    Quote from 6jerfz
The thing that is truly perplexing about this thread and argument in general is why non-vegetarians are offended by and feel attacked by vegans and vegetarians. For the most part, when someone tells a NON-vegetarian that they do not eat meat, that person's response is something akin to "I'm going to eat a big bloody steak right in front of your face!" (or "Moral arguments for meat eating" for that matter) and it makes no sense.

Vegetarians aren't doing it to make you mad and they surely aren't doing it to harm anyone or anything, they just have different ideas about what is acceptable to eat and do
it out of a deeper love for animals, not appetite. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she doesn't eat meat because she truly loves animals too much to think of them dying for her to eat. I am not a vegetarian, but I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with her not eating meat and I understand her viewpoint distinctly.

The fact that "plantz r alive! rofl nowwut????!" is stupid and not a valid argument. You know the difference between animals and plants and it is that distinction that makes it acceptable to vegetarians to eat them. Clearly, life to each is different.

When it comes down to it, you need to grow up and step out from under that roof you're living under. Vegetarians are doing what they feel is appropriate for themselves, they don't do it for you (imagine that), and what they do doesn't hurt anyone or anything, but rather helps some living things in the world.

I can't speak for anyone else (if anyone else feels the same way as me, speak up), but I don't call out vegetarians for "not eating meat". I call out [specific] vegetarians for being pompous and insufferable, for implying that it is somehow wrong for me to eat meat, and that I am a bigot or murderer for doing so.

I like what I like, don't shove your pushy "lol meat is murder u should be ashamed" agenda down my throat.

IMO, those kinds of people really deserve no serious argument, I feel no need to waste my time on such nonsense. So the "I'm going to eat a massive steak in your honor" is what they get.

Bands like Bathory, Ulver, etc are part of the 10% I really like. What I really don't like is the utterly horrendous folk/power or folk/melodeath hybrids that seem to plague metal nowadays. Slant

Agalloch, I've never been really big on. Good band, but they should be a band that connects with me, but they just don't. :S And I've listened to a lot of their stuff too.

Neurosis I haven't really heard. Recs?

Am I weird in that I prefer Rammstein to Laibach? I'm not really a big big fan of industrial, but Laibach's just sorta annoyed me tbh.

Oddly enough, I don't really mind folk (I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it, but I wouldn't complain)... but when it's mixed with metal, in 90% of cases, it just makes me cringe tbh. I honestly wish bands like Eluveitie and Ensiferum would hang up the skates.

    Quote from Ramon H
Well... I guess I shouldn't bother posting here but imho Spongebob is the saddest excuse for a childrens cartoon I have ever seen. Both creatively and educationally. I am fully aware that entertainment supercedes information these days but I honestly can't see anything "fun" in this travesty of a cartoon. To be honest I feel Spongebob may be one of the causes of ADD with kids. Heck it almost gives me ADD after watching it for 5 minutes. Anyway, I respect peoples opinion on this but am somewhat interested in finding out what exactly is supposed to be "fun"in this... cartoon.

I didn't think a show GIVING someone ADD was possible. I thought it was something one had from birth? Slant

But regardless... if you're expecting Spongebob to be anything other than a fun, obnoxious cartoon, you miss the point. Sometimes obnoxiousness can be funny, y'know? To call it a travesty just because of your epicurean, sophisticate cartoon tastes (lol) is just... wow.

ITT an influx of pushy vegetarians such as GuacoJeep, getting on an imaginary high-horse, laughably pretending that animals lives = human lives

There's nothing wrong with eating meat. It's what we've been programmed to do. We've been eating meat since the goddamn caveman days, and you're never gonna get people to stop.

I'm all for stopping torture in slaughterhouses and everything (actually tbh I don't really care, but if it'd stop activists whining at me, then do it), but stopping the killing of animals for food, period? Get the **** out of my office.

I'm going to eat a massive steak tonight. In honor of everyone here. Wink

Oh, ok. I can respect that viewpoint; apologies for getting so defensive, man!

I guess it's just instinct tbh... as a DM fan, I've had to defend my tastes seemingly at every opportunity, in RL and on other websites (luckily here there is a thread devoted to metal). So hopefully you can understand.

    Cheers!

Lady GaGa is actually great. Just sayin'. She's a classically trained musician that actually has skills to write some fun, non-obnoxious pop tunes. To say she is "talentless" shows that one's opinion on music is not to be taken seriously, ever.

    Also:

(I still dig Aqua and Sin With Sebastian {I guess I was mistaken when I said I don't like that sort of thing?!} and lots of completely braindead metal.)

I hope you're not calling metal "braindead", because if so, that's pretty lame. I'd like to know exactly which metal you're calling "braindead" and which metal you listen to. Metal's one of the better, more artistic genres of music I've found tbh. Yeah, it's loud, yeah, it's harsh, yeah, it's abrasive, but that doesn't make it any less artistic.

As for the topic at hand... yes, I do believe there is objectivity in music, but I find tbh, that the worse genres are the more "pretentious" ones tbh. I in general cannot stand a lot of indie artists... I also cannot stand glorified elevator music like Coldplay that seems to get ****tons of praise where I live. I also cannot stand "progressive metal" or "alternative rock", such as Dream Theater and Tool respectively... "LOOK AT ME I JUST PUT A HEAVY SECTION NEXT TO A SOFT ONE/A 4/4 SECTION NEXT TO A 5/8 ONE WORSHIP MY AMAZING SONGWRITING SKILLS". I don't find it to be very engaging, exciting, innovative, etc, or any of the other factors that determine "good" music at all.

    Carry on.

    Quote from dcartist
You gotten all the response you're going to get on the earlier stuff and I have nothing more to add( and I've repeated myself enough ). And i've thoroughly responded honestly on "furries" as you asked me to, but you've completely ignored it. I'd move on if I were you.

Here's your chance to educate the world on what good death metal adds to the world of music, and why you like it. While i respect death metal, maybe you can shed light on why the drones and the media that drives the drones, consider death metal an adolescent phase that well adjusted people grow out of by the time they're 25?

The drones and the media that drives the drones are stupid.

They also thought that Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, etc, were bad for people, and sent subliminal messages. They took part in the massive burning of Ozzy records in the 80s. You actually take their opinion seriously?

Death metal is not a phase, and is not a party. Metal til' ****ing death.

    Quote from dcartist
I personally don't consider "death metal" to be crap ( more of a phase, with some people getting stuck in it longer than others )

Say that in the metal thread. I dare you.

    Quote from dcartist
but I know most people consider "crap": cacophonous wall of sound played by mediocre guitarists over affected vocal growling about morbid topics, with "scary" names and outfits that teenagers would have shocked their parents with (in the 1970s maybe).

    A) I see nothing wrong with cacophony in music, nor the "wall of sound" approach. If all music was "beautiful" or "aesthetically pleasing", music as a relevant artform would've died long ago. People who expect all music to sound "pleasant" are killing art tbh.
    B) Anybody saying that death metal is a genre played by "mediocre guitarists" is basically saying "hey, my opinion on music is backwards and invalid! Don't take me seriously!"

Quote from Jolly the Octopuss »
As for having a tin ear. I don't think it takes a tin ear to notice that much of todays popular music sounds pretty friggin similar. I mean I like a handful of death metal bands, but even I'd concede that a lot of them can sound similar, especially if it's not something you listen to often.

Only if you're not looking very hard.

Dude do NOT try to argue. Music is solely based on opinion but he thinks that everything he says is absolute fact and that everyone should agree with him or just stop listening to music. Best to just put him on your ignore list and just move on because you are going to have a more intellectual conversation talking to a goat.

Not really, I just don't like when people spread misinformation and in general, act like ignorami regarding music. Such as your blind dislike of anything good, for example.

Anybody else see this complete idiocy? Seriously? Blatant baiting.

If you think you're being baited into an attack like this, please don't oblige them. Infraction issued.

Not to mention, two gripes with Sarkhan's list:

    1. Like Dracosavant said, Satyricon's only worthwhile albums are the first few. Not only that, but K.I.N.G. isn't even a black metal song... Slant A case could be made for "black n roll" but that's stretching it.
    2. Blooddrunk is a great Bodom album, and the third best they've done behind FTR and Hatebreeder.

I used to be named Buttock1234 on every game and forum I signed up for. Basically, it stems from when I first started playing Diablo II... my first character's name was "DigitalButtocks", in single player. Fun times.

I changed to "The Butt" cause it's just better-looking.
