The U/W version is so much more effective and efficient than variations in the past. Getting a God-Pharo's Gift out turn 4 is not rare. I still like keeping one Cataclysmic Gearhulk in the mainboard as a sweeper for the first game of the match in case things go seriously wrong.

I think you might be right doing this. I actually think about taking two Gearhulks into the Mainboard. Sometimes I don't want more life, but rather to swipe the board. I don't know tho, why the Gearhulks see no more play.

There was, but the Primer got archived. I am gonna do my best the next days to add sections. I just wanted to make a thread for a deck holding 7 percent metagame shares at the moment according to mttgoldfish.

    Hello party-people,

today I wanna talk about a deck I learned to love since I picked it up a couple of weeks ago. Full disclaimer: There were two, already archived threads about this variant. You can find them here and here.

Now some of you might not know it (yet), because it (only) got featured in the "World Magic Cup 2017" and was one of the winning decks. The japanese team won the tournament amongst other things through Kenta Harane maneuvering the deck with his gifted hands (see, what I did there?!). Anyways.
So, of course World Magic Cup is a special event - the format was "team unified" for standard and the rules of this tournament format are as following: "With the exception of cards with the basic supertype or cards with text that specifies otherwise, no two decks on a team may contain the same card, based on its English card title."

The teams had to divide the potential cardpool onto the three members and try to represent decks with different angles and UW Gift was able to facilitate onto this. Also it's important to mention, that closed metagames as Worlds in general tend to have different decks than open metagames.

But there are upsides to this deck. If you look at two sites comparing metagames for standard, mtgtop8 and mtggoldfish, the metagame consists 20 to 30 percent of Temur Energy variations and this deck **** on energy. Against other aggro-decks you just have to livelong enough to combo off. The only decks I felt unfavored were Pummeler variants when not playing properly or control and cycling. The thing is: If you encounter those you can still win by normal combat damage. Some decks try to hose your combo, while you kill them with normal combat damage. The mirror matchup is also quite interesting. The deck has so many angles you can play for. I am a passionate modern player and it was love at first sight. This deck proved to me the richness that standard can have. And last, but not least: who wants to see another boring energy mirror? We get it now, energy is broken! Let's combo.

    So in conclusion:

    Cons
    • Bad MU against Pummeler and Control
    • Skill heavy deck
    • Small mistakes can lose you games

    Pros
    • Good MU against Energy
    • Interesting and skill heavy deck, which does broken things
    • Most nailbiting games I had in while (won multiple times from one life)

At the moment I play Kenta Haranes decklist with a few modifications of the SB:

Some posts about the deck on the internet are here:

    And a SB-guide will follow.
    Have a nice day.

... [...] ... The 2-4 damage you will take off your mana base is often relevant, however, and I am surprised that the advantage of less pain from your mana base is not a larger part of this conversation. In many matches that could be the difference between killing Edilon with a grape shot and being to low to cast the spells.

I ran some tests online and one atleast half a dozen games with one or two life points. With a fetchless mana base you can sometimes squeeze one or more extra turns out of it. Especially when you can prolong your life with defensive grapeshots. As I enter into storm the first time in paper, I am gonna adapt the fetchless list and build the list from that on.

Hey, as I said I did some research and looked through my collection:

My playgroup allows for Proxies and is semi-competitive. I know it's kind of a stretch to bring this deck to them, but I really wanna play it. So my plan is to tone it down a little bit. I can play some expensive cards, but I need to cut the original duals and stuff like Candelabra from the proxies. It would be a huge thing if you can comment on my list. I am gonna build it over time to get better and better, but as it is now I only have the cards bought listed in the spoiler.

I saw a list on mtggoldfish, which looks appealing and could be used in my plagroup. I think it's power level is relatively high for its cost. List can be seen here. Suggestions for me for what to work on or if it really would be better to switch to Mizzix or Jace, the Vryn Prodigy are really appreciated (Please don't break my heart by suggesting this Frown )

Has anyone played the old Pascal Wagner list with 2 cryptic commands and the noxious manamorphose infinite to win with thoughtscour/inf bolts? Just wondering if its worth the negative card advantage for a higher ceiling on the deck.

You would have to change the manabase according. Mind posting a list? Also I always had the feeling that we somehow lose the ability to be a bit more grindy. Because let's face it: If you want to play combo, play storm Wink (But please try it and tell us how it works Smile )

On a random sidenote: I am not satisfied with the manabases you build with Spirebluff Canal. Sure, you lose a bit of the self damage, but I think the base is inappropriate for the deck. Some point this week I will try to write about it (involving math and featuring Frank Karsten)

Hey, I am building a Jeleva deck right now. Posting the cards I bought yesterday soon. As my playgroup allows proxys I will sleeve part of your deck up and proxy the rest. Its gonna be a mix of proxy and budget. Can you give me advice when I post a list what should go in and what not since I am fairly new to storm and edh?

If you build this deck with no 1 mana spells, a ton of 2 mana cost ramp, a hypergenesis, and big eldrazi, it could be interesting.

You can also put 1=cmc spells in. Cascade can cascade a cmc=1 spell into a cmc=0. So you cascade into Hypergenesis always if you cascade with a cmc=1. Now if you don't want spells with cmc=1 to get cast you would be right. You need to cut them to reliably cast Hypergenesis. But on the other hand wouldn't you want cmc=1 draw and sculpt spells.

Hey folks, I've been wondering if its worth it to play the full set of Spirebluff Canals instead of sulfur falls and a few fetches? I've been thinking about immunity to choke and a smoother manabase against Aggro is worth it, we cap out at 3-4 lands generally anyways

Those cards are heavily underplayed in modern. I wouldn't advise building around them. Also fetches thin your deck. I played with a overhauled mana base and it sucked balls. Fetched give you flexibility.

Wasn't able to buy it yet Frown But I wanna try a Cascade deck which goes nearly infinite with Palynchron and bounces to draw all your library and end the game.

I think Anger of the Gods goes GREAT with thing in the ice. It survives and gets a counter. Also, Anger can be copied with ascension for the big things. Arcbound ravager sac in response means that if you flip your thing they lose everything, and plating doesnt add toughness. Lords can be bolted to weaken the whole field for an anger. I am looking at trying 4 anger, 3 things. Want 4 anger for ascension triggering since it gets scoured or looted. I see anger competing with young pyromancer for a slot, not thing in the ice. Having 2 ways to clear a board is good.

The slot I am not sure about is where Myth Realized would go in for, or bedlam reveler. Should I drop faithless looting and adjust more to the white mana?

I am not sure. I am not sure if we can drop Faithless Looting because we need draw. Also I dont think that you need 3 Bedlams in the MB, you can also go 2 Bedlams. Also I don't run Remand anymore ... mhm. Not Sure about it.

I am wondering if dropping young pyromancer, and keeping thing in the ice would do well with 4 anger of the gods main instead? With no way to protect it I dont see pyromancer as strong because it floos late game and keeps us from wanting sweepers. But let me tell you how satisfying anger is with thing in the ice on board. Anger is even early enough usually to kill scavenging oozes. I havent tried reveler though, is he good enough to always want 2 mb?

Young Pyromancer definetely underperformed. Regarding Thing in the Ice and Bedlam Reveler. I don't like too much Revelers and I am not sure about Thing MB/SB and in which split either. The thing is (haha, punchline .. got it?): it blocks for 4 and when it flips it bounces the whole board. This is huge against Merfolk/Dredge/Robots. Of course Robots can refuel their board fast similar to Merfolk, but Dredge gets screwed a bit. Now we need to look what Thing provides that Anger of the gods doesn't do. Anger can't kill creatures over 3 toughness; considering the fact that Arcbound Ravager can sac a board in response to the trigger to get one or two creatures big and Cranial Plating gets simply too huge it is straight up similarly good as Thing on an undeveloped board and better than Anger postboard. Similar thing with Merfolk. When the lords pump the board above 3 toughness you are screwed plus the fact that Master of Waves and his elementals can get bounced, but you can't kill him with red burn spells. And Dredge gets totally screwed by bouncing their board onto the hand as they need to stop dredging for a second and throw their hands back into the GY to get their things back. All this things considered thing is more viable than Anger in my eyes as it also contributes to our plan and a 7/8 is nothing to laugh at. BUT, I do think that we only want 2 in the MB and 2 SB. Int he aggro MU I would bring them in, in the JUND MU or the mirror I would considering bringing them out and getting Path to Exile and the other Bedlams in.

But this are only my thoughts which might be wrong. Tell me your thoughts about it.

@Billiondegree: Sorry for mispelling your name. Also spicy URB list. Might give it a spin even though I think we lose too much life with this list at the moment. You wanna think of a SB too?

which deck? Grixis? I have played grixis delver as a loan from a person at my game store, and the tempo is just different from ours. We have lightning helix, they have snapcaster for their extra set of bolts instead. I would go to the main grixis delver thread for that.
If you meant my list, it is same as the one above, minus bedlam reveler and remand, and plus some mainboard anger of the gods and wraths, since I can't seem to get enough bolts to survive aggro decks.

Sorry man, I was mixing posts up from you and milliondegree. I thought you were milliondegree still talkin about a kind of grixis Ascension thing and wanted a list. But nevermind. My fault.

Regarding the Myth Realized list. It looks like the picture I attached to the post. But keep in mind: the mana is screwed at the moment - it needs to be more white/blueish. Gonna calculate it when I change the deck another time. Going forward with this list I would kick one myth realized out, maybe change the faithless lootings to Sleight of Hand, change the split between Young Pyromancer and Thing In the Ice, while kicking Thing in The Ice into the SB and think about one Bedlam in the SB as I drew them too much too early. Also I need to think about cards for the MB because if they are Instants/Sorceries we really would like 4 and not 3 or 2 Frown

As unperfect as it is, these is my current standing. Suggestions? Advice?

Grixis runs delver instead of ascension because it's a better deck for snapcasters. Collective Brutality loves snapcaster, but not really pyromancer's ascencion. IMO, I guess though. I seem to be unable to get ascension to work at all lately with all the graveyard hate, though. It's crept into some mainboards because of dredge being so tough to manage.

I have no problem with getting the Ascension online. Can you provide a list for such a deck?

Well collective brutality is fantastic vs burn since its removal, life gain, and discard all in one.

Afterwards you regain the lost card advantage with Bedlam Reveler (who by the way is absolutely crucial in the jund matchup to counter their attrition)

Bedlam Reveler is played in the JUND MU, atleast by me. I also play 2 or 3 MB depending on the meta. Regarding Collective Brutality: is the upside of the card being good enough that we want to lose all that whiote offers? While Collective Brutality can also reveal the opponents hand we must not forget that we already have a card that can do the same and cantrips: Gitaxian Probe. But I won't hinder you testing a version of it. To be honest I would like to embrace it. What would be your first version list?
