tuktuk the Explorer is insane. It will definitely make my buddies reevaluate defending at all. The combo between these two will be awesome.
Tuktuk the Explorer is definitely the card I'm most excited about from this set now.
You remember fun? You had it while playing this game back when if someone asked you about playing Elder Dragon Highlander you would think of an wizened dragon in a kilt playing the bagpipes? Before the only decks you cared about are the ones that would win tournaments, and you didn't know what aggro meant?
One of the people in this thread even complained about there being no 'money rares'. I hope there aren't, because I want to actually be able to afford the cards I want. Who wants to drop $10 dollars on a single card, much less $50 (or even close to $100, Tarmogoyf you SOB).
Levelers look like fun, although I think the level up ability should have been one mana each for all of them, with the levels being higher to match it. It would at least partially compensate for the slowness of the ability.
Does anyone else think the wizard looks familiar? I could swear the artist used D.B. Woodside (Buffy, 24) for his reference.
That sounds awesome. I was just thinking of using Otherworldly Journey but being able to use abilities again will be ridiculous.
My mistake. I started playing around the Invasion block but never paid much attention to the story until the newer Planeswalkers novels. I knew the jist of everything that came before from websites, but thats it.
The reality is they most likely don't want to pidgeonhole themselves by defining this planeswalker too early.
