The End of an Era
  • posted a message on Well, how was YOUR box? (MM17 Edition)
My first box I split with my buddy and the only notable pull from it was Liliana (which yes nothing to complain about)

Second Box had me a bit scared as I was going besides an Arid Mesa, Goblin Guide, Damnation and Blood Moon but then another Liliana so a bit of a relief (see attached image)

Third Box, Wow I have never had such fantastic luck with a single box the pulls from it were like a top pick list. In order of pull Scalding Tarn, Cavern of Souls, Scavenging Ooze(foil), Death's Shadow, Verdant Catacombs, Tarmogoyf, Liliana of the Veil, Blood Moon, Goblin Guide, Path of Exile and Arid Mesa. (There was also a Cyclonic Rift and Venser but not quite as hot). I could not believe my eyes when I opened Tarmogyf then Liliana within a couple packs of each other. (see attached image)

I have one box left to open, think I might film it in case something crazy happens (maybe another Liliana which would be a full playset in 3.5 boxes lol)

Thought I would put up an introduction so that others could know a bit more about myself and where I am coming from. I started playing Magic back in late 1997 when a friend of mine brought some cards to school and I was immediately drawn in by the art and different from any other game I had encountered played. I was very quickly down at my local card store and bought my first Magic product an Ice Age Starter Deck which I pulled a Jesters Cap from and thought it was such a bomb card. Never became really what you would call competitive at that younger age it was mostly I would play with friends after school and just played simple decks that I still actually have together. I continued with the game semi regular till the end of the Urza sets (I was still a bit younger and did not really understand just how powerful the cards were in those sets so never got large numbers of packs then lol). After that point I transitioned to my new interest playing the new Pokémon card game as many kids my age were in high school and lost touch with MTG.

In 2014 I found myself with some extra free time during the summer so I actually got back into playing Standard for a few months, it was the first time I had the disposable income that I could actually put together a competitive deck. This was when Journey into Nyx had just released and I stuck around till just after M15 had came out. At that point I was finding myself busier with work and other things like a family wedding to help plan.

Recently I have returned to the game and ideally would not like to drift away as I have in the past, I have been spending some time at FNM getting familiar with the rule changes since I last played and what the current meta is like. Over the last month and a half I have been enjoying playing Standard but found that I am interested by Modern and have been starting to look at more info about the format. Put together a GB Counters deck and also a version of Mardu Vehicles which does perform well just have some tweaking to do. Also with the release of MM17 I got myself a case and have so far had luck with value with one box left to open(always a gamble). Hope that I can learn from the forum here and can share some of what I have experienced as a player of the game who has been around it for the better part of 20 years on and off.
