check out the first MBS legal T2 tournament...1st place doesn't seem too fragile to me. Besides, the deck runs Island, by far the most broken card in the game to date.
- 3 CMC creature for a 2/2 is not relevant in today's standard, especially when part of the 3 mana needed is double U
- Even if you managed to stick him against an Island on the opposite site, what are the chances that your opponent has any relevent artifacts to strip from their library? There are Wurmcoils, Ratchet Bombs and equipments (Collar & Sword) to pull out, but some of those are played out of the SB. At this point, there isn't enough Artifact running around to make this ability worth it.
Id like to politelty disagree with both of these. 3 for a 2/2 with evasion isnt all that obscure...although there are very broken cards in the format.
there are PLENTY of relevant artifacts...not staples, but utility mainly like you mentioned. The chances of new, rogue decks running high power artifacts is also much greater now...especially with infect and non-polymorph decks gaining a bit of popularity.
I could see 1-2 of these SB in UW control...especially since you should already be playing spreading seas, which negates the drawback of only having "islandwalk".
Dont get me wrong, this wont break the format...it is just too soon to rule him out as at least a SB card for a few popular decks.
oddly enough, my WWQuest got killed by silence....taking an entire turn away from quest HURTS.
obviously not enough on its own, but not being able to ramp 3-4 counters on quest turn two kinda really hurts...and that extra turn buys you enough time to get mana for a permanent solution.
welcome to MTGS. there are lots of decks you can build for relatively cheap. im in the same boat actually....just came back a month or so ago. check into the liquimetal build floating around. not many expensive cards for it yet, and a ton of angles to go.
so far in testing has been 2-0...killed quest & ramp pretty quickly...mimic vault is the real star...purposely killing your own creatures to put them on mimic vault is a really handy tool.
added what looks to be a stable mana base....havnt had a problem yet.
built SB....pretty bad one at that though.
so far, the deck has proved underwhelming....even though it's 3-1 record is behind it. Only loss was due to a lack of creature removal being drawn either game, and not enough LD early on.
any suggestions on how to streamline the mana base, better creatures, or more effective removal is greatly appreciated.
I've been trying to build a WW deck (including quest / mystic package) with a heavy equipment toolbox. my build started at 3x Adventuring Gears. After playing with it, I'm not happy with it. Are there any reasonable replacements for it in standard?
Havnt played Magic since Shards...wanted to get back in with something mildly competitive, yet tough enough to play to re-sharpen the skills. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
