Extra combats/strikes add more instances of cascade...ugh nasty.
I really like the new mana rock in 4c builds. Snuff Out is a free cascade, with the expertise spells, makes a huge turn. 3 cascades, 5 spells for 1 cost.
I use alot of 1 cmc spells for getting out the lotus/ancestral because that is freakin nuts.
Use
Thanks for your answer! It is nasty, or at least I want it to be. Well, I didn't knw about this new mana rock. It seems interesting, but a bit slow. I will look deeper into it! As for the 1 CMC spells, I kinda dislike them, as giving a Temporal Trespass cascade just to hit a Lightning Bolt on a multiplayer game seems not so good. As for the Snuff Out, I loved it! Will try it right away!
I myself prefer more cascade oriented Yidris builds to the storm combo ones. My deck is slightly different than yours as I skipped double strike and extra combats. I love the extra turns and the 'free stuff' theme though, and I went with some of those cards. The expertise cycle is an excellent add and I might have to copy you on that one when I rebuild my deck. I have some random thoughts:
1.) Ancestral Vision is an excellent payoff for 1 mana spells. Its slightly expensive though.
2.) You have a couple Farseek effects which I like alot, some signets or talismas can increase the odds of turn 3 Yidris.
3.) Bow of Nylea is cool for trample death touch tricks and it can put 0 cmc cascade cards on the bottom of your deck for sweet recursion.
Thanks for your answer! I agree that the cascade strategy is better on a storm deck, but I don't really know how to build one of those, and a voltron seems more fun and casual! That being said:
1. I do agree it is expensive! But it is worth saving a bit for one, since I only play EDH! ^^
2. Yeah, it was on my list of future modifications. The signets/talismans seems amazing, and with Paradox Engine they are just too strong to ignore. But what about things like Chrome Mox und Diamong Mox? Or even Grim Monolith. I do have some of those.
3. That's a very good idea. The main struggle of this deck is the fuel, since the time magics and extra combat turn will eventually end. I'll put it on my test list ASAP!
So, I've been crazy to brew something with one of the 4-colored commanders, and this guy is my jam:
Do the roar.
However, the lists that I found on him where mostly Storm Builds, which are indeed very strong. But I wanted something different. I wanted to explore the cascade gain as much as I could, and so I figured: Why not a voltron deck, where I do not hit hard, but hit over and over again on a single turn (or turns, as it turned out). So I turned my head to Double Strike, Extra Combat Turns and, obviously, Time Magic. And this is what I came up with:
The main idea is to hit with Yidris ASAP, and get out support/goodstuff magic to cascade into extra combat turns and/or extra turns, hitting again and so on. I did test it some times, and while a big table (6 players +) makes it harder to win, a common 4-player game is just fine. The results where quite absurd when it did go off, but also a bit inconsistent. So,I would love some help from you guys to make this Ogre a even bigger, meaner and chaotic monster!
My personal favorite commander for an artifact deck is Glissa, the Traitor. Recursion can be super powerful, and there are some great combos she enables. I've killed people by flinging infinite squirrels at them (via Acorn Catapult), by smashing them with each other's decks (Mindslaver), and by overrunning them with artifact creatures.
That being said, of the ones you listed, my favorite is Sydri, Galvanic Genius. I ran her in Tiny Leaders, and her ability to combo with Caltrops is awesome. She also opens you up to the Esper colors, and you could always run Muzzio in the 99.
Thanks for the suggestions! Glissa doesn't really suits my tastes, as Golgari is my second most hated color combination (second only to Rakdos. Yuck). Sydri is awesome, but the idea os a full artifact deck is just too tasty to ignore. ^^
Karn, Silver Golem. Is he the best? **** no. But when you build a deck for Sydri or Muzzio, you just take a dozen or two artifacts and fill the rest with disgusting colored spells. When you look down at your hand and see nothing but brown and silver, you know you're playing an artifact deck. You're playing Karn.
Bro, my heart just skipped a beat with these lines. Seriously, you won me over just like that!
Hello, guys! So, I am in love with artifacts since good old Mirrodin block (yeah, that one with the Kaldra set and stuff. Yeah, kinda old, I know)and got on the EDH zone on the last six months with a Krenko deck, with has now turned into my loved Purphoros deck. That being said, I really want to build a second deck, and since I love artifacts (mainly the stupid/funny ones like planar bridge, paradox engine, etc)I decided to build a combo oriented artifact deck. However, I can't decide on the best commander! I would love to see some suggestions from you guys! Now, I am tending to choose from the three on the title, but I am open to suggestions! ;). Thanks!
I think I'd like another board sweeper or 2 more than you've got. You've got plenty of indestructibility effects, so Austere Command or Wrath of God or something.
Hello! Well, I agree these lands should just go, but I am currently trying to make this deck on a budget. The more expensive lands, like Cavern of Souls, are already in my possession, so no problem to include some of them! And yes, Song works better with those, so I chose it over Banishing.
However, I do agree about the board swipers and the Yavimaya Hollow! Looking to add them ASAP! Thanks!
Well now that you've pointed out a win-con, stay the course! Karn, Silver Golem to make Sol Ring a creature and Rite of Replication it. You know extra mana is never a bad thing
Yeah as far as actually killing with commander damage, I agree you'd probably need Empyrial Plate at least to get the "voltron" hits in.
Yeah, I forgot to put the Empyrial Plate! The Karn + Rite of Replication looks funny, but I believe I have enough ways to clone the Sol Ring, and since I play at a 7-man table, Thada will have plenty to steal. What's been bugging me is the Winter Orb + Back to Basics. You see, my table just got past a heavy stax Gaddock Teeg deck, and since we are 7 people the games just got slow and boring. Teeg is gone, but the hatred aganist stax remains. So I'm thinking about taking those out.
Also, Mox Opal on a deck like that is viable? Always loved the card, but never got a deck with enough artefacts to properly use it.
37 lands is too many for this type of deck. Especially as Thada can help you fix your mana anyway.
I personally would get this down to 33 lands.
Acquire seems a bit redundant to me. I'd run Bribery instead, as you get to look through libraries before hand to get an idea of what you can get.
I feel like this deck needs a little bit more draw. I'd replace Stolen Identity with some type of draw card, like Recurring Insight or Consecrated Sphinx at six mana slot.
Your disruption count is pretty low, and you could easily get blown out by a Austere Command or Vandalblast. Negate and Stubborn Denial are your cheapest CMC for this. The Stubborn Denial should be turned on by a buffed Thada.
Vanishing is a surprising trump card for this type of deck as it also phases out equipment attached to Thada. So this is another way of avoiding mass artifact removal. But you need to be aware of the protection from blue swords when playing this.
I wonder if Blighted Agent, is just a good addition to give you an alternative route for your equipment?
I actually agree with almost all of it. However, the perspective of winning by using something like Stolen Identity + Mechanized Production + Thada for the Sol Rings just makes me giggle. However, maybe I can win without it. Thanks!!
I would suggest you add Champion's Helm, Argentum Armor, Empyrial Plate, and Armory Automation (for a back up if Thada eats too much removal). I would also suggest removing Sword of Body and Mind this is mostly a meta call, but from personal experience giving graveyard/reanimator strategies an extra 10 cards per hit is not a good thing.
Also adding some stax cards like Winter Orb or Back to Basics to slow everybody down (And if you have Sword of Feast and Famine it won't even hurt you). I would also add a late game bomb like Blightsteel Colossus to close out the game quickly with the added bonus of synergy with Master Transmuter. And lastly I would consider some extra turn spells for the extra beats.
My meta doesn't really runs any reanimation. But I do like the stax idea, just to stall things out. And that Blightsteel is just tempting! Thanks too!
Hey, guys! So, my idea is to use Thada as an unusual voltron general where I steal artifact ramp/equipment/combo pieces from my enemies and use them to pump my Thada to hit them even harder! I understand she in not by any means a strong voltron general, but I figure my meta needs something different and fun to deal with, since we are stuck on tier 1~2 decks. I would appreciate some help!
