You play the land. The next card is revealed. The land hits the battlefield. The ability for hedron crab goes on the stack. You choose the target for the ability. So yes, you would be able to see your next card.

Played 2 events over the weekend, Saturday, individual, Sunday 2hg. Saturday pool had no value whatsoever. Door of destinies, awaken the ancients, shivan dragon, quicken, megantic sliver, burning earth. Played Izzet control because I had good removal in those colors, i only had 23 creatures out of 75 cards, one of the worst sealed pools i've ever had. Still went 3-1-1 somehow.

Sunday 2hg opened a stupid sick pool that made up for saturday and never even came close to losing a game with my partner. I played naya aggro and my partner played orzhov lifegain. We opened archangel of thune, mutavault, lifebane zombie, haunted plate mail, fireshrieker x2, bonescythe sliver + 3 predatories + 2x battle, +2x vigilance, +2x striking +2x blur + 1x manaweft. Double striking slivers with mark of the vampire on them are stupid xD. We won every round at 38 or more life, easiest 5-0 ever Smile So the law of averages worked out well for us since sunday was as lucrative as saturday was frustrating!

If we're looking at a variety of formats I would suggest the following. (take what i say with a grain of salt, I'm a limited master, and I do not play standard, modern etc etc etc)

    Standard:
Scavenging ooze as original poster said, potential is there.

Gladecover scout. If bant hexproof is still a think after geist rotates, I can't see how this doesn't get a home.

Haunted plate mail in a near-creatureless control deck. (esper post rotation perhaps?) Plate mail and Mutavault give you two legit options to navigate around surpreme verdict in your own deck and not be left with an empty board yourself.

Kalonian hydra: Not by itself, but with exava, ogre battledriver, etc. It needs haste to be considered for constructed. Trade them now, it's not worth 25$, it will drop.

Archangel of thune: Also not a 30$ card as i've seen some places, is it great, sure, it even partners well with the hydra, it'll see some fringe play imo, i just cant see it being great outside of edh, rogue decks, etc.

    Limited: (sealed or draft)

Bonescythe sliver/predatory sliver: if you can find a way to squeeze out removal from your opponents before you drop this guy, it changes games. Pair it with a few predatories, or, if you're fortunate enough a mutavault, and some other fun slivers. If you don't get predatory slivers though, don't consider playing slivers, let others in your pod fight for them. (I played naya slivers today, 7/14/13 in our local 2hg tourney went 4-0 first place, my partner was black/white lifegain, i'll get back to this in a minute)

Mark of the vampire: Its a common, it must suck, blah blah blah. Wrong. You have a flier? Now you have a bigger, lifelinking flier. You have a double striker? You just won the lottery. Evasion + (+2/+2 and lifelink).... and this is from a guy who normally hates enchantments b/c they lead to blow outs and bad 2 for 1s.

The usual suspects: Doom blade, claustrophobia, banisher priest, pacifism. Removal is removal, if you have it, play it. Same goes for your red removal, flames of the firebrand, shock, volcanic geyser (instant speed x spells ARE worth the extra red)

Artifacts? - Haunted plate mail, fireshrieker, strionic resonator (there's a lot of really good triggered abilities)

Vampire warlord + tenacious dead + a ton of other black effects: It's a pretty nifty thing to have recurring regeneration on a 4/2 frame in limited even if you have to play two subpar cards to do it.

Congregate: I hate lifegain in most cases, but in M14 it does a really good job of being a balanced psuedo-archetype for a limited deck.

M14 brings very little to the table imo for standard. It seems to be an extremely balanced limited set, and personally, I'm fine with that. But I know i'm in the vast minority. Just a few thoughts from a limited guy.

    ^he beat me to it.

It only kills the thrag or voice. The creatures hit the graveyard from mutilate (in the order of creatures, followed by spell, but simultaneously). The triggers for thragtusk and/or voice happen and the token is put into play. They survive as mutilate is already resolved and done with.

www.Gamefaqs.com is holding their "best video game ever" competition. The finals are Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 10, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past. Lets show some MTG Salvation love by voting for the best game ever (and hopefully you'll choose FF7 :D)... I'd choose Magic the gathering myself but it isn't an option Frown

  • posted a message on Hey all, new to MTG here...
I believe EssentialMagic.com still has a random hand generator based on a supplied deck. I was a former Pokemon Turned Digimon Turned Yugioh Turned Magic player. As you evolve into a more complex human being (growing up) you'll want your card game to evolve with you. Trust me, its for the better. Magic keeps your wits about you and your mind sharp... Whether you're 7 or 87 you can play MTG and still play well if you want to. Mana adds a new level of depth to it. There are so many more forms of magic out there as well. Standard, Extended, Legacy (Constructed, using your own built deck) and limited (sealed, draft, zen, zenwars, supersealed, cube draft, gun and a myriad of others) where you put the cards you choose into a deck and build from there. Never be afraid to try new types of magic, you'll only love it more. If you ever want some information on how to play (2 players, 3 players, using single packs, 2 packs, 3 packs, 6 packs, 8 packs, 10 packs, 12 packs) i can, and would be glad to help you. Just pm me here Smile

Good luck with magic and i hope you stick with it Smile

so, would 5cc take out resounding thunders (for the versions running it) and put this banefire in? I'm not that familiar with the 5cc decks right now, i know i played one @ states with my elfball deck and dominated it, so it wasnt an issue hehe.

To be entirely honest. I, personally... me... hate type 4... that said, the rules i have played by in the past (most of which have been listed) kept it somewhat interesting. The only major rule which was included was a limit on "going infinite". Setting x as a value (or up to a value) made things flow a lot more smoothly.

Anyway. If you want casual and you want no cost and you want all that. Play any one of the myriad of formats out of your own personal cube. Zen, Zenwars, Pack wars, Draft, Sealed and many others. That way you maintain the sanctity of the game we call Magic: The Gathering while still having low/no cost fun. That's the true timmy in all of us... Not a random pile with no rules.

P.S. To all those who enjoy type 4, keep on keepin on Smile Smile Toodles.

Perhaps (yes, this is a total stretch... but hey... nicol bolas is back right?)...

Perhaps there is an interaction with this vampire much like the unhinged card "enter the dungeon" where you start a subgame of sorts.

If nothing else it would be entirely interesting; granted this idea is less plausible than every other suggestion i've read Smile

I would absolutely love to see a Magic: The Gathering video game... the problem though exists with the current consoles. If a game or set of games is released on ps3 or xbox and it DOES NOT have online capabilities it will be a joke. On the same line though, if it DOES have online capabilities it will take a large chunk of revenue from magic online. They could of course be combined to make one big happy family, which would be refreshing.

Anyone else even remotely excited to see a MTG console game? even if it is only half decent.

    Quote from Mr. President
Remember Trix (Donate/Illusions of Grandeur/Academy Rector/Yawgmoth's Bargain)? It became famous after someone named Michelle Bush tore up some big tournament or other with it.

Around here, I don't see many women players at the weekly tournaments, but there's a few at the pre-releases. For some reason, the weekly grind of trying to make more money from Magic than they spend on it Rolleyes seems to be more appealing to men.

Michelle Bush is still quite the player. Have met her personally up here playing in vermont/new hampshire. Friend of mine played her in top 8 at vermont states 2 or 3 years in a row Lol. i know he won 1 match and she won 1 match, not sure if there was a third or not.

Wilt-leaf Liege is a "god among men" card in limited, and not too bad at all for standard either.
