A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

I have played WAR at prerelease, drafted it 3 times on Arena and 1 time with friends in paper.

I have added quite a lot of cards lately, together witch the UMA cards and RNA cards.
So maybe I created a mess I have to sort out later after play testing more.
The following short review will focus on the planeswalkers i added and my first impressions.

I have added all hybrid Walkers except Huatli, the Sun's Heart and compensated by adding Kitchen Finks. (Before I didn`t run any hybrid cards) I don´t think Dovin, Hand of Control will make it in the long run, but i don´t have a replacement on hand/ idea for a replacement.
    Mono-colored Walkers I added:
W: The Wanderer (testing) Seems like "bad" 2 for 1 removal, interested in how the passiv playes out.
U: Narset, Parter of Veils (testing) Already played with her, she felt great and i never missed, but my deck was perfekt for her.
Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor Seems very good, played strong on arena, especially with something like Grateful Apparition.
B: Ob Nixilis, the Hate-Twisted Odd one, but liked it at prerelease on my own creatures and left with 3 as a threat to play bombs for my opp.
Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage much better than expected, played in paper and on arena, good in aggro and control.
R: Tibalt, Rakish Instigator just very annoying for opp and I like that.
G: Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter (testing) Didn´t impress me on arena and in paper, wouldn´t surprise me if he gets cut next time

I have allready played one Winston Cubedraft with planeswalkers. You can see the deck as attachment.
I have to say I really enjoyed the deck, it has a lot of walkers, 8 in total and it played very good. I have played 8 games in total, with and against the deck. Here some thoughts on the planeswalkers I ran in the deck:
Saheeli, Sublime Artificer Really awesome, triggering on each noncreature spell created a lot of tokens, very strong in the right deck.
Dovin, Hand of Control Was ok, and the passiv is more relevant than expected. But very replaceable and played like a more interesting but still bad version of Pacifism. Will likely get cut next time.
Narset, Parter of Veils Feels great to activate, is more interesting selective draw in a format with, very similar draw spells, that I liked. Impact and restrictions make her narrow, passiv didn`t do anything, opponent had only "put into hand effects", so she was ignored a lot.
Angrath, Captain of Chaos I think he is just good. Played very good every time, menace for the team is very strong, so he often requires an answer even on 1 loyalty.
Vraska, Swarm's Eminence Like Angrath just a good card. The first token often enables the second. Turns out 4 mana for 2 1/1 deathtoucher is good. Also solid in aggro and control.
Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage I underestimated this guy. early he is able to get more value later he can win the game. Seems to be good in aggro and control. Without protection he is not awesome but the floor of a 1 for 1 and 2+ life is ok. Like I mentioned before moste of this walkers seem to me like more interesting versions of "old" effects.
Kaya, Bane of the Dead Slow expensive removal, nothing special. Nice to have an answer to Plated Crusher and friends, but not really needed. Will likely get cut next time.
Ashiok, Dream Render Was the win condition with Sphinx's Tutelage and did a lot of work. Exiling the graveyard was very strong. Unprotected the opponent had to kill him most of the time. I am interested how much play this will see and think I will keep him/her.

The deck was very strong and won every match and lost 2 games. (2-0, 2-1, 2-1)
The games were longer than usual but there were a lot more decisions and i like that Smile
Overall the walkers seem balanced, maybe some times one the weaker side. But they give the games more unseen effects(at C and UC) and are just interesting cards.
I am very exited to play more games with the walkers and I think they make cube games more complex and fun.

Also I tested Emergence Zone. Never used it. Doesn´t seem to be worth a spot, will get cut. But I will give it one more chance to shine next draft.

So far what are you planning to add or test?

I plan to test it first, maybe by temporary running more than 360 and than adding the good ones.
But only if I still like it after the first hands on experience with the Set at the prerelease and our playgroup sealed and draft.

Is anyone interested in Firemind Vessel?
Seems slow, but is a unique fixing effect in colorless, enabling to splash a guild. Wink
In my cube(360) it would fight for the spot of Hedron Archive.
In my opinion the archive is the better card, but the vessel enables more fun decks. (ignoring the fun of drawing two)
I think some of my drafters would appreciate better fixing.
Maybe I should run both, not sure.

    Topple the Statue
I don´t think its quite there, but for a common in white i appreciate the design. Hope to see more like this, white card design tends to be a little bit boring in my opinion, effective but boring. This is quite versatile.
Reminds me of Crippling Chill with a creative twist.

Whats your opinion on Law-Rune Enforcer?
Not tapping tokens can be annoying but the stats and cmc coast are pretty sweet for a tapper.
I kind of like that he doesn`t hit everything, because I don`t enjoy running functional reprints or cards that are to close to another.
Maybe I´ll add him as additional tapper.
