    Hey all!

    @redtwister: I'm mostly just stopping by. I really enjoy Dominaria limited atm and don't play a ton of Modern. I also sold all of my Canopies so I can't play the deck in this current iteration.

    @2imu: sweet report! and good job on the finish. As redtwister mentioned there has been quite some discussion on splashing, strategy vs. go wide decks, strategy vs. midrange decks and other topics that might interest you.

    @all: Interesting that conventional Tron has become a worse MU. It used to be quite good. I think of all the SB options you mentioned for this MU SpiderSpace, I am the most intrigued by Dampening Sphere. It is good against both Tron and Hollow One and some others like Storm. Mindcensor seems a bit worse than it used to, since Valakut and Chord decks are not played very often nowadays. Though Hollow One seems quite good already, so we probably don't even want additional cards for this MU to no overboard.

    As for the removal I'm not that high on dec in stone since it is always a two for one against you. Now obviously we don't have many options, as discussed many times before. Seal Away is a newer addition that might be worth a consideration but is probably just worse than other cards including dec. Settle the Wreckage also seems quite good but WW is tough.

    I have been out of the loop for a bit but it is great to see the deck doing well again. Great results Spider, congratulations!
    The deck is putting up more results: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mtgo-standings/competitive-modern-constructed-league-2018-06-01 and https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1120627#paper. Toastxp is playing Spider's list but opted to play two Mark of Asylum in the board, I assume to combat the rise of Jeskai decks.

    Tocatli Honor Guard seems like a really good additon to combat Humans. It looked impressive when I was watching your Stream Spider.

    Interesting card skeeler87. Similar to Worship. Worth a try IMO. It works quite well with Displacer as you can protect it, blink the attacker or the blocker if you attack with Smasher.

    @redtwister
    Yeah in theory it looks pretty sweet to me as well.

    @darkest_before_dawn
    Personally I have not had the same experiences with midrange (If we are speaking BGx). Most of our threats are just pretty good on their own. Try to play around Liliana, it's their best card, and keep hands that are more value oriented than all in /speed oriented (if possible Wink ). Midrange in a Knightfall style is more problematic IMO.

    And for your SB I would personally not play Blessed Alliance. We are too much of an aggro and tapp-out deck for it to really fit. Also Spatial and Needle are cards I'm fine playing in Stompy but would rather replace in DnS since we have more options available. But obviously if you like them just go with them.

    IMO it really depends on the MU. In your example on the draw you can probably already put your opponent on a deck and act accordingly. Generally the more removal I suspect from my op the more inclined I am to open with Chalice. So for example: opponent goes Polluted Delta - go, I would play Chalice. If he opens with Windswept Heath - go (maybe creature combo without mana dork, Scapeshfit etc.), I would open with Mimic. In the dark on the play I would generally go for Chalice. But it also depends on the rest of your hand. E.g. on the play, your hand is double Temple, Smasher, SSG, Chalice and Mimic I would go for T1 Mimic into T2 Smasher (although this is a cornercase scenario Wink ).

    I agree with your last post. What's your impression on settle the wreckage? (If you have tested it).

    @Darkest_before_dawn
    I like both decks quite a bit. The eldrazi Stompy deck is more of a pure aggro deck. You have limited ways of interacting but can be more explosive mostly due to Eldrazi Mimic and your increased consistency of finding Temple. Your SB options are quite limited. DnS offers you more ways of interacting. In the main you play Arbiter, Thalia and Displacer and obviously the SB gives you way more options. If you like brewing and adapting DnS has more room for it. Best example; the post above you by redtwister. He feels like the meta is shifting so he adapts his decklist. In stompy this is less possible. DnS has the lockout aspect (Arbiter + GQ and Thalia) which Stompy is missing. So this is also a question of taste. I feel like DnS has more play to it. You have to decide when to go for resource denial and when to go for Aggro, and Displacer(+TKS) gives you many options. It is less reliant on Temple but the payoff from Temple is also smaller since you don't play only Eldrazis. The Stompy deck seems better at grinding to me because of SGW and the post board Relic Scourge combo. It also goldfishes faster. Stompy is probably the incrementally more powerful deck while DnS lets you tune for a certain meta / is better positioned if Thalia and Arbiter are good in the meta.
    As you see by the discussion in the Stompy thread, a Stompy version without Chalice is viable (even though probably suboptimal). I have not played a DnS version without Chalice and am sceptical about it.

    As for further inputs: Spiderspace has a Twitch account (Sspiderspace) where he quite regularly streams DnS. He is a very good player and this is a premium resource to see the deck in action. But IDK if the old videos are still available. kponceMTG used to stream this deck a bit but without Chalice (replacing them and SSG for Path and Thraben Inspector). This is a suboptimal version IMO and I also like his plays less than Spiders. But it could interest you since he is not playing Chalice either. The only video I know of for Stompy is by Corbin Hosler where he suboptimally plays the deck. Still ok to watch.

    Hope this helps for your decision.

    I would recommend testing all of the different builds before deciding to buy into one of them. This deck here is more explosive and is capable of some ridiculous plays. E.g. occasionally people scoop to T1 Chalice/Arbiter. Personally I think it is very fun to play and I have had good success with it.
    I also think that BW EnT is a good deck atm (I like 4 Bobs, 0 Smasher versions). Regular DnT is a bit underpowered in the current meta IMO.
    If you like flicker tricks and tricky lines of play than EnT/DnT is probably more for you. If you like slamming TKS, Arbiter, Smasher and Chalice as early as possible and to lock people out this version here will do the trick.

    My 2 cents on this subject:

    I have tried versions with and without Chalice and I definitely prefer the Chalice & SSG version. Chalice is just such a powerful card on its own. The synergy between Relic and Scourge is great but it is sufficient out of the board IMO. Just as an indicator of Chalices power look at Eldrazi Tron. They play Chalice even though they have Map and Basilisk Collar as well. And it is not just any card they play, it is part of the reason why Eldrazi Tron is actually a powerful deck. This deck here can abuse Chalice even more because of SSG.
    This being said, if you have great results with MD relic, mtgnorin, then continue playing them! I also think that Tec Edge makes more sense in a build with Relic as your build will be more grindy than a Chalice version. But I don't think that the surprise factor of Chalice matters. The card is still great even if people know about it.

    Besides casually locking down entire decks, Chalice is also good because it is a good tempo card. It protects your expensive threats from cheap removal and therefore helps you to overwhelm your opponent without giving them a good chance to stabilize.
    And it is a good T1 play. This is an aggro deck that is slightly light on T1 plays. Chalice helps in this regard as it allows you to be very proactive from the first turn of the game.

    @NuBlkAU
    Are you talking about kponceMTG?

    That's the list I played. I'm not going to do a full SB guide, but if you are wondering about how to board against a specific MU I will gladly help.

    @daviusminimus
    Welcome!
    Your list seems reasonable for a Budget build. I would go for the third Dismember as the next card to buy. Besides with only two Dismembers Urborg doesn't seem very necessary IMO.
    By selling your last deck you don't mean Amulet, do you?

    Small report from yesterdays Modern Challenge

    Played this deck again yesterday and went 5-1. Unfortunately in the seventh round (last round before Top 8) MTGO crashed/my Internet stopped/ something happened and I couldn’t continue to play. This was extremly tilting especially since I was playing tight all evening and was up against a favorable MU in the last round. Frustrating end of an otherwise sweet event.
    Here are my matches anyway:

    R1 against UW control - win
    Two good games, his answers just didn’t line up well enough with my threats. Cavern of Souls did a lot of work.
    G1 Good hand with Temple, multiple threats, I drew into cavern eventually, TKS took his Wrath.
    G2 Hand with Cavern and multiple threats, I drew into Temple and TKS took his Wrath.

    R2 5c DS - win
    G1 On the play, no t1 discard so t2 Chalice stops him significantly and is the reason I won this game. I grind through Goyf and Liliana. Opp did never find Abrupt Decay for the Chalice.
    G2 t1 thoughtseize into t2 thoughtseize and DS into t3 goyf and t4 goyf quickly runs me over.
    G3 After Serum Powder I keep a 6 lander with double Temple and Relic with Scourge in exile, opp kept one lander with multiple goyfs, i topdeck running TKS he concedes when he fails to find his second land.
    G2 and G3 were very one sided games. Definitely got pretty lucky in G3 there.

    R3 Eldrazi Tron - loss
    G1 T1 chalice on the play. Opp on natural tron into ballista clearing my double Mimics into smasher. Kept a good hand but matched up not well against his.
    G2 Great hand with Mimic, TKS and Temple, he was constricted on mana and I quickly run him over.
    G3 Kept an okay 6 but with mimic and temple. Drew poorly for the next 3 turns and fall behind. Endbringer with Collar into Karn finishes the job.

    R4 aggressive RB discard hollow one deck - win
    G1 I’m on the draw but have an early chalice. It’s a close race. If he would have found a discard effect on his last draw step he would have won the game.
    G2 He had t1 Hollow One into t2 Gurmag and Phoenix - he run me over even though I had t1 Chalice.
    G3 Slightly reboard after seeing Hollow One / Tasigur (I take out Ratchet bomb). I had t2 Chalice on a medium 6. Opp kept a one lander relying on faithless loothing, but he played a creature t1 so my Chalice could still get him. He stumbled long enough for me to find threats and close out the game.
    Opp is on a sweet brew there and it was interesting to play against this deck.

    R5 against Creature toolbox combo - win
    G1 My opp kept a one lander with double bird on 6. I go t1 Mimic into t2 Smasher into t3 TKS. Opp scoops it up.
    G2 Opp kept an unexciting 6 with bird. I went removal into Scourge into Smasher - game
    Opp mulliganed twice and kept risky hands and stumbled a little bit. I got great hands both times so the match was over after just a couple of minutes.

    R6 Eldrazi Tron - win
    G1 Super close game. Opp had the choice to try and stabilize or to try and race me. He tried to race me with Smashers which I was very happy about as I could not have powered through his defense if he had played the game more defensively. We got into a very tight spot in the end and Opp made a slight misstep that cost him the game.
    G2 I have the double Temple double TKS and Smasher hand, while Opp did not have the nut draw so I could power out my creatures before him to quickly run him over. He scoops on t3.

    I got pretty good draws through most of the event and so eventually my luck had to end at some point. It did here in form of a dead connection to mtgo.

    R7 against UW. A bit of early pressure from my side, he can keep the board relatively clean. He was plusing his Jace against my board of 4 lands and a Scourge. He decides to minus Jace reveiling Wrath, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Spreading Seas. I split Seas and Wrath against Gideon, he takes the Gideon and plays it. Luckily he decides not to Tec Edge my fourth land.
    I topdeck the fifth land for my Smasher. At this point he has one unknown card in hand, if I recall correctly, and I had a Cavern of Souls on Eldrazi so it would have been quite likely for the Smasher to connect, which would have cleared the Gideon (together with Scourge) and leave me in a good spot.
    But I never got to play the Smasher as MTGO stopped responding at this exact moment. I don’t know exactly what happened but I couldn’t get it to work in time to continue playing. So I lost the match and couldn't continue in potential Top 8.

    Overall I had good draws, good MUs and made no mistakes as far as I am aware of, so had a pretty good run. I am happy with the MD and the lands configuration. There are less grindy decks like BGx at the moment and SGW can be too mana intensive / clunky when you draw multiple lands in a row. I rarely get to activate it nowadays. That’s why I went down to two copies.
    Cavern seems great to me atm. It’s really important not to walk into Remand against Storm and to Resolve your creatures against the Control decks which feature more counters atm. So I'm on 3 Cavern of Souls, 2 Tec Edge, 3 Blinkmoth, 2 SGW, 0 Mutavault.

    Interesting to see that your list has no Dismembers MD. I can see the appeal of EE but it seems quite narrow to me in multiples in the main. Against E-Tron and Grixis DS Dismembers are very good. And sometimes you need to kill a creature on t2 like against Storm / Creature combo. It' such an efficient answer and helps generating tempo which this deck can profit from.
    I don't think that leaving out Dismembers completly is correct.
    But a one of EE MD could be good.

    I have been testing Gideon, Ally of Zendikar in the board (in WB EnT) and I really liked it. I think that would be my choice against GBx at the moment.
    Against the current meta with Storm and Valakut being T1 I would also want some Mindcensors somewhere in the 75 (probably the SB).

    It will definitely be interesting to see if the new wrath turns out to be a good option. This would further boost mono W.

    @AsesionQc I have never played a version without Chalice. mtgnorins list is without Chalice and SSG. Take a look at it. Similarly I would try the list Ashtonkutcher played with maindeck relic instead of Chalice and go from there. If you feel comfortable with the configuration - great and if you feel the need to try the other way around (with or without) then you can swap afterwards. If you don't play SSG go for cards like an additional Dismember/Copter/Endless one/etc. But don't go for hardcore sideboard cards like Pithing Needle, Surgical, All is Dust or the like.

    I would not want to play Unclaimed territory. You absolutely never want the colored mana from it. Go for other utility lands.

    Go for Spatial Contortion in this case.

    DoJ just because I wanted to try them out. Not necessarily because they are better. Same goes for Shefet Dunes.
    You are right about the Rip & Cage. 3 Copies of GY hate seems like enough in the current meta.

    I think MD Mirran Crusader are a bit excessive and we don't really need the help against DS to justify MD Crusader. Besides DS, Crusader is not too well positioned agaisnt the other T1 decks so I wouldn't want them in the main.

    Interesting. I will try a version with Tec Edge instead of Blinkmoth to get a feel for it. How I anticipate the MUs: get better: Scapeshift, all tron variants, Control, Bant Eldrazi. get worse: Affinity, Abzan, DnT.

    @AsesinoQc
    I think this deck functions quite reasonably on a budget. And you can easily later expand it to Eldrazi Tron or other Eldrazi Variants if you feel like doing so/want to change it up.
    The whole creature package (besides TKS but he is a must) is really cheap (looking at online prices) and the landbase isn't expensive either.
    I would play the four Relic instead of Chalice in the main and your land of choice instead of Cavern (about 100 tix for the MD). So if you don't play Chalice you should probably adapt your SB a little to help in the MUs where you would want Chalice (Burn, Grixis DS etc.)
    Ashtonkutcher has already played a list with MD Relic for a while if I recall correctly. You will find his lists in the primer or on Modernnexus (You should definitely read his articles about this deck there). That's certainly a good starting point.
    Btw: Don't play the sword (still in my list on mtggoldfish) it's expensive and bad.
