I've been playing Naya burn online and have been getting slammed for the past week. I'm honestly considering switching to mardu burn to see if I can get an upper hand with bump in the night and Rakdos Charm. Have also been considering Boros burn or adding 4needle drop to a boros build or mardu build to see if it helps
Mind sharing how exactly are you getting slammed? Is it because you needed a few more draw steps to close the game but died early due to the mana base? Or because you're not able to swing in enough damage with your creatures and utilize Atarka?
Honestly both, I keep getting ghost quartered and the only time the creatures have helped me out is on a T1 GG or Swiftsper, I've been matched up against mainly eldrazi tron, death shadow, and affinity, but the majority of my losses are against eldrazi tron. Maybe switch out AC for skullcrack at the very least
Has anyone extensively tested Naya Burn (w/ Atarka but no cat) and Naya Burn (w/ Atarka and Cat) against the current meta on MTGO? How is it doing so far? The reason I asked is because during GP Vegas, in the 15th round (I went 11-4), it was the mirror. I beat him when I'm playing Nocatl Burn (w/ Atarka) and he was playing Nacatl Burn. I asked him how were his Death's Shadow match ups. He told me he beat all of them (3 matches, if I remember correctly). He explained that an unanswered Nacatl easily takes over the game.
I also noticed that there's barely any deck being posted that went 5-0 in a league on MTGO that maindecks Atarka's Command (w/ or w/o Nacatl). I wonder if no one on MTGO is playing Naya Burn anymore or it's because that Burn decks playing Atarka's Command have a harder time going 5-0. I know that not all decks are being posted but if there was a Naya Burn deck going 5-0, at least a few should show up by now.
I'm not asking why Atarka's Command is not being maindecked anymore. I'm asking how exactly (w/ evidence) Atarka's Command and Nacatl is doing against the current meta, especially online.

I was testing a mono-red burn deck over the weekend and the test seemed promising. Usually I play legacy burn but my friend was testing a few modern decks that he might play in a few tournaments. So when I was building my deck I had a few things in my mind, I wanted to make it mono-red and I didn't want to use Eidolon because I wanted to see if Swiftspear was good. I don't like Eidolon and Swiftspear in Legacy and I had doubts I would like the two in modern.
I'd assumed that since I'm playing mono-red, I'm not absorbing damage from fetch/shocklands. I was correct, my opponent was down 6 life in the first two turns.
I'd assumed that Blood Moon would make an good main deck slot. I was correct, I dropped a 3rd turn blood moon and my opponent was shut down. I think my next build I might add a 3rd blood moon.
I did like Ash's haste but I think Eidolon would be a better control card. I know how awesome is Eidolon (I do own 2 playsets but I was testing Swfitspear)
I'd assumed that without Eidolon, Swiftspear would outperform. No she didn't. Maybe it's because when I tested her I was playing Mishra's Bauble and Urza's Bauble or I'm demanding too much out of her. I do noticed that I have a good number of 2cc spells and Shard Volley that seemed to get in the way of pumping her on the attack. I also didn't like that I was attacking with her for 3 turns as a 1/2 creature. I'll stick with Swiftspear until I get another playset of Vexing Devils or if I find a better creature that fits.
Shard Volley... I do have mixed feelings about the card. I remember years ago there was a debate in the legacy burn thread about Shard Volley, and I didn't see the card a good staple because of fireblast. Shard Volley wasn't difficult to play in my modern burn deck, but it did suck to have 2 in my opening hand and I couldn't cast them to pump swiftspear, without going into a land disadvantage. It did come in handy when I had 4 lands in play. I might drop one Shard Volley.
Rift Bolt... Not much to assume here. I think Rift Bolt is one of the worst burn spells in legacy because the best time to play the card is turn 1, and we are usually playing Goblin Guide. Rift Bolt would be ok in turn 2, but we are playing Eidolon. I wasn't playing Eidolon but it didn't help drawing up Rift Bolt and suspending the card on turn 4. I did win but I didn't like the idea of suspending my game winner on turn 4.
Searing Blaze... Not bad, I had a good number of targets. I thought running only basic lands would make running Searing Blaze a little difficult. It wasn't that difficult, there was one time I had 2 lands in play and cursing the searing blaze, but I drew my 3rd land.
Forked Bolt... I needed another burn spell, and I was looking at shocks. Forked Bolt remind me of a 1cc version of fire/ice and the card came in handy. I do like the idea of taking out 2 chumps for 1cc.
My friend was telling me that Leyline of Sanctity is a very big card in modern. And one of the reasons why most modern burn players play more than 1 color because they need to remove it. I could see that being a problem but I wonder what sideboard options I could consider (yeah I know red cannot destroy enchantments and Anarchy is not modern legal). But the Leyline don't stop me from attacking and global damage like Flamebreak.
For Leyline, you could also try siding Liquimetal Coating to turn Leyline into an artifact and then use an artifact removal of your choice.
Is it recommended to play fetches in a mono red burn build? I was thinking 8 fetches and 10 mountains, for the sole purpose of thinning out the deck but wanted to run the idea by you guys first. Thanks in advance !
4 Grixis Death Shadow
2 Eldrazi Tron
1 Living End
1 Dredge
Counters company is very popular at the moment. GY Hate is a major need.
Is Grafdigger's the right answer at the moment? Turns off Snaps, but folds to K-Command which most Grixis lists run 2-3 of in the main.
Can cause a lot of problems for dredge, not as much living end--but we often do ok vs living end.
No Burn or Affinity in top 32 .
As for Graf....yes with all the decks running Collected Company and Chord of Calling. Even I finally had to bite the bullet and add it. Kolaghans Command is gonna hit Relic, Tormod's Crypt also but not Rest in Peace.
We'll see how the dominos fall on 6/14/17 if anything gets banned........
So would RIP ultimately be a better option than Graf?
Been a while since I sleeved up burn. Wondering if Atarka's Command is still a solid choice. Seems all the topping lists choose to forgo it. This is currently what I'll be rocking:
This is almost the same as the deck I am running now. I run 4 AC in my main board (both cards, and on MTGO) and it helps out a lot. Placed second at my local FNM modern tournament this past Friday with a deck similar to yours. So yes, I say AC is still a solid choice.
Does anyone run 1 Plains in their deck? My Sacred Foundry's have been getting destroyed a lot lately making it impossible to play path, boros charm, and helix. Escpecially on MTGO (Tpeps). Also, for those who play MTGO are you guys also experiencing 75% of the opponents conceding on T1 after they see a guide or swiftspear? I've resorted to only playing constructed tournaments online in order to actually get a full game in x(
Idk that's why I was asking...I was thinking possibly using the extra manna on T3 to get off extra burn spells, but yeah it will most likely be of no help.
Sounds good, I'll switch out deflecting palm for rift bolt then put the 4 palms in the side in place of the 3 ash zealots and 1 kor firewalker. Besides that does the land base look good?

Definitely

I only bring Kor in against maybe Zoo or Goblins, but for the mirror I only bring in my Paths.
