This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway ...

Does the number of Fulminators played affect the number of Kolaghan's Command being played. I ask because I am trying out the Blood Moon package, and no Fulminators, so I wonder if two Commands is still necessary?

I will always play at least 1 copy, but I personally think it depends on the meta whether you want more or not. It is indeed a flexible tool that can be great in a lot of ways, but sometimes you want other cards more in your meta. Playing 2 is probably never wrong though. Just jam a few games and see if you like the card or not. You can then cut down on it if you like.

@Flying Delver: in the primer part for bant eldrazi matchups in the planeswalkers removal for other cards you suggested bringing in the very card you removed.

Thats right, thanks for letting me know, I fixed it. I guess it is not as big of a deal nowadays bc there is basically no Bant Eldrazi anymore. But still, the primer should be correct as much as possible.

I only noticed when someone mentioned they were making a Eldrazi deck for my lgs so i took a look at them.

On a side note did you try Goblin Rabble Master yet? Also why are we playing so many quick lands now?

Sorry if im asking too many questions im getting back into the deck after playing grixis control after almost 2 years.

You play more fastlands because they're amazing when the deck only plays 1-2 4 drops, and because bolt aint what it used to be so Blooming marsh is amazing.

List looks solid bar primal command

How do we fair against deaths shadow? It's a VERY interesting matchup. They have the ability, on the play, to play 2-3 hand attack/fatal pushes/snap hand attack and SHRED hour hand and leave us with no impact then kill us. We on the play have the aility to turn 2/3 blood monn GG no re. Also, if we rip a moon off the top at any time and they don't have us dead in the next 2 turns on board, then we become the favorite. Same goes for a chameleon colossus really. It comes down to each players keep. I recomed mulligaining aggresivley game 1 to either a turn 2 moon, or multiple LD threats. Don't play around stubs too much either.

Should you mull to 6 more often? Maybe. Against aggresive decks, probably. You can't afford to be a turn slow. Against midrange, control and E tron. Mediocre 7s often win. A turn 3 moon reks midrange and E tron, and tron on the play. But in unknown matchups it comes down to intuition. I was on the play the other week in an unknown and mulled away 6 lands 1 scooze. My 6 was 4 lands, arbor elf courser of Kruphix. Keep, scry land bottom. Got turn 1 thoughtsiezed. By deaths shadow. GG.

Not an awful idea if you're playing 8+ fetches

I went 3-3 at the PPTQ. The temple garden cost me several games, and the extra raw power of the white SB cards didn't make up for it. If not for the garden I go 4-2 easy.

    Matchups
Round 1 0-2 loss to Bant knightfall (AGAIN!!!) with vizier combo in it. Game 2 drew 2 RIPS but never had a fetch or sprawl and died to a knight.
Round 2 0-2 loss to red white humans. An aggro humans deck with blood moon, lightning helix and boros charm. Temple garden cost me game 2 single handedly
Round 3 2-0 win vs Grixis deaths shadow (rip helped)
Round 4 2-1 win vs Eldrazi Tron (stony helped)
Round 5 1-2 loss to deaths shadow (Temple garden somewhat cost me game 3)
Round 6 2-0 win vs Boros Burn

What can I say? I hate me some Bant company. F**k that deck.

Damn son. Can you go into more details on how the garden caused the losses?

You running Abrades at all? Feel like they would help in the bant matchup.

Wish you had played affinity though. Would have been a good judge on whether or not the white splash is truly worth it.

Overall, sounds like not to me.

Game 2 of round 1 I died with 2 Rest in peace in hand when I couldn't fetch or sprawl for white. If I had 2 relics I would have been fighting a 2/2 knight, not a 6/6

Game 2 of round 2 vs Red white I couldn't cast a goblin dark dwellers to anger his board because I had drawn my Temple garden, rather than a fetch or Foothills
Then later in the game, I didn't emblem a chandra because I had 1 uncastable card in hand (Molten rain) And it turns out the next card would have been Dark dwellers. So a chandra emblem if I had 2 red cources would have delt 15 in 2 turns and been very very lethal

Game 3 of round 5 I again didn't have double red because of temple garden. This meant I couldn't anger away a pair of young pyros and about 6 tokens n turn 5

PPTQ tomorrow. I have added a temple garden to my main, and dropped a fetch. My sideboard now has triple RIP, double stony and an eidolon of rhetoric.

White splash gets a trial by fire.

haha no. that... it's not gonna work. land d is what makes this deck. and you want to replace all of it with expensive planeswalkers?

ive found the deck to be extremely consistent. which is what has drawn me to it. ive juggled with the idea of adding white, but now for rest in peace/stony silence than anything else.

I've had exactly the same thought, but haven't had the balls to pull the trigger on it yet.

    Yo homies.

I own half this deck. Should I buy the other (expensive) half?
I am a good magic player, been playing magic for a few years, and modern for over a year. I own burn and Ponza. But I love me some Eldrazi.

    A few other questions.

Do you think you're as good or better than Eldrazi tron?
How much of a pain in the ass is a blood moon( it doesn't seem too bad for you guys, since you play dorks and scions can sac for colorless, but I hate greedy mana that punishes you)
    What is your worst matchup?

What are your meta relevant good matchups?

Are you better than Bant knightfall?

Is there a single card that reks you when you face it?

    Cheers for your time bois.

Hey guys! I just played in my first PPTQ today. I was originally going to play my Jeskai Control but decided last minute to switch to Lantern since I've been playing it a lot more recently. I went 3-3 but can honestly say that I had one of the most fun games of magic against a Grixis Death Shadow player and I'm pretty sure he could say the same.. For a deck that gets such a bad rep in tournaments for being unfair and boring, we had half the place huddled around the table..

The score was 10 (Me) - 2 (Him) with a Liliana on his side of the board and a Tasigur and Gurmag Angler on his side and a Ensnaring Bridge/2 mill rocks/ and a few lands on my side. He ultimated Liliana keeping her at 1 loyalty and separated the piles so I would only get ensnaring bridge so I sacrificed it, took 9 damage bringing me to one. Then top decked another ensuring bridge and was able to regain the lock and mill him for the last 10 cards in his deck.

Overall, the win/loss ratio wasn't anything spectacular but when this deck works it feels amazing!

That's what happens when you're the last players playing, and that's what happens when you play lantern.

    Glad you had fun though.

It seems that Inferno Titan could've really helped in the Bant Knightfall matchup clearing all those mana dorks and smaller ceatures.

Hahaha perhaps. Stormbae is very good there, dark dwellers bolting an avacyns pilgrim to take him off white was also handy. Inferno titan would certainly have been good, but it's not every day you play against double humans.

I guess the next step is to find a creature that is both protection from black AND red. But it's just a 2/2, sadly.
Oversoul of Dusk has protection from Blue, Black, and Red. It costs 5 green though...

    That's hot tho

My record going into the pptq was 12-3. I had won the local modern night 3 out of the last 4 weeks. I was pumped and primed. 30 players.

    Match 1 vs Bant knightfall.

I lose the die roll 11-10, then get steamrolled by an angry bunch of mana dorks, Thalias and Thalia's lieutenants. I started the game with a bonefire in hand, but never saw a mana dork, and when I drew my 2nd bonefire it was T2. GG

Game 2 and I was in a stable situation. He passes to me on turn 4 with 4 mana up, I smell coco. I had GDD lightning bolt and anger of the gods in hand, 3 mana on board. He has a thalias lt and a noble heirarch with 1 counter. I bolt the heirarch, he casts coco in response. I sit, silently hoping he hits sweet FA or maybe a spell queller or something. He hits DOUBLE thalias lt. GG.

    Match 2 vs Eldrazi tron.

Everything about my opponent was tilting. An obese salty person, who played lands in front of spells. It was my pleasure to turn them into mountains game 1, and then finish her off with a Stormbreath dragon

Game 2 was less good. Mulled to 6, and was a turn behind the game all game. She landed reshaper and TKS before I mooned, and when I played the stormbreath she had the all is dust

Game 3. FINALLY!!! A good hand with dorks and LD, no threats. But I rated it 7.5/10 (x2 land, x3 LD, sprawl, bonefire.

Turn 2 I blow up her 1 land. Turn 3 I blow up her 1 land, turn 4 I blow up her 1 land, turn 5 I moon her (still no threats) and she never misses a land drop as she casts rachet bomb, smasher smasher. GG. 9 lands. FML

Match 3 vs Bant knightfall. Again

Game 1 was super close. I got my opponent to 4 with chandra and bonefires, but he's turned the corner and is coming back hard. He paths a mana dork and I fetch. There was a stormbreath on top of my library because ******* of course there was. He wins the game on 1 life.

Game 2, turn 4 stormbreath. GG

Game 3. He starts agressivley, but is running out of gas, I stabilize with a stormbreath and pass. On 11 life. He has4 creatues (3 of them white) with 6 power between them. He casts a pre combat coco. Hits double thalias LT. Kills me.

At this point I obviously can't top 8 and would rather commit suicide than play another game of magic today. I drop.

Can't win em all I guess. I had a lvl 1 judge who is a buddy of mine watch all my games. he told me I made no strict misplays ( I think I agree)and no obviously wrong keep/mull decisions. Sometimes modern just beats you.
