I don't think we're supposed to post about it, though there is a method in the PC community for hacking decks and changing their contents. No clue what is being done about it since I'm not following it whatsoever; but I have seen where it came from, and the guy who started it showed a screenshot with his 40-card deck full of Door to Nothingness...

I've never understood why Magic doesn't act like almost every other collectible in the world.

Comic books get reprinted all the time. Baseball/basketball cards get reprinted. Books get reprinted. Even guitars, or cars or almost anything people collect get reissued.

Actually that isn't completely true. While I know nothing about comic books and basketball cards, baseball cards do have rules about reprints and sets having a certain concentration of reprinted cards in them. Topps has to deal with it every year.

I would say that this thread needs to stay open, so long as the FTV:Legends thread stays open (because the two discussions are connected)....

    ...

Or maybe we should combine them?

So you love the powerhungry department store known as Walmart? The one that marks things up to ridiculous levels? Target as well. Their stock is bought from 3rd world countries for literally pennies per copy if not less than one penny and sold for $1 or more here. And Walmart also kills local businesses by buying in such huge bulk they can do mark downs until the store across the street can't compete because they can't get low prices like walmart due to not being able to buy such large bulk of a single item at a very very low cost. And lo and behold, the store across the street from Walmart is out of business in a few years.

Also, where will people play if not hobby shops? Only at the kitchen table? I'm sorry, but that's stupid. Walmart doesn't run PTQs and FNM. That belongs to the premier stores/LGS's. How many tournaments would there be if there were no LGS's? Close to none. There would be the Pro Tour circuit, Grand Prix's, and Worlds and stuff. Maybe some college kids would throw a tournament oh wait wizards wrecked that one great job. Magic is nothing if there aren't any LGS's around.

Also, local card shops aren't greedy. They're generally trying to make a profit, just like every other business out there except nonprofit businesses. Marking things up helps this cause; I bought DD:EvT for $35 and I didn't really care because the box set itself is quite valuable with the cards included. It was the best duel deck ever released IMO.

Wal-Mart is the mecca of retail chains because it is a massive, acre-sized convenience store. Part of the reason why it is so successful is because it is so cheap, and part of why it is so cheap is because a lot of the stuff is imported so extremely, as you pointed out. And it does kill other stores, as you pointed out. But the fault is not with the company: it is with the people who help it kill the other stores - the people who shop there and pledge support for Wal-Mart with their wallets. Don't hate the store - hate the people that cause it to flourish.

But going further beyond that, it also drives down job competition because so much is imported, so the people who shop there are essentially killing the jobs that Wal-Mart brings to termination, the domestic factories that close because it is so much cheaper to open them overseas.

Does anyone else hate this faction bull****? Stringing us along isn't fun. It doesn't cause peaceful discussion. Everyone will probably be disappointed regardless of the decision because, well, Wizards LOVES to do that to us.

They shouldn't give us this information until we start seeing bigger numbers of previews.

Of the hundreds of thousands who play this game, how many members do we have here at salvation? You have to remember that a majority of Magic players probably don't look so closely into the game, at least not as much as we do. They go to FMNs, they might check out a spoiler if they hear something, but they probably don't come on to unaffiliated forums and talk about the game in this much detail. For them, the whole battle thing is not yet determined and every match they play means something.

    You're fear-mongering. Knock it off.

There has never been a From The Vaults, Premium Deck Series, Duel Deck, or any other release ever printed in the history of Magic that resulted in Brick and Mortar retailers raiding Big Box retailers for ALL of their product JUST to keep certain singles within the secondary market. Never has happened, never will happen.

The MSRP will be honored. And it's probably going to be at about 40 bucks or so per deck considering the scope and size. If you honestly think that a Brick and Mortar retailer is going to go throughout your entire town, snatch up thousands of dollars worth of EDH decks from every retailer from Wal-Mart, to Target, to K-Mart to everything in between, then you're delusional.

Even IF that were to happen, there would still be hundreds of EDH Pre-Cons available online at MSRP price. It's always worked this way. Guys like yourself have ALWAYS screamed bloody murder that there won't be enough stock, and there ALWAYS is enough stock. So much so that any Brick and Mortar retailers who do jack up their prices end up finding the duel decks sitting on their shelves for months after everyone's already got their copies. Hence what happened with Elspeth Vs. Tezzeret.

In my area, all Wal-mart and Target locations got cleaned out of Elspeth vs Tezzeret and the M10 precon with Honor of the Pure, which were both sold at an elevated price at brick and mortars. Honestly, though, I doubt the brick and mortar stores had anything to do with it. I would be more inclined to believe that somebody else bought them to sell the cards as singles, or the decks themselves, online for a few bucks more, possibly even somebody who doesn't even know anything about Magic but heard that a quick dollar could be made on the boxes. This doesn't only happen with Magic cards. I'm an avid baseball card collector as well, and packs/boxes of 2006 and 2007 Topps (series one in both cases) were wiped out because of a few chase cards... in 2006, it was a rookie card that was supposed to be cut from the set but made it into packs anyway and in 2007, a Derek Jeter card with Mickey Mantle and George W. Bush photoshopped into the background.

They do- thats why it bothers to use counters.

I don't know, i'm not sold on this yet. The way the ability is worded makes it sound like a state-based effect, where the counters only have that ability while he is there. I'm only thinking this because of how they created emblems specifically for the purpose of continuous effects that survive the death of their creator. I could see rules judges going the other way, saying that the counters have no effect if this guy leaves play.

hurray for artificial price inflation through low supply! Honestly the MSRP they put on these is a joke. Gonna be 100 plus easily

The store I shop at in New Hampshire seems to be pulling something this time around that has me a bit upset. I reserved one the day after it was announced because I collect foils, and I called last week to make sure my name was still on one. It is, but they haven't set a price yet because they don't know how many we're getting. Sounds like they'll sell it inflated from the beginning.

This is a store that has kind of slid in terms of quality of support for Magic events as of late. I stopped going to FNMs about four months ago when money wasn't as abundant as it used to be, but at that time they would run FNM without judges. If we had a rules question, we'd have to ask other players and hope somebody had an answer.

So what do you guys think the future of this mechanic is? Do you see it in other blocks as well as Zendikar (like Equipment) or will it disappear until the next Time Spiral-esque block they do (one using old abilities)?

I'm not sure what Unhinged card you're talking about...

The linker is messing up. Copy and paste this into your browser:

    gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?output=spoiler&method=visual&action=advanced&set=[%22Unhinged%22]

That's the full Unhinged visual spoiler. If the card exists, you will find it there. I looked really briefly for you, but I found no card with both donkeys and goblins in the art.

I'm pretty new to Magic, and I was wondering why the new fetchlands are going over $10.00 a piece. Aren't they the same as Terramorphic Expanse? Please enlighten me.

I'm not too hip on tournament play, but I do know that there is a huge value to the card coming into play untapped. Terramorphic Expanse requires that the card comes into play tapped, whereas the enemy fetch guarantees an untapped land of either color for the simple cost of a life and a shuffle. In formats like Extended and Vintage, having that mana flexibility on turn one can make a significant difference in the game.

Boxes for $120 (and then $30 credit added to your in-store account, which makes it $90 in the end). This has always been the case for booster boxes - even back in Lorwyn and earlier.

    Packs go for $4 even.

Another store I found recently sells packs for $3.75, and three for $10.

Fetches were trading for $15. I did the math and decided to just suck it up (as you all so thoroughly advised :)), pay for the event in full and pinch pennies for the rest of the week.

Then I got a third Verdant Catacombs and a second Nissa Revane in the 2hg, along with a foiled Rite of Replication for my Ally deck.

My general feeling is that I hate to sell cards. Once it is converted to cold, hard cash, it can disappear pretty fast and suddenly you at least feel like you just gave them away.

Ditto. If I did this, this would be the first time I've ever sold ANY cards to a store after two years of attending events.

Tragically, the two expenses I'm facing is my stepfather's birthday and 2HG. I can afford them both, but I am left with $30 for the week after. I'm wondering the odds of getting the fetches back in the box, and if those odds are worth trading in seven for a new box or just three for the free 2HG.

So, I'm facing an interesting dilemma.

I purchased a booster box of Zendikar at my local B&M for $120 on Friday (they sell all booster boxes for $120, and then put $30 in credit on your account for future events... so if you draft, the box really only costs you $90) and cracked six fetch lands out of it (the only one I didn't get is Misty Rainforest). Including this, a seventh fetch I received at the prerelease, Sorin Markov and Nissa Revane (both of which came from that same booster box), I can trade-in and get a second booster box for free.

The incentive here is that I am short on cash and will be doing a two-headed giant with my girlfriend tomorrow. Having the $30 in entry will make our 2HG $20 and give me another stab at collecting all of the cards.

Alternatively, I could trade in only my three duplicate fetches, get $45 in credit and pay $5 for the entire 2HG (I would not be getting the contents of all the packs, since my girlfriend paid for the last 2HG we did when M10 came out). The incentive here is that I am working on collecting the entire set, and with four of the fetches in hand, the only money cards I'm missing are Misty Rainforest and Lotus Cobra.

So, which do I do: do I trade in my extra fetches and basically pay for free or do I turn in all seven fetches I have, plus two mythics, to get a booster box, maybe get some of them back and pay $20 for the 2HG?

[ps] - not a box brag. This thread is about the trade-in of what I got.
