As far as choosing a mono colored deck, it is all about taking turns picking. You pick they pick, once everyone else picks, you get to choose from the green box again. It is just about letting everyone have a fair chance to compete for the best cards.

If no one chooses lets say black, red, or green, then these boxes are left out. Simplifying the whole process greatly. But there are advantages strategically for choosing cards you wont build with, so they dont know your color choice.

When you break down how the cards are sorted in the box, creatures of the same type all together, then instants, sorcery, enchantment auras, and enchantments. It goes faster than I thought.

Lets say you choose a dragon for a commander and love playing red, As you flip through the red cards, you jump to the dragons, choose a card, and see there are several dragons and goblins. You can design a theme around the red color of dragons and goblins. You make a mental note how many creatures you want to pull from that box. Then goto the blue box, and focus on cards that will control, and skip creatures and go for the instants. You notice there are several cards that benefit from a lot of artifacts, so you choose that box next. When you break it down like this, it is much easier. Would be just like building one from scratch from your personal collection. This is just a very limiting way to do it.

If you were to just look at every card it would take forever. Plan is to focuse hard on your commander, then choose creature theme, then plan of attack and support.

Realized tonight, after the leader is chosen the players all should take turns at first dibs on a box fairly. If not, first player gets all premium cards, and that is not fun.

Please provide feedback, as I have just built the 800 card cube, but haven't play tested it yet.

Commander Cube Draft by Andrew Sellers

Purpose: Up to 4 players draft 100 cards (not including lands), in which to build commander decks. (Mono color decks may require more boxes of additional cards, so choose Legendary Creatures carefully to support the cards you have).

Pros: Combos and synergy easy to build in, since you see all your color options as they go around.

Cons: Longer draft process, depending on leader, may limit colored card options.

Create at least 8 boxes of around 100 cards each in the following format:

    1) Legendary Creatures (Planes Walkers/Colorless Eldrazi included if you are limited on stock, may separate these out to their own boxes if you have enough cards).

    2) Red cards

    3) Black Cards

    4) Blue Cards

    5) White Cards

    6) Green Cards

    7) Multicolor Cards

    8) Artifact Cards

Additionally, lands and non-basic lands are all choosen from a large box of lands, non draft style. Grab what you need, 1x of the non-basic lands.

Set the boxes together (lids removed), in front of all players.

Roll a die to determine starting order.

    1) 1st player chooses a Legendary Creature from Legendary Creature/Planes walker/Colorless box for their commander. Then logs # of cards chosen.

    2) Pass to the right.

3a) 2nd player chooses a Legendary Creature from Legendary Creature/Planes walker/Colorless box for their commander.

3b) 1st player chooses a box to choose from (red, black, blue, white, green, multicolor, artifact), then they may choose 1 card.

4a) 2nd player is handed the box 1st player choose from, and chooses a card.

4b) 1st player chooses an unchosen box to choose from (red, black, blue, white, green, multicolor, artifact), then may choose 1 card.

5a) Repeat order of boxes chosen by 1st player.

5b) If a box has no cards being removed, remove that box from the rotation.

5c) Continue until each player has 100 cards.

    6) Choose land cards desired. Max 1x each of non-basic lands.
