I was in the same boat. I have been going to the booster drafts to get some of the new mechanics down, some play experience, and just collect some cards. I am going to the Kaladesh pre release this weekend for the same reason. I am hoping to get a standard deck built after this which i buy individual cards for at my LGS.
I guess you really need to know what format you want to play. As the guy above said WotC website has all the info on what the different formats are and banned cards.
Also ive been looking a couple channels on youtube to get an idea as well. I like Tolarian Community College a lot. Not surebwhy, but i do. Hope this helps a little.
That's probably up to you to decide. Whether the event is actually fun for you depends on other factors. Challeneges of getting there, room at the event, people at the shop, how well the event is run etc. all affect what you think of the event.
What I think is if you enjoy your shop and have fun at the first prerelease, why not stay for a second one? I always have a blast when I go to my shop for a prerelease
I love the shop. It was the shop i grew up in. The people i have met on my return seem to be friendly, although, according to my wife i can talk to anyone. I guess really my question was more on money spent to cards gained.
The title pretty much says it all. Lsst time i had played regularly Urzas saga was in its second block and i was riding my bike to my LGS. I recently took a new a job and lost my bowling and softball night . I needed a new hobby, so i decided to get back into magic. I have been to a few FNM drafts to get some playing experience and restart my card collection. I am excited for the Kaladesh release, the cards look awesome and something about literally being able to run enemies over pleases me. I am going to at least 1 prerelease event at my LGS. Not sure what i am getting into, any advice or just a heads up what to expect would be appreciated.
Thanks
I just got back into magic myself with 0 cards. I have just been hitting the booster drafts to get some experience and cards back. Its a fun way to meet people and collect cards again. I am looking for a BFZ or oath fat pack because those full art lands look awesome.
I am working on a deck for standard, when the BFZ gets out of standard can i still use those land cards?
Yes. Basic lands are the best example of this, but any time a card is reprinted in a new set, all black or white bordered copies of that card are legal. Since basic lands are printed in every set, then all the BFZ forests, moutains, plains, swamps, and islands are legal no matter when you play.
Example: If in Kaladesh Lightning Bolt was reprinted, all versions of that card with a black or white border would be standard legal, regardless if it was the Alpha, Judge foil, 4th EditionMM15 version, or the M10 version.
