I have been working on my own version of the interactive planeswalker deck and I think its in a pretty good spot right now. I have not brought it to any majors tournaments recently but I play it on MTGO and at my stores modern a couple times a week.
Some notes:
It is a four color deck but for the most you can get away with it because Oath of Nissa is an amazing card and these are the best combination of planeswalkers I have found so far.
I know a lot of people like having garruk as a 4 of but I would suggest against that. While I agree that garruk is the best planeswalker in our deck, it just feels terrible when you only have a garruk in play and top deck a garruk. I think Xenagos is better as a 1 of than a 4th garruk in any deck that is already running red.
Against any fair deck we will win the late game just because of planewalkers. Also along that note I feel that playing against control is as close to a bye as our deck gets.
I really don't think creature based decks are where green devotion wants to be right now because of the rise of fatal push and fall of lightning bolt I think planeswalkers are at the best right now.
I would like to see wizards finish the priest cycle and also make them modern. There are currently Priest of Gix and Priest of Urabrask. I would just like them to finish the cycle and add Priest of Gix to modern.
When did people start going back form geist to Burning Tree?
I see a lot of lists, in recent posts, packing 4 Emissary instead of geists and i cannot understand why.
True it will give you mana, but what u need for fast kills are creatures out of genesis wake that can attack right away. If you pass the turn after a Genesis Wave you are asking for a wrath...and that brings me to my second point.
How are you going to survive against wrath effect, instant wrath effects (Living end), without creatures that actually remain in play after a wipe?
Some lists run Kitchen Finks (some as 1-of). If you play that deck you are asking for your opponent board wipe.
BUT....if i'm wrong in any point, i'd like someone to explain me the reason, so i can actually try them in my deck....
Burning Tree Emissary and Strangleroot Geist do two different things in these decks. BTE allows for very explosive plays which can ramp into a lot of mana in one turn. Strangleroot geist is a creature that is very hard to kill and will add devotion for a while so its plays in a deck that is trying to hit critical mass over a couple turns before doing something big.
In a BTE deck you also want something to do with the man after you play it so cards like elvish visionary and nest invader become much better. Also do not play BTE and strangleroot in the same deck they make for some very awkward hands where you either play BTE or strangleroot but not both because of the mana.
After you hit a G-wave for big swinging in with a couple strangleroots geists will not win you the game so either way you have to wait until the next turn to win. But in the case of wrath effects you are still going to have planeswalkers that were in play. So if you are playing against control and already have resolved planeswalkers you are in a very good position no matter what and if you are playing against living end and got caught unaware of the boardwipe then just play safer postboard:).
I just took this deck into a 40 person tournament and finished 8th.
This deck eats any control match up. During the tournament I played Nahiri Jeskai 3 times and beat all three 2-0.
I have been really impressed with how Ruric Thar has been playing and have been thinking about moving the 2 from the sideboard into the mainboard. I would take out the Chord and something else. It just seems like any time I play Primeval Titan Ruric Thar could just finish the game better. Its just so strong against a lot of the modern meta game.
My question is do you guys think that 8 payoff cards is too many or about right?
Also have anyone tested Satyr Hedonist. It seems like it could be nice to sac it before doing a big G-Wave.
