  • posted a message on What is the best way to digitally catalog a 20k+ collection?
Thanks for the reply. I checked out MTG Album lsat night and it does look good. It even has some cards that are not on the Gatherer for some reason (like the promo schemes from the first Archenemy). It does seem really easy to add cards to a collection. I can sort the card screen the same way I have my collection sorted, so it would take a bit less time to do it manually.

I'm going to try it on some of my decks at least and see how long it takes. Thanks for the tip.

Edit: Reddit pointed me to a great app called Delver Lens that very quickly scans cards and can export the list to other software suites. Seems to work pretty well.

In my experience with similar-sized collections, it's best to just get a bunch of friends together and sort it out.

Eh, I'm not sure I want to bug my friends about something like this. My gf was interested in helping, but I don't want to bug her either if I end up finding an easier way.

The best one so far as been Magic Album. It is fast (or, as fast as it can be to manually enter a bunch of cards). Just type in the card name and press F5 for a regular and F6 for Foil. I found it easiest to have the cards alphabetized beforehand, but it isn't really necessary. I know it seems like a lot, but I just did mine over the course of a couple days working a few hours at a time while watching YouTube videos or online TV shows and it went by pretty quickly. I also use it to create my decks as it is easy to keep track of the cards I have. It also has an option to print out card images you don't have so you can playtest your decks before obtaining the real cards.

I'll check out Magic Album. I was really hoping there was an easy to use scanner out there that would identify it, though I didn't expect to find one. Does it allow for exports and such in case I end up with a different system for searching? I do want something for building decks and current the MTG Familiar app was the best search I've seen...although still not perfect. I've been tempted to create my own search TBH.

I've been trying to look into ways that I can catalog my Magic collection digitally to help with creating casual decks. I obviously don't want to manually catalog over 20,000 cards, but I don't see any way to do is automatically.

I tried the free demo of the Decked app, but the scanning feature is a pay feature. The search is also very poor, so I wasn't inclined to pay for something in case it works. I've found similar threads in other places (like reddit) but I haven't seen a conclusive way to do so. Has anyone with a similar sized collection manage to find a way to quickly scan a lot of cards?

Dominaria remains the "center of the multiverse" and pretty important on a certain
    scale.

In regards to Ravnica becoming a refugee plane for the people of Zendikar, I can
see that. I mean, Ravnica is no longer cut off from the rest of the multiverse, so it
    is not out-of-the-question.

    - Gideon finally finds a representative of the Consortium on Ravnica
    - Gideon explains what the crap is happening on Zendikar
    - Enter the first expansion of RtR
    - Jace gets wind of this and joins up with Niv to construct a transportation device
and they begin trafficking Zendikar's survivors to Ravnica
    - Enter Gatecrash
    - The Eldrazi follow the vessel's "mana trail" (that thing all walkers leave behind
during planar travel), which leads them to Ravnica

Colorless vs Multicolor could be an interesting actually, though it would be extremely hard to do.

Given the state of adapted movies, I'd imagine it would end like this:

Jace, a high school freshman realizes he can teleport anywhere in the world, now with the help of Chandra (a feisty senior in the school), Vess (the bad girl), Garruk (the quarterback) and Ajani (a house cat). Together these "planeswalkers" have to travel to the five corners of the world to collect the five mana crystals before the eclipse. But Jacob Bolas (A powerful banker with planeswalking abilities and an eye for world domination) wants the five crystals so he can rule the world.

This summer get ready for the action packed excitment that is MAGIC THE GATHERING: EVOLUTION.

    P.s. Karn is a supercomputer.

Ugh... a movie like this seems more likely than one based on some of the better storylines from the game's history. Even something that we know about now but isn't very detailed would be nice; the Elder Dragon Wars could make a good story if it is done correctly. Or maybe something like how the Eldrazi were first imprisoned.

It changes the order the damage is assigned, which would only really matter for cases when there are creatures with wither and infect.

Does anyone know what happened to crystal keep? I occasionally check out the site to see if anything was posted on it, as I used to find it very useful. Suddenly the site stopped updated and I never knew why. Does anyone know?

Yes it is shut down. The oracle text on Intuition has it target the opponent. If you have shroud or hexproof (or is otherwise untargetable), and are playing a duel, Intuition does not have a legal target.

The Welder's effect is not a copy ability, so copy affects don't interact with it the way a Puca copying a Propagator would.

I'm probably going to build this deck, and I never build netdecks, just for the fun of whipping someone with Kamigawa spirits. I have most of the cards too, but I'll likely only need a couple of the rares. Good job on the deck and the article.

If this happens I very likely won't be buying packs anymore. I've seen places selling them for $5 already and I don't touch them. I have enough cards that I can hold myself over for a long time.

  • posted a message on Undying, regeneration for big guys.
As was said, it is similar to regeneration. What might make it worthwhile is if it was on creatures with EtB triggers. Otherwise regeneration is just better since you don't lose attachments. Alternatively, you could make it a targeted ability (target creature is undying until end of turn), but you'd need to balance it a bit (maybe only one activation per turn).

  • posted a message on Some Realistic Sliver Cards
The black muscle sliver is a bit cheap. Black doesn't normally get really efficient small creatures. The hexproof sliver is really strong. You'd need to at least tack another mana to it. Might be more balanced by making it 2CD and increasing it's power and toughness by one.

I really like your land. However, I almost seems too good. Playtesting would tell you for sure though.

Sliver Swarm doesn't feel like a Sliver to me. It is not a bad card but doesn't affect other slivers. Sliver Warchief is similar. The mechanics are actually really good & well costed, but Slivers don't really have chiefs aside from whatever is acting as the Queen. Maybe if the flavor of the card indicated the hive is developing sub-drones or such similar to how the Sliver Legion was being developed it would fit.

Edit: For those asking where the art came from, I recognize some of it from non-sliver cards (and a few from sliver cards as well). Good choices for art.

What's wrong with the Epic mechanic? It was a pretty creative way to make a legendary sorcery, and it only showed on on 5 cards.

The fact that it takes control away from the player & locks them into one tactic.

  • posted a message on No More Tribal Type Cards
I won't bemoan the death of Tribal as I never really liked what it represented flavor-wise. It was supposed to represent <insert creature-type> magic, but that is not mechanically how it turned out. Instead of Boggart Shenanigans being Goblin-magic, mechanically it was a Goblin that hung around but wasn't targetable by creature-specific magic.

I totally get what its use gained in terms of design space and synergy; I don't so much mind that. It just didn't seem like the flavor matched the mechanics at all here. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact you can pull out Bound in Silence with a Rebel, but if someone asked me to make a mechanic for tribal magic I don't think I would have chosen the Tribal type.
