Damn. Longtime member who's used dozens of accounts, now just lurker, reporting in. This single thread has kept me on this site for years. I can finally rest now. There wont be any more ******* arguments about Twin and getting reported for bringing it up years later. My watch is over.
Idk man, I rock a weird build but I smack Hardened Scales players around. I have 2 Abrade, 4 angers and a single Earthquake mb. SB I have tons of options like Damping Matrix, Shattering Spree, and Eidolon of the Great Revel.
I dont accept it would not be the same, with Twin around. Thats really all it boils down to. If I have to play against Burning Inquiry and 2 Hollow Ones before I've played a land (assuming I still have lands to play) then everyone should have to play against Twin.
If thats not the case on Monday, I can play Mono U Delver (which is going to be busted once Foil hits and probably eat a ban) or mess around for free in Arena, or maybe just put those Polluted Delta and Scalding Tarn to use finally in Legacy in Grixis Control, at least on MTGO its not more expensive than my car to buy some lands.
In the end, the fact others can play Tron, KCI, Hollow One, G-Affinity, Lantern, and anything in between and I cant play Twin? Utter garbage.
You are aware that Foil is not Modern legal right?
Very far removed from anything I've played I'm afraid.
I had another 3-1, and my loss was again to Tron. I dont know what I'm supposed to do about this deck. I loathe it, but I'm unwilling to play anything but this, for long.
At least I got a 1-2 this time, but yeah, just unbearable deck to play against. Its at least a 60-40 in their favour, am I missing something? I dont know.
If you hate losing to Tron, there is this card called Spreading Seas that you omitted from your list. And it is quite a good card in other matchups as well.
It is incorrect to play a midrange/control deck and not have a way to beat Tron reliably. If you want to beat Tron then you need 5-6 LD effects in the form of Field of Ruin/GQ + some number of Spreading Seas, Surgical Extraction, or Crucible of Worlds. Period. End of discussion.
Yeah, im not even kinda implicating you should even attempt to prepare for every single matchup. What I AM saying, is if you KNOW your meta is going to have specific decks OR you don't want to lose to specific decks, then there is absolutely NOTHING stopping a player from preparing appropriately. For example, if you are playing Blue Moon, you have no reason to complain about Tron, Valakut, or Amulet because you have a ton of tools to fight those strategies that are also useful in other matchups. If a player refuses to adapt, change a build, or change an approach, then it is their burden and doesn't mean that the aforementioned strategies are wrong, unfair, or too good.
In case someone still isn't quite getting it. If you are a black deck and you keep losing to Tron, it isn't hard to GQ, Field of Ruin a Tron land and use Surgical to cripple a dude, all while using cards that are still useful against other decks. This isn't rocket science and seems like a no brainer for a veteran modern player.
Regarding Tron, is it really that ******* hard to stuff some LD or disruption in your 75 if you are consistently disadvantaged against them? Field of Ruin, GQ, Surgical, Blood Moon, Spreading Seas, Ceremonious Rejection, just to name a few that I use.
Regarding Prison, is it really that hard to throw some basic lands, artifact/enchantment removal in your 75 to not get blown out by a Chalice, Bridge, Moon deck?
This thread is grossing me out. Adapt or get run over.
Very cool deck timtam. Original too.
Your main plan seems to be to keep your opponent off lands. Have you changed anything recently?
What are good and bad matchups?
Especially control how is that matchup?
And is it on purpose that you have 62 cards MD?
The main gameplan is to tax their lands, lots of greedy manabases here locally.
I wouldnt say there are bad matchups but there are bad hands that will cost you a game against the tougher matchups.
Control is the dream matchup. This deck has a stronger late game than any control deck i have faced.
62 cards wasnt on purpose but i do usually rock a 61 card maindeck. My bad. If i took the list to FNM tonight i would shave a Blessed Alliance.
BTW, Surgical Extraction, along with cards like Mana Tithe and the LD, makes this deck so much fun.
GB Rock ft. Lingering Souls is looking like it might be the best shell that profits from this. Sure Jund and Abzan can be good but GB has a leg up in most matchups with Field of Ruin. I wouldn't wanna be the jund/k player going against GB ft. trophy/field for example. Hell, I don't even think I would wanna be on UW right now unless I was on the Miracles/Crucible main plan.
Had some last minute shake-ups with my unified team for GP Detroit.
Mardu player bailed and we picked a Tron player, which forced my other teammate into Infect
No more Ballista
No more Cage
No more Spellskite
Can I cope? Is this gonna pooch the deck? If Prison is sub-optimal I might have to switch to Hollow One.
I’m not really sure what to expect out of this Unified meta.
You'll be fine, guy. Ballista is a 1 of, i dont think its that good. Cage and Skite are both usually 1 ofs in the board. Dont screw the pooch
I have a Modern PPTQ coming up. Debating on playing this or 8Whack. I'm a mono red kinda guy these days. Locally, no one will see the goblins coming, but I also know I have a fairly interactive local meta that doesn't have too much KCI right now.
You guys aren't thinking straight. Take a hint from Legacy Big Red right now. Maybe we add some number of Mox Amber, Trinisphere and Damping Sphere for maximum spice.
I'll see you fine men in hell <3
