Well, Johnny, there are many reasons why you should not play Yawgmoth's Will and also many reasons why you should as well. But for that vintage player who wants to sock me in the chest for hating Yawgmoth's Will. Let me point out that we are talking about the best Magic: The Gathering card and for the game itself, not the most powerful(that is another debate at a whole). Not only is Yawgmoth's Will broken, it is format warping and demonizing to the whole mtg meta. Almost all combo decks in Vintage run Yawgmoth's Will, even my beloved Vintage Storm uses yawgmoths will to function, and I'm pretty sure if they allowed Yawgmoth's Will in other formats almost all decks will play it.
But here's the thing, powerful cards does not necessarily mean that they are the best cards. To me, the best card should be the one that performs well in the deck that it supposed to be played at AND PROVIDE A BETTER AND MORE THOUGHT PROVOKING GAME IN ITSELF.
Alright, now to the good stuff. Why do I proclaim that Past In Flames is the best card in the game? Well, like what Stephen said about the card Gush,"It is a card that so many dimensions to it." I can almost safely and proudly say that Past In Flames is one of the most skill intensive cards in magic, maybe not as much as Cabal Therapy and Doomsday but it is still up there.When you Past in Flames it gives your spell slinging deck so much gas. Like what Wedge said in TMS, "Past in Flames is like Snapcaster Mage with a punch of adrenaline to the heart"
However, I'm also going to get flame from people saying that Past In Flames (Get the pun?) is only used in Storm decks.
Well.....you are both right and wrong. It is true that Past In Flames is mainly used in modern storm but that does not mean it cannot be used in other decks.I for myself put Past in Flames as a 1 or 2 in any spell slinging modern decks(try flashbacking a bunch of cantrips and utility spells with a monastery mentor or young pyromancer on board then you talk to me).Also, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PAST IN FLAMES FLAHSBACK...NEVER. You have no idea how many times that flashback will save your backside, in grindy games that flashback will be your ace in the hole.(Don't even get me started in EDH for this card)
Furthermore,as a sidenote I would just like to add on how flavorful the card is. As a red mage, it exudes in chaos. The card name itself Past In Flames shows that the red mage is burning its own past memories for a bigger advancement in her discovery of life. It is both sad and tragic to see a Mage go to such a length to uncover the truth( or whatever the mage is looking for in particular )
However, in truth, I just love the card. It is my most favorite card in Magic: The Gathering of all time and I just want to share why I think its potential has yet to be seen by alot of people.
