Booster boxes have 36 packs. Given they are usually around $100. Or about $2.80 per pack. Compared to a bundle with 10 packs and a typical price of about 40$, you are getting much better bang for your buck with booster boxes if you can overcome that higher barrier of entry.
Oh wow, there are replies to this. Thanks notifications. But yeah, all of my decks are complete and have sideboards. It's just that me and my long time partner like to experiment and trade for what we need when tweaking decks. I suppose that I can just leave my non deck collection at home.
I do not even know how one could build a deck at a LGS, this seems like an impossible task for me based on how long it takes me and how much physical space I need.
Our LGS has four foot square and four foot six tables (which can be easily slid together for more space), as well as each table having two shelves six inches underneath the main table surface (sorta like a keyboard thing for a computer desk) to hold stuff like food trays and deck boxes away from the main playing surface. So our tables had plenty of room. Our issue was that we didn't have enough tables because MTG, Pokemon, and star wars night are all on the same day. I'm really glad they expanded into the basement.
So while my collection is fairly small, (all of it can fit in a messenger bag)it's getting to the point where I don't want to lug it around when I go to my LGS. Sure I can take only my decks, but I like to my reserve of cards in case I like to make changes or build a new deck. So I am trying to downsize my collection. So I'm looking for tips on culling.
But to do that, I need to figure out what to axe. Creatures with no effects or are really expensive for what they do comes to mind, but after that I'm not sure where to go from there, as there are a lot of cards that would be sub-optimal for a veteran player, like Searing Spear, that are not great, but still can be useful for someone like me who does not have as big a pool of options. Or perhaps should I wait to have a large pile of junk before I go through the effort?
I usually put on some tunes I have when I do anything time consuming, though a specific track does come to mind when playing my modern poison counter deck. "The Final Battle" (Way more intimidating than the title implies)from Darkest Dungeon - given that the deck is my no nonsense deck that consistently trashes my local playgroup.
So the other week a got an Aether Revolt fat pack as a birthday gift and I quite enjoy the theme of the Magitek setting with the heavy focus on artifacts, automatons, and whatnot. I've only really got back into buying "new" stuff instead of singles for my existing decks during the Amonkhet pre-release. I'm looking forward to playing around with this new-fangled energy counter mechanic. I'm planning to set aside some cash to pick up another box in a few weeks.
Overall, my reasons for buying are out of interest of the set themes and/or just having new pieces/mechanics to play with.
Since I already have an Aether Revolt box, and basically acquired a fat packs worth of Amonkhet boosters from a sealed event and buying the Gideon and Liliana precons, the two ones I'm looking at are Kaledesh and Eldritch moon. Kaledesh is the logical choice since it's mechanics compliment my Aether Revolt cards, not to mention having some very cool artifacts as well as masterpieces. While Eldritch moon is the Flavorful choice since I'm an avid fan of Eldritch monsters and body horror tropes.
So far, I'm leaning on getting Eldritch moon before it rotates out of standard in fall because (I'm assuming) the price hikes on the bundle because they aren't mainstream anymore.
