I found them, and I'm sorry to say that Kresh, the Bloodbraided may have found his replacement...

Unfortunately, I don't think I can quite say the same about my Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund just yet.

So out of curiosity, and since I figure this is probably the best place to ask, does anyone here do anything quirky with their decks.

For example, all of my decks basic lands must have matching art, usually by the same artist too. But in addition, I also need to have all of my lands from the character's home plane. For example, my Rafiq of the Manydeck has all of the Bant basics, but my Thraxymundar has all of the Grixis basics. Then I get to decks don't have a set home plane, like Animar, Soul of Elements or Skullbriar, the Walking Grave. They get plane neutral lands, usually from the Core Sets. However, recently, I did break the rule. I decided Skullbriar, the Walking Grave can get some Innistrad lands since he kind of fits on Innistrad and my Karador, Ghost Chieftain got Avacyn Restored basics on the basis that I'd barely get to use them for EDH otherwise.

I'm liking this one. I'm also sure I can find some things and take photos or something. I'll get brainstorming on this.

As for me, its not Path of Exile, but rather ranting about how cruddy my current D&D group is. My DM is somewhat decent at his best, not stellar or even good for that matter. I dunno how many of you guys play, but let me explain my aggravation with this crew. In our three hour session, our crew accomplished the following: Spent 10 minutes making Doctor Who references to the statues in the barrow, talked about how much McDonalds pays for a case of bacon (4 of the 6 of us work at McDonalds), killed four monsters, I swung my sword 3 times and rolled a dice 5 times, played Duels of the Planeswalkers on my Kindle while our Cleric spent 15 minutes (i timed it!) looking up rules to control four skeletons with 7 hit points each so she could have them fight each other, completely ignoring the fact that me and the other melee fighter could kill them with minimum damage. Needless to say, I need a better crew....

It's been kind of quiet in here? I'd like to get this clan a bit more active again. I posted the quested a few pages ago about the clan tournament for the summer, but no one really discussed the matter further. Is this something we want to do still, or are we going to be waiting until winter for another one?

Oh, and then there is Theros. From a design standpoint, this is the block I have been waiting for for a bout 10 years. I am, needless to say, excited.

Not as backbreaking as loosing some of the more valuable cards, but there is a lost Child of Alara somewhere in my house. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't my only copy and the commander for one of my EDH decks.

you guys seen the "Elspeth in Theros" threads? i'd be so happy to get a white walker who was actually useful in Standard...

It would make some sense. If she does show up in Theros, I am hoping she is better than Elspeth Tirel. Would it be too much to ask for a reprint of Elspeth, Knight-Errant? Yeah, probably....

Maybe Dack Fayden will finally get a card too?

Nice one on the goyf! Unfortunately, I haven't made any interesting additions to my collection with showing off. Just a lot of little things for EDH recently.

Nice fireworks. I assume those were done by you? Glad to see others spent their fourths as pyromaniacs too. The past two years, my pyromanic friend drunkenly made bonfires. I'll have to show some pics of this year and last year once I am on my regular computer. They are pretty...ridiculous, would be the best way to put it ...

Happy to have another friend of the clan. Would you like a legendary creature nickname?

Sure. I'll take Chainer, Dementia Master, my current mono black gemeral and what is probably the black creature that would represent me th most accurately.

Also, any of you may feel free to stop by and visit CMB. Our doors are always open.

Hello all. Glad to see an EDH clan pop up. I'm actually the leader of Clan Mono Black, but if you'd have me as a friend, I'd love to contribute to discussions here.

    What's everyone's favorite general?

I have so many commanders, but if have to say my favorite is my Karador deck. I actually just won a five person game the other night just by stalling out for like eight turns off Karador and Spore Frog so I could assemble a Blasting Station loop.

While we're on the subject of previews, might I present: Dark Prophecy

I really want to put it in my Karador, Ghost Chieftain so bad. Only problem is for those times I want to combo out, I need to eliminate my own enchantment, unless someone else had done so already, which I suspect to be the case in a deck like Karador.

While on the topic, Xathrid Necromancer might be worth a slot in Karador as well.

In the context of EDH, I'd look at him less as a bad Dramatic Entrance and more as a variation on Lead the Stampede. To me, that means something like an elf or sliver deck.

That's a good point. I can see him in swarm decks now. Thinking about it, I'd play it in my Animar deck if it didn't cost 6.

Anyone have any thoughts on new Garruk?

In formats like Standard and Modern, he is pretty much unplayable unless Theros gets us some ridiculous fatties. In Commander on the other hand, I can find some decks that wouldn't complain about having him. I mean, Progenitus is a thing. That said, even my big fattie [card]Mayael the Anima[card] might not use it. Maybe as a late game effect when Mayael is unavailable, but I'll have to see.

Post your deck once you make it! I'd love to see what you come up with. I've run Esper and Bant control lists. Have been toying with the idea of Grixis but I never played it before so I'd be interested to see the decklist from a person who has played those colors together before

If you dont end up doing well with Grixis, do give Jund a thought. I really didnt think I would like it when I first built it and ran it, but it's really been fun. My list differs from the stock list, I can post it if you're ever interested.

I don't have a list just yet,, but this is the deck I am going to create my own version of here. Like I said, its a soft meta I am now going to, so a fine tuned control deck should, in theory, do very well. Everyone there plays mediocre aggro, with the exception of maybe 2 players. Until I create a good list and get it ready, I am rocking Gruul though.

  • posted a message on Do you still trade much?
When I first started, I traded extensively. That was how I got nearly all of my stuff. But now, most players, like myself do most of their business online, which is much easier than trading.

Trading for my area has become more of a ritual than a method of acquiring cards. I haven't been involved in a multi-card or high value trade in ages. Most of the time, its trading some of the random 1-3 dollar rares I got floating around my binder for the same value. Nothing major anymore.

I think, at least in my experience, that most people just get the cards they need and don't really worry as much about having extras for trades.

I'm a control player by nature but the "control" decks that are out there at the moment just dont get it done for me. I turned to playing Jund and it's actually been really fun because while it's commonly referred to as "midrange" due to the creature selection, it's actually very much a control-oriented deck with lots of creature removal, graveyard shut down, hand manipulation, some draw etc. It's not the "permission" style that I cant want to try to rebuild once Caverns rotates, but its a pretty fun and well-constructed deck. I'd recommend it.

The only control deck peaking my interest is Grixis. Its very close to the same Grixis I played way back when. In fact, I played Grixis control for like 3 years, starting with Demigod of Revenge and Cryptic Command all the way to Jace the Mind Sculptor and Cruel Ultimatum, so I am about due to go back to my number 1 control deck.

That and the meta I play at is pretty soft, so I can handle it with Grixis.

@The Tournament: Id be interested in Commander, Modern, Pauper or Peasant, or RTR Block. That said, I'm not sure I'm even going to be playing it.

So, if we want to do a Clan Tournament again, now is the time to do it. Mafia usually takes quite a long time, so this is something we can do to keep the other members who aren't playing mafia involved in inter-clan affairs, which is why I created the tournament in the first place.

The last one was BYOS, and while I like that, I think our summer tournament should be different. Perhaps we can go back to it in the winter, since it was a big hit. As for now, are there any nominations for format?

Once we decide, I'll contact the mods. They liked the idea last time, so I hope they'll be on board again.

As for Mafia, I am not going to represent us this time. I technically have the time for it, but most of that time is away from my computer, so I literally would have pages to read each night to get caught up on. That is something I just can't do. Dechs, if you want it, you can represent us. I have an inkling you'll do a fine job at it.

So in other news, I went to my first FNM in years last Friday. Played Dos Rakis. Went 2-2 and got 4th. Literally, matches 2 and 3 went to 3 games, and in game 3, bad draws got me. In Round 2, my 3rd game started strong, but when you draw into 3Mizzium Mortars and 3 Dreadbore, you can't quite pull the trigger to end the game. Round 3 was just as bad. I got my opponent to 4 life, but then proceeded to draw into 2 Thundermaw Hellkites and was stuck on 4 land. He was playing Bant Hexproof, so he was able to go on the offense pretty quickly and end the match. Aside from that, I was very comfortable with the games I played. Only caught myself making two play mistakes all night, so thats not bad for being rusty at Standard. Next time, I'm playing Gruul though. Or a control deck, but I have to get searching for stuff for those...
