They sold a lot of these, likely more then last year. I even heard stories that you could buy these with out a golden ticket at the convention by just walking up. I think that, plus it is the 3rd time they have made them has driven the price down. I think in another week they will be $150-175.
For you math wizards, I have a request. Assuming the information Ive heard is correct, if there are eight thousand registered for GP LV, roughly how many Goyfs will be opened at this main event alone?
Let's have a look here.
Probability of opening Tarmogoyf: (1/8)*(1/15)=0.833%. Plus the foil slot, which as I understand it is 1/121 to be mythic, so (1/121)*(1/15)=0.055%.
I've used data from the six largest among the 10 most recent individual GPs to calculate that 11.6% of players make Day 2, or 926 players. So, including the top 8s (there will be two, remember!), that gives us (8000*6)+(926*6)+(16*3)=53604 packs.
This will result in 447 regular Tarmogoyfs and 30 foil Tarmogoyfs being opened (barring, of course, flaws in my calculations).
Math gurus, I have attendance numbers! GP: Utrecht - 3,613, GP: Chiba - 3,551, GP: Las Vegas - 7,500. Roughly how many Goyfs at these main events?
14,664 attendees. 1,701 Day two. Three top eights 48
(14664 x 6) + (1701 x 6) + (48 x 3) = 98,334 packs. Percent of Goyf openings is 816 regular Goyfs?
Do know that those numbers are how many played round one. They do not include the very large number of people who open and dropped. Also Vegas did not run out of mm2 and ran a ton of drafts. Let alone a 800 person 2HG and a 900 person sealed event.
It's a casual power house. This thing has Timmy written all over it. And casuals don't sell their cards, so they tend to dry up. On top of that, it sees some play in modern and Red decks, so there is demand from there.
Best time was likely 4-6 months ago (75-80$) You maybe able to find a deal in the low 80s from someone wanting to dump their overstock, but I think they are moving higher at this point. Current auctions on EBay look more at high 80s. Massdrop has 83$ shipped for the next 6 days. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/conspiracy-booster-box which is pretty good.
Wow. Gorgeous card. I bet it gets an 8.5 or a 9. Either is respectable, but it will make a big difference. I personally would not becuase it cuts you off from selling to players who are unwilling to crack the case, limiting your market to collectors only.
Is Becket the only source for legitimate/acceptable grading? If not, who else does it?
There are a few But only BGS and PSA are considered really reputable. BGS being the most reputable and a harder grader. The less reputable the less of a bump you get for each grade. BGS 9 tend to fetch more value then a PSA 9 and more then a SGC 9
I could go to Omaha first to get some prices from dealers, then after the grand prix put the collection on EBay with their cash offer as my minimum price.
Most dealers really don't want to spend the time pricing out a large collection if you're not going serious about selling it to them. Your better off just using SCG or other buylists and adding it all up yourself and then selling it on Ebay.
Fasted cash in hand is a dealer at a GP. Since they will give you value for everything you have of value, And then even take your bulk. Big dealers will buy everything you have no matter what it is.
The change from giving out judge foils at GPs to the exemplar program has probably slowed rate of more copies entering the markets. They're trying to mail out the first wave of foils from the pilot program, and there may be a number of elesh norns entering with this mailing.
That's good news. I'm wondering how long it will take before we see another wave; hopefully it's a big enough one to reduce the price tag on these.
Well GP packets are gone as of now. So till we even see what is in Exemplar packets/waves who knows if it is even in there at this point. Judge promos can be weird. It could be a Judge conference only card that comes out next year.
good to hear. My FLGS has been holding the Hardbacks till they get the cards. If it is a great promo then awesome, if it is a reprint, no biggie i get to read the comic finally.
Foil Judge Family will be easier since there is a FNM version. And isn't really played much anymore other than judges looking for them. There are 120 copies of the FNM version on TCGplayer of the FNM alone. both version run 1-2$ each or more. (they buy list for .50-1$) None Foils would be very easy to get.
Decree of Justice is an old card and much harder to find foiled. Only 32 of them on TCG player. (Judge foil version are more expensive and likely just as hard to find) So i doubt that will work for you.
Maybe Archon of the Triumvirate Pre-release foil? Very easy to pick up for less than .50 so shouldn't be hard to find people who will to trade them.
Isperia, Supreme Judge foils are only about 2$ and none foils are .50$, so both are also options.
"On the 16th of May 1997, Wizards of the Coast opened an online store which allowed people to buy their products directly over the internet. In order to promote sales and to win customers for the online store, a temporary reward program was initialized in 1999. For each purchased Mercadian Masques booster box, the buyer was presented a Serra Angel foil card while supply lasted."
If they don't know someone who has one to sell I'd guess they contact the major resellers and tell them they are interested in buying one. They can keep there eyes out for them, and act as a middle man. At least thats how i'd do it these days if i had the money to throw around.
