OK, strange idea--could there be some kind of weird price-by-association effect given the absurd value of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy? I don't think I've ever seen it (so it could be complete bull), but something like "I missed out on JVP, I'm not going to miss out on the next Jace?" I mean we've had tons of good and bad Jaces (is that really the plural?), so one might imagine we would have seen such a phenomena before, if it exists.

It happened with Jace 3. A lot of people identify branding more than card mechanics.

Jeez, how is Jace at $30? Are they seeing something I'm not? I saw him a bunch cheaper yesterday, so that means a lot of people pre-ordered him.
I have no idea. I'm looking at all of the new walkers and nothing about any of them says "Hi-octane competitive." They look like more casual cards that are going to have a hard time holding up even in EDH. So I have no idea. I just don't get that people would see these as a good investment in a set that's clearly forcing aggro over control (or am I totally wrong?)

how about the new sigarda? i still like the old one but not sure bout this new one

Unless we see something to really make Human Tribal AND a need to give them hexproof I cannot see her settling at more than $5. 5$ is only because if casual demand and not even really much in EDH since the things she wants to do, other generals do it better.

Do you think that new Jace will have the price trajectory of the Vryn one? Not in absolute dollar price but in terms of raising.

No. It'll start high and sink to $10 with some ups and downs in there. I'd look at Tamiyo because this is just a reprisal of Tamiyo with someone in Marketing saying "Jace looks better on packs."

(Long term, if it sticks it could go to $20)

    Welp, Jace is nuts.

Which is good, because **** Jace, Vryn's Prodigy

    Nuts as in bad?
    5 mana to scry 1?

I've never put down a formal methodology for evaluating walkers for MP Cube, but this is really close to how I think about it as well (though I don't use criterion #3 since I don't run Doubling Season).

On that note, what do you guys think of Nahiri, the Harbinger? Boros is probably the weakest section in our Cubes, and she seems...okay? The + ability isn't great in WR, but the - ability seems solid and you can build loyalty without discarding if you really want to. I'm not sure if I'm evaluating her fairly due to the fact that I really want to jam in some decent MP Boros cards already.

Boros is awesome in mine. Gisela, Aurelia, Assemble the Legion, Boros Charm, and some other stuff... I could see her bumping something like Aurelia's Fury or Legion's Initiative based on power level, but 4 mana sorcery speed cards are not what I want to be adding in there.

    Yes. Yes they did.
This card goes up and down a lot though.

At my local FNM, people are disillusioned with Modern and Pauper is firing frequently. If this is commonly occurring, it will have an impact on the Pauper market.

Locally, there are at least 3 shops with weekly Paper Pauper events and it's far from being some "oh hey, let's go play casual." For the last 18 months or so I have been converting my Modern staples (I don't use because I don't play Modern) on Pucatrade to EDHCube and pauper cards - with the majority being Pauper. I can tell you that it's already happening - the prices have gone up quite a bit for staples, sky rocketed on a few, but on the "recent trades" ticker on the front page I've noticed a lot of cards that are Pauper regulars... like just now I see the last trades include 1 Ulamog's Crusher, 2 Hooting Mandrills, 2 Smash to Smithereens, 2 Sunlance, and 1 Distortion Strike. Sure, they may see play elsewhere but that's a lot of Pauper staples just sitting there for me to ignore.

(I know there is a thread for Other format Huge Gainers, but Pucatrade has been huge in developing Pauper because people are still trading off their commons on Pucatrade... unlike a lot of other formats.)

It also draws aggro which is helpful.
    I don't follow.

Yeah, but how often to you get repeatable draw in boros at all? Especially with repeatable removal and a decent 3rd ability if it sticks long enough. Looting tends to be a blue mechanic with very few repeatable looters in red. With Red's artifact recursion and white's creature and odd other stuff recursion, looting isn't a bad ability to have. That, and think of how good this would be in a WRB deck with black's added recursion.
    It's not draw though.

Every Boros deck wants more draw, looting is just how red does that. The fact that she is also removal built into that as conditional as it is will have her see play.

Every Boros deck wants more draw, yes. They don't all want a card that nets you nothing.... for FOUR mana and can only be used as a sorcery. There are so many other possible cards in red you can use to get cards. It's not 2011 anymore.

Huh, I never realized Pauper was such a huge thing that it could cause price spikes like that. I guess because no one I know plays it anymore.

It isn't a huge thing, but it is gaining in popularity. And because of that.... the sharks circle.

Wow! What's going on with this card? I have an FNM copy throw into a terrible T4 deck I don't even play with anymore and some non foil copies. Last time I saw this card's price it was like a buck.

Printed at common in Vintage Masters. In Pauper Monoblack Control, AnglerDelver, and Teachings are all popular archetypes and most run a full set.
That and Battle Screech are the two that seem to really be swayed by Pauper right now.

Well Nahiri is certainly a house in Boros decks.
Really? I cannot see how any Boros deck I've ever seen would play this.

So Nahiri, The Harbinger seems interesting.Been able to search for Blightsteel Colossus or other big and nasty creatures and giving them Dash seems interesting
I love how she is the first Planeswalker ever where people evaluate her based on her ultimate. That should be a signal that she's got issues. Grin
