Maybe reprinting Shocklands isn't the most creative thing, but when they try to be creative, we get BFZ slow lands and SOI....whatever those were called. Rather underwhelming stuff. In a choice between creativity and efficiency, I'll choose the latter every time.
I'm moving from Standard to Modern and am looking for a suggestion. Black-White is my favorite color combination in the game and so far I own the backbone of many great BW Modern decks (Lili, Thoughtseize, Marsh Flats, Bloodghast)
I was wondering what the consensus was in what the most effective BW deck in the format is right now. Would you all say Smallpox, 8 Rack, or perhaps that new Zombies build thats been floating around?
If you're dead-set on going with U/G, why not just make like a hexproof midrange build?
Tireless Tracker, Greenbelt Rampager, Sylvan Advocate as decent early threats, protect them with Heroic Interventions and Blossoming Defenses, then close out with Bristling Hydra and Verderous Gearhulk. A full playset of Lumbering Falls for a really tough creature to kill plus mana fixing. Card draw with Trackers and Glimmers. There would still be room for a few counterspells too.
Just a thought. Would this possibly thrive in the new meta?
This has probably already been said, but I think the Gatewatch would be enjoyable if the characters were much more fleshed out than they are. The reason why The Avengers are so popular is that the writers give the characters time to breathe and develop. Magic's story eschews this, going mostly from story setup straight to fighting. Although I will give them credit where its due, they have been giving a couple GW members more dimensions of late, specifically Chandra and Gideon, who were the two flattest chracters going into Kaladesh imo.
Believe me I really wanted to put Void Grafter in this deck! I just couldnt justify cutting down on the other creatures for it. It is in the back of my mind as a replacement if something isn't right in testing though.
I do really like your idea of Aether Theorist over Servant of the Conduit though. Theres no third color or anything like Emrakul to ramp into so I feel comfortable replacing it.
I joined this forum specifically to post in this thread bc I'm happy that someone else decided to make this deck! I will post my FNM results this weekend.
I recently changed my R/G Pummeler deck to U/G. It emphasizes Pummeler but also has a heavy hexproof subtheme to it as well. Been tinkering with it for a while.
