So as a bit of background, my friends and I have regular boardgame nights and Magic often comes up as an option.
But my friends vary greatly in skill level and experience so it's often not a great experience for them.

The problem being that every time we go to play no one has any fun because our decks vary from netdeck standard decks, hastily made casual play decks from a decade ago, Off the shelf MTG pre-gen decks, to decks made for Urza Block meta, etc. So one player will always have a huge advantage over the others.

Years ago a friend of ours bought the reprinted world championship decks, back when Wizards was still selling them, and playing casual games with just those decks was good fun. I'd like to re-create that kind of experience with my friends, with everyone playing with the supplied well made decks with everyone on a relatively level playing field.

With that in mind I'm trying to put together a box with 5 decks. The idea being that these decks will easy enough to pick up and play for inexperienced players, but having enough nuance to keep more experienced players entertained. But more importantly having them relatively balanced against each other in their own meta, so that regardless of which two you pick one deck won't have a huge advantage over another.

We're all casual players so no one will complain if the decks aren't perfectly tuned tournament winning machines.

So basically I'm looking for deck ideas following a few rules:

    - 60 cards, no side boards
    - Balanced against each other
    - No restriction to specific blocks or format, don't have to be tournament legal.
    - mono color or 2 color ideally
    - between the 5 decks all 5 colors should be represented
    - Casual play, no need for them to be perfectly tuned and efficient
    - But built with mana curve, and efficiency in mind while avoiding having to get tons of fetch lands etc.
    - Decks should be simple enough to pick up and play for inexperienced players
    - No combo decks, no overly complicated mechanics or card interactions
    - Keep costs down

I like the idea of using former world champion decks as a starting point, even if they have to be neutered a tad to meet the above conditions.

My immediate thought was something like UG Madness (Showing you how long it's been since I played Magic regularly) because that deck is straight forward to play, has some mechanics that an experienced player can take advantage of, and it's made mostly of commons and uncommons that are super easy and cheap to get.

Have an order of operations question

    Kiln Fiend vs Wild Slash

When cast Wild Slash will trigger Kiln Fiends ability and giving it +3/+0

But does Wild Slash check for a creature of power 4 or more when cast? when it resolves?

In other words would Wild Slash do 2 damage or 4 in this case?
