Maybe I missed something these past few days -- we've concluded that the sphinx art *isn't* from a legendary creature, then?

Unless we're told that there were Sphinxes native to Ixalan all along but they were hiding in Orazca, it's reasonable to assume that the Sphinx is a planeswalker.

I like what I'm seeing for the most part. I think that if Nissa goes to a new plane, it would be a plane suited to her abilities.

Innistrad and Amonkhet are not planes she can do well on, due to the corruption present on both planes. The plane we see her on might actually be similar to Zendikar in terms of having a strong worldsoul to communicate with and copious amounts of mana that won't kill her if she tries to wield it. Another thing to note about Nissa is that "Become the hand that moves" thing that seemed to be developing while she was on Amonkhet. It could be foreshadowing for some huge development she will get later down the road (and let's be honest, she arguably has one of the most OP ability sets of any of the Gatewatch already), or it could be an un-fired Chekhov's Gun.

Is it possible that Shandalar can get a set to itself for once? I can see Nissa being there.

I've updated the original post in light of the six elder dinosaurs being confirmed recently and art for Kumena and Elenda being revealed on Ultra Pro products today.

Outside of the six dinosaurs, Elenda, and Kumena, I'm skeptical that we get any other legendary creatures, this being a small set and all. I'd love to be proven wrong, though. It's a shame that the elder dinosaurs are taking so many legendary creature slots, especially with so many other characters without cards who are actually sentient. I guess that's what Commander sets are for.

That's assuming Elenda isn't a surprise black and/or white planeswalker. Her artwork (assuming that is her artwork) looks planeswalker-y to me.

I want super cards for my Dinos, because they are reason for my comeback to Magic. Really hopes to see some small agresive dinos and fatty. Also i want some human who can pump (+1+1) dinos or even give it forestwalk.

Landwalk variants are no longer used as keywords, just in case you weren't aware.

Ah, my man Kumena. I love the pose and the setting, but why can't we see his face?

We did see his face already on Overflowing Insight, if that's any consolation.

As to why they're putting Huatli on so much art, it might have something to do with the fact that she's the only person from the Sun Empire who's actively participating in this race for Orazca, and if that three-headed Dinosaur is really the avatar of the Threefold Sun, who else but the Dino-centric planeswalker from the Sun Empire would be interacting with it in any significant way. She might also do something more important later on when The Immortal Sun comes into play.

So a thought that just came to me: You can cast only the first spell in your program, but you can activate abilities of any of the card e. g. cycling/transmute. This should help with adding some options.

I've seen someone online already attempt to brew a Calcutron deck out of suspend and cycling cards. I don't know how well that turned out for them.

My biggest take from this is that Ajani is not on the packaging like he was on those tests awhile back

And? They also didn't use Huatli like the leaked images and the Ixalana boosters don't use the art of Tishana and a different Vraska art.

Just saying. A lot of people are still hooked on that Ajani will be in rivals because of those packs. Now that they've shown the real packaging and he's not there, chances are that he's not in the set

Chances are he'll be in Dominaria, since that's where he went to gather allies against Bolas IIRC.

Bolas is probably looking for someone, maybe another planeswalker in hiding. Or maybe he's trying to find a way to break into a plane. I remember reading something back during Alara(?) when Bolas was in the Blind Eternities and came upon a plane that had these two ladies that appeared to be sisters or something. Anyway, they bar Nicol Bolas from entering the plane. I could be just imagining this because I didn't find anything on the wiki.

I think you mean The Sisters of Flesh and Spirit. They're basically the tag team of Michiko Konda and Kyodai, the spirit that was inside That Which Was Taken.

They're the guardians for Kamigawa, and are powerful enough to block planeswalkers they don't like from entering the plane.

So, what plotlines do we still have hanging?
    - New Phyrexia, but it was repeatedly said that Phyrexians are better as an invading force and they are not going anywhere without outside help.
    - Theros, when we left there was still an unresolved problem with Ashiok, and Dack went to the underworld where Elspeth is still waiting.
    - Ravnica, with the guildpact gone for so long, things are going to get ugly sooner or later. Also, Vraska.
    - Innistrad will be finding a new balance of power with Avacyn gone and Sorin stoned, but we have been there relatively recently.
    - Ob Nixilis can show up wherever just to screw with the Gatewatch.
    - Bolas and his grand shceme, of course, but we could use a break from that.
    - The whole mess around Lili, with the Raven man, the Veil and her fourth demon. We might get something in Dominaria.
    - Garruk is still out there hunting.
    - Whatever the consequences of killing two Eldrazi titans will be, if they manifest in forseeable future at all.
I am sure forgetting something, it's kinda hard to keep up with all the storylines going on, especially when it takes years to continue (which might improve under the new system). My bet is on the Theros line, Ajani is the perfect hook for the now-necessary Gatewatch involvement.

I'm not sure if it counts, but we don't know where Nahiri's gone off to, and there's no telling what she will do next.

Also, I think sets dedicated to Regatha, Vryn and Return to Theros (which is practically guaranteed at this point with the amount of foreshadowing they've been doing) are something that should be in the cards, given the direction the story has been going.

I'm also going to echo the amount of Ravnica focus that's been in the story recently, especially in Ixalan. Doubly so if the speculation about Azor being involved with Ixalan has merit. That + Return to Ravnica being ages ago + Ravnica being a popular plane means that it'd honestly be jarring if Ravnica doesn't have a return set in the near future.

    Charge Grid (R)
    Mana Cost: 5

Artifacts you control have "Remove a charge counter from this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to activate an ability of this artifact."

T: Put a charge counter on each noncreature artifact you control.

Tarkir had the benefit of being based on the Mongol Empire, which was itself very wide and incredibly diverse and stretched from East Asia through the Middle East and right up to the gates of Europe.

As for Kamigawa -- we know it's actually quite big. Though the area we saw was only a few hundred miles across at most, the novels mention other continents and other lands, particularly east of Jukai. But these are unknown and mysterious to Kamigawa's people.

The Innistrad artbook and Planeswalkers Guide, meanwhile, refer to the four "known" provinces of Innistrad, leaving room for more if the creative team ever wants to expand the plane.

Places like Fiora and Innistrad could on the exact same plane for all we know, separated only by the sea. Imagine if Planeswalkers cane to Earth: some might wind up in a plane called "America" while others wind up in a plane called "Europe." Unless they were told, little would they know they could travel from one place to the other by boat.

As far as I know, Emrakul affected the entire plane, so while the idea would be interesting in a vacuum, I doubt Innistrad and Fiora are in the same space.

Another interesting idea would be if the Roman plane Licia comes from is actually the same plane as a plane we've been to already.

I really hope we get to see Torrezon proper in a future Ixalan set. The idea of the Brazen Coalition going back to the continent and attempting to take it back from the Legion of Dusk (with maybe assistance from other factions for one reason or another) sounds appealing to me.

I like the design, but I think that the -7 is too busted. It's nearly always an instant kill and you reach it in 2 rounds after casting Nahiri, directly if you ccontrol Doubling Season or the like. I would prefer an ultimate that has either another emblem or one that keeps the emblem but "only" creates one pretty good equipment.

You probably already realize this, but the idea with the ultimate and the -3 is to represent Nahiri's abilities to remote control the swords she makes.

I changed the ultimate emblem to be an animation ability instead, but the swords in this case can only hit players and planeswalkers, so I don't know if that's appropriate or not.

    Legendary Planeswalker - Nahiri

+1: Look at the top four cards of your library. You may reveal an Equipment card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

-3: Nahiri, Sword Adept deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures and/or planeswalkers, where X is the number of Equipment you control.

-7: Create X colorless Equipment artifact tokens named Stoneforged Sword with "Equipped creature gets +2/+1" and equip 2, where X is the number of lands you control. You get an emblem with "1: Target Equipment you control becomes a 2/1 artifact creature with flying and haste that's no longer an Equipment until end of turn."

Is that Raymond Swanland art for Angrath?

    Very much looks that way!

I hope so, about as much as I hope that Angrath is a good card.

So on the lore side of things, what's the justification for making a ghost a planeswalker?

Kaya is the closest we've gotten to that thus far, and she's still alive.
