Cards that makes us lose life are to avoid, imho. Engineered Explosives also isn’t the best, but it’s very versatile and it deals with most walkers in the current Modern.
Life loss is a concern, for sure, but having a catch-all answer is very powerful. You just have to play with the knowledge that you could need to bolt yourself.
Thanks, Cody. So much for my plan to just watch Donny’s latest stream and make grandiose proclamations about where he’s gone wrong in his deckbuilding. =)
Hi all, returning after a long hiatus; finally got into a new job with a little more flex time.
My question for you all is: Is there still a consistent core to the deck? Last I played (pre-JTMS unban), the deck consistently ran 2-4 Snaps, 4 Charms, 3-4 wraths, 3-4 cryptic, and 4 Path, with also fairly consistent draw spells (T2), permission (Knot, Remand), and X spells (Rev, Zenith, Secure the Wastes).
Is there currently such a shell in Esper draw-go? Or is this a time of flux where everyone is trying to figure out the deck again after the upheaval of the last few sets?
Shaheen Soorani posted a sweet list on Star City. Obviously, it runs 3x Souls, but it’s sniffing at the borders of where most of the posted decks on this page have been.
I don’t know... Looking at Goldfish, discard spells are in at least 25% of decks right now, with Bolt at about 40% prevalanec. Shutting off four of the top 10 cards is good enough for me to want a couple MD Leylines, especially with how brutal discard can be against our game plan.
I didn’t list that one because I don’t think Snap is enough. I agree that if we make the deck more creature-centric with fairies, it becomes very intriguing, but we’ll have to revamp the deck to being less spell-centric.
Hey, so there are Dominaria spoilers that have been confirmed by Wizards. Of note, I saw the two cards listed below:
Lyra Dawnbringer
3WW
Legendary Creature — Angel
5/5
Flying, first strike, lifelink
Other Angels you control get +1/+1 and have lifelink.
Baneslayer is better.
Damping Sphere
2
Artifact
If a land is tapped for two or more mana, it produces C instead of any other type and amount.
Each spell a player casts costs 1 more to cast for each other spell that player has cast this turn.
Not to mention that the more scry effects like Serum and Azcanta, the fewer overall lands you need to run. For that reason, making WSZ worthwhile is much more difficult than making Secure.
Hey everyone! Sorry it’s been a while; work has been endless lately and I haven’t been on MTGO or in the local card shop for a bit. But obviously, the king has returned (Jace, not me) and now I’m champing at the bit for some deckcrafting! (Horses champ, Lemon!)
I love the idea of going heavier on discard, switching over to Serum Visions, and maxing out on Lingering Souls. But I think everyone is overlooking Collective Brutality. With the expected surge in aggro, I think a T2 Brutality, discard Souls, T3 Inquisition/Thoughtseize, flashback Souls, T4 Jace sounds amazing!
Anyway, thanks to all of you who let me lurk and play vicariously through you. Until next time!

This is a truth fact. However, I always found a spot for Anguished Unmaking, instead.

Possible SB hoser for Tron and Storm decks?
