So, with conflux cards coming in it looks like the block is moving towards rewarding playing domain, which is really confusing me because I expect nacatl-war pride to be a reprint in this block( due to wild nacatl).
Does anyone think that it's possible that alara reborn could reward mono-colored decks? ( in limited and constructed)
I sure hope so, because that would cause a shift in limited pick orders unlike anything before( going from a 5 color AAC draft format to a mono/5 color viable ACAb). It would also give some mono-colored constructed decks more ammo versus whatever new 5c control tools are bound to emerge.

Yeah, right. I got info from an inside source that they're bringing back banding.

I didn't have a second farhaven elf to run so that'd be a bit of a problem there. Wink

I'm starting to definitely see that gleeful sabotage is a main deck card here, and I'm surprised at the number of people who would have cut the howl. It was an mvp in multiple matches for me. It's expensive yes, but resolving it more often then not ends the game.

It only takes 3 bears to swing a game. If you can reliably have more forests than that in play at any given time, why wouldn't you play it?

I would gladly pass Incremental Blight and get the hell out of black's path. Only problem is there's no guarantee that you'd pass Firespout to me. Slant I realize what Incremental Blight does... but if you read the whole post, you'll see I just don't want to put myself into black with first pick first pack. Blight is a great kill, one of the best in the format, but not the best. It doesn't allow for you to deal 3 damage to all creatures and benefit yourself (if you have bigger creatures or held back creatures in a stall game situation). Most of the time Blight is being played to catch up. Sometimes it's a blow out three for 1 on turn 5 and allows you get in. But so many times I've been able to recover after being 3 for 1nd by Blight early in on the game. Again, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying there are a lot of cards I'd like to take over it.

    One question to all:
Has anyone drafted a winning draft deck that's core color is black without Incremental Blight in it? Or Oona or other bombs? The color just seems so weak in limited. I mean one time I had a G/B double Infestation single Defenses wither deck and a Scar Wrathed my opponent's board. I see the merit, but I still don't see black decks consistently making it into the finals.

I see people beat blight all the time because their opponent( the blight caster) throws it out there as soon as they get it. I had finished my match at fnm the other and was watching a round. The player without blight( now player a) had a generic 3/3, generic 2/2, and a seedcardale witch. Player B(player with blight) had a bear in play. Next turn, player b drew blight, and casted with out thinking. He should've played the cuthtroat cinder in his hand to even the board position and held onto blight to push through the last few points in the ensuing race. beacuse he wasted blight turn 5, he lost. Player B simply commited more to the board. I see it on modo a lot, too. I think played properly blight is absurd.

When I see a blight( only twice now out of 88 drafts, wtf?) I just pick a second color fast.

There are only 4 good targets for Runes without Paiter Servant. Don't think you can cut that either.

Safewright quest can often take the place of one land with little ill effect. I would recommend keeping the servant, so all your guys get the best half of deus.

Just looking at the deck-you have a Farhaven Elf, a Safewright Quest, and a Seedcradle Witch-why not play them all? I also am a favorite for Gleeful Sabotage in the main. Here's my suggestions:
    -1 Painter's Servant
    -1 Blazethorn Scarecrow
-1 Howl of the Night Pack
    -2 Forests

    +1 Safewright Quest
    +1 Seedcradle Witch
    +1 Gleeful Sabotage
    +2 Plains

I splash for Seedcradle all the time and believe me once you hit 4 mana with a white out, they can't block effectively (barring wither). It's a house. This deck REALLY needs a Devoted Druid to give it an amazing push. Try to pick those up a lot earlier as they should be drafted in the 2-4 range. +2 mana is very crucial when you have 2 Runes and multiple creatures to put them on.

I would think that you would have had more trouble in the third match. How in the world did a pila-pala w/ PoF not clear out more creatures? So one turn you play Howl, opponent kills what, three of those creatures? Next turn he has to use pala to kill cohort, fine, so you have 6 coming through. I may be missing something, unless the player was awful and using it on their turn instead of your turn. They should have been able to deal with more creatures. The Shield of Oversoul smash is why I always play Gleeful Sabotage in the main. It's got crows and auras to target... what more could you want? Takes out Knollspine, Tethers, Trip Noose (most of the cards you played against). I can't see why it'd be a good idea to leave it on the board.

Omg did you just cut howl of the night pack? One plains is plenty when you have two ways to find it. There will still be plenty of forests for howl.

playing the two memory Sluice would have deserved a loss ^^

3-4 sluice and 2+ drowner initiates are the makings of a playable mill subtheme.

Toil is the worst card. Well, Moth is almost as bad. I guess I actually would more likely play Toil than Moth, because with Toil I can atleast gain life when I want to.

Um, do all your opponents have ember gales?

    I nominate toil to renown.
Also, I've lost to mistmeadow witch+ moth. I hate people sometimes.

Incremental Blight is VERY good as well, but there's a ton of cards I would take over it since I hate black (worst color in SSS). I'd take Firespout, Kulrath Knight, Trip Noose, Murderous Redcap, Biting Tether, Flame Javelin, and Tower Above (even though some of those are black hybrids, that doesn't lock you into black) for sure over Blight, maybe even Prison Term, Leech Bonder, Glamer Spinners, Plumeveil, and Tatterkite (although not so much on the last group).

I want to be on your left.

I think we take the Medicine Runner here, but the Cauldron of Souls is intriging. I makes an interesting combo with Heartmender. There's also Mercy Killing, but I have no idea if that is good or not.

    Cheers,

It's great. Turn your dying fatty into a bunch of weenies, or trade a nuisance for something more managable.

There are just so many creatures that can block and kill a 1/3 flyer in this format.

Umm, a q'ed merrow wavebreakers, and a pumped rune-cervin riders or blistering dieflyn are the only common slot ones that qualify. So, not really.
Uncommons give you 5 more, but limited is about commons.

I would draft the one that I opened the most nutz for or got passed a ton of. IMO, none of them are so overbearing that you should force. Either way, gratz on buying a box of one of the few sets that can result in profiting.

Faerie rogues is far and away the best, force it, then win.

    1. Gloomlance. But it and Burn Trail are the only ones at common that will kill more than half the creatures in the set.
    2. Gleeful Sabotage is a sorcery speed Naturalize with potentially twice the effect.

Gleeful sabotage will probably never be maindecked.
