I like this format, but I win a lot playing variations of Steam Vents decks such as Grixis Control, Twin variants or Scapeshift.

It's rare for me to tutor for Careful Consideration and I usually cast it mainphase instead of using it as a 4 mana brainstorm. I haven't really wished it was Concentrate/Harmonize, as I am happy to dig 4 cards and/or go up only +1 CA instead of +2 from Concentrate.

Sometimes Damnation gets stuck in the sense that I draw it in a match up where I don't want a removal spell. Otherwise, I have not encountered many issues casting it.

Was going to sleeve up Grixis Twin for the RPTQ to combat the supposed rise of Amulet Bloom. Very few people showed up with Amulet Bloom and a buddy of mine convinced me to audible to UGRb Scapeshift. 4 Bring to Light and 3 Scapeshifts in the maindeck.

I of course, top 4'ed the RPTQ and a buddy of mine top 8'ed another RPTQ with a very similar list.

Still think Amulet Bloom is the best deck in the format, but I'll keep playing Scapeshift if people don't catch on before the next bans.

States is not a very high level event, so i tried out ideas that occurred to me after i had a beer or few.
I never cast mentor in the 7 swiss rounds or top 8, so I do not know if it is good.

  • posted a message on How often do you play and what deck do you play?
I play Modern FNM once every few weeks, play MODO when there is a pptq or somewhat large Modern tournament is coming up.

I usually play UR/x variants in both paper and online; twin variants, scapeshift and grixis control. Once in while I'll register Abzan midrange online or sleeve it up for a premier IQ if i think it's a good day for tarmogoyf and lingering souls.

These rptq promos are nice and all, but the liliana of the veil promo did not affect the price of lotv at all.
WoTC needs to reprint these near $100 staples in much more frequent print runs

I won SCG modern states in new jersey.
Played 3 bring to lights in my maindeck with hallowed fountain and plains as my splashes.

The white singletons were not very impressive, today and neither were the black ones from previous testing.
I have an RPTQ to play 2 weeks from now, so gonna keep testing the two splashes.
Fwi, my most frequent targets for Bring to light were Scapeshift, Kodama's Reach, and Wrath to god in the maindeck. Most frequent sb targets were Crumble to Dust and Glen Elendra archmage

  • posted a message on Promo Rishadan Port spotted
As already said, it was confirmed several months ago along with other 2015 judge promos from MTGO picture files.

That being said, the rumor is that someone (maybe tournament organizer) "accidentally" got one in a Thalia WMCQ promo package.

As others have already said, traditional very reactive control got killed by power creep in almost every non-rotating format. The last "traditional" control deck, Miracles, only gets by because it has counterbalance + sensei's diving top.
You can play traditional Ub Draw-Go, if you valur your personal fun over winning

Does anyone know the print run on these?

Will every printing of this set have a few these?

Playsets of cards for legacy and modern, sometimes multiple playsets in case I need to lend stuff out. None of my tournament staples are foils, to both save money and to avoid accidental cheating. My staples are pimped through other means, like textless promos, foreign languages or artist signatures.
I have a pimped out cube where I put my foils, but minimal amounts of foreign or textless cards to avoid confusion during drafting and playing.
My Maga EDH deck is an assorted mix of promos, foils, autographed cards, etc.
Also not rich, I just win more tournaments than an average grinder :p

I shuffle hard at times, so foils tend to warp on me. Although now that I double sleeve, it's a lot harder to warp cards from rough handling.
Nevertheless, I prefer to pimp out my decks with foreign language cards or various nonfoil promos, like textless promos.

  • posted a message on Grixis Control
The premier control/midrange decks in the format are Jund and Grixis Control. Both of these decks have creatures bigger than Batterskull and can put enough pressure where tapping out for Keranos is probably going to cost you a lot of life after combat.

I think it's time to jump off the 5+ mana alternate win condition for more creatures with quicker board impact. I'm personally going to try cutting the Keranos from my board for a Glen Elendra Archmage.

Mulldrifter is probably fine too, as you can cast it for +1 card advantage early in the game and later use it as a 5 mana: Draw 2 cards and chump block a creature.
I would also suggest Shriekmaw, but it not killing manlands or black creatures is a problem.
