My 2 cents would have been to swap black for blue as a splash,

Apr 17, 2017Do you ever scroll through some random thread and see someone talk about how they would have held onto/bought a card worth money now (say... All Hallow's Eve) and look up the price and have an AYE CARAMBA! moment as you realize that you have some of them but aren't exactly sure what box of unsorted cards they are in...Posted in: Magic General

This with like Muraganda Petroglyphs & Imperiosaur
It would be nice to have no 'society'/ 'civilization' too. Have world where the most intelligent race are goblins or cavemen such. One step up from 'wild' animals. You could have planes walkers stumble across it and treat it as some kind of game preserve where they visit it but are sort of a vacation spot/down time. Or have some deranged hermit planeswalker defending it trying to protect from the other planeswalkers so they won't dispoil it of it's natural beauty.

- Archangel of Thune
- Garruk, Apex Predator
- Eidolon of the Great Revel
- Athreos, God of Passage
- Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
- Monastery Mentor
And then if you want to count the reprints of both Mutavault & Thoughtseize are still just over $10.
An exciting set does not that make.

Feb 28, 2017Just to muddy the water more ornithoper may have been a round for a while by "thopter" seems pretty much a Wizards thing. My point being Android is common use but "Driod" is actually trademarked by lucasfilms. Most of the time it is ok to use TM material if you don't make money. Ultimately at it can come down to a judge/the courts. We opened a business call Frost Bite Frozen Yogurt. We got a Cease and Desist from from Frost Gelato. Talked to a lawyer (@ $300) and long story short he said we could try fighting them in court and we might win and we might loose, but since we were a new business it would probably cost us more to fight then to get a new signs, shirts etc.Posted in: Artwork

So whenever you start to build out a new deck you need a place to start. Instead of just copying one deck to start from I collated data from 20 different decks from several different sites (all built since the start of the year) to try and get me what the 'average' deck was. This was to avoid using some deck as a starting point that was an oddball and it gave me an excuse to build an excel spreadsheet (hey what can I say I like spreadsheets). Anyway I thought I would share my findings for anyone else interested.
First thing you notice when you go through 20 decks is about 80% of the main deck is all the same. You also notice everyone wants to throw in a card that no one else does as a one of. Not sure if this is because they think smarter than anyone else or just want to say it's their deck and not a 'netdeck' or what. (It would be an interesting study to find out why people put a specific card in from a psychological aspect). This is just a few of the cards that showed up in the main in only 1 (of 20) decks. Sideboards are even worse; there were 28 different cards in twenty 15 card sideboards
- Elder Deep-Fiend
- Nissa, Vital Force
- Horizon Canopy
- Ratchet Bomb
- Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
- Warping Wail
Anyway on to the deck break down
Land counts ran from 22-24
Six Decks have 22 land
Nine Decks have 23 land
Five Decks have 24 land
If you count Birds of Paradise and Talismans as mana sources (Talisman of Progress or Unity) things group up a bit more.
1 deck at 22 "mana sources"
1 deck at 23 "mana sources"
12 decks at 24 "mana sources"
6 decks at 25 "mana sources"
Note: I didn't count Noble Hierarch since she was a 4 of in every deck. I was more interested in the variables
One of the 25 mana decks ran 2 birds and one ran 3 Talisman (the only decks to run those counts) so I think the 24 is the right/most accepted count.
So do you run Birds or Talismans?? They both effectively come online turn two, Birds can chump but you can pull a Talisman with a Stirrings in a pinch. Birds are easier for an opponent to deal with though. I think I am going to run birds to begin with since I have them already but certainly would like to hear people’s thoughts on Birds v Talismans.
Onto the lands specifically,
The standard base I found was..
4x Eldrazi Temple
4x Windswept Heath
3x or 4x Cavern of Souls
2x or 3x Yavimaya Coast
1x Temple Garden
Every deck ran those lands/counts.
That leaves aprox 2-4 'flex' spots depending on your Souls/Y Coast counts to fill with utility lands/birds/tailismans.
Some of the lands in those flex spots that were used and the number of decks that used them.
Ghost Quarter 11
Hallowed Fountain 10
Sea Gate Wreckage 7
Forest (2nd one) 7
Horizon Canopy 1
(Side thought, has anyone thought of running Gavony Township out of the Sideboard to bring out in mirror matches? I want my own super uber secret tech lol)
Every deck ran 4 ofs of the follow 4 creatures so I would count them as a given.
Decks ran between 24-27 creatures, pretty evenly splits, 5, 5, 4, 6] so that gives you another 8-11 flex spots.
Drowner of Hope was a 75 of 80 spots with only three decks not running 4 so you could probably count that as pretty close to an auto 4 of unless you had a really good reason not to.
Eldrazi Skyspawner was next with 51 out of 80, it was at least a 2 of in 18 of the decks. Nobody only ran only 1, Twelve decks ran 2 or 3 and six ran 4.
Matter Reshaper was next with 35 out of 80. It kind of was all over the place with three decks running 4 and eight running 0.
Eternal Witness was 13 out of 80 although it seemed if you were going to run it, run 2 as six of the seven decks w/ E Wit ran them ran as a 2 of.
Then there were a few Spellskite, Elder Deep-Fiend, and World Breaker one ofs to round out creatures.
I've lumped everything else into Other,
Every deck ran the following
Dismember was next as a 1 of in about 1/2 the decks
After that it quickly drops into a lot of pet cards like
all pretty much only in one deck.
Sideboards were pretty much all over the place. Here is a list of all the sideboards cards and the number of decks they showed up in. Finks seems kind of good but Sunlance and Krosan Grip seemed pretty random IMO. The one guy who ran Chalice ran it as a 4 of out his SB.
Stony Silence 16x
Stubborn Denial 16x
Blessed Alliance 16x
Natural State 16x
Grafdigger's Cage 13x
Disdainful Stroke 12x
Rest in Peace 10x
Engineered Explosives 9x
Elspeth, Sun's Champion 8x
Relic of Progenitus 5x
Unified Will 5x
World Breaker 3x
Tragic Arrogance 2x
Chalice of the Void 1x
Kitchen Finks 1x
Nature's Claim 1x
Drowner of Hope 1x
Eternal Witness 1x
Krosan Grip 1x
Nissa, Vital Force 1x
Pithing Needle 1x
So, after all of that number crunching this is what I plan to build out.
Any feedback is appreciated. Specifically your thoughts on
Birds v Tailismans
4 Eldrazi Skyspawner or 2/2 split with Eternal Witness
How does Matter Reshaper help advance the win, is it just a big cantrip?
Have a great day and may you be touched by his noodly appendage!

But to Tiemuuu point the recent posts have been more about Banning’s and RD and the crappy state X (Standard, Wizards, the Ozone hole, etc) and not how those banning’s (or the threat of future banning’s) affect prices. There isn’t well with X being banned in Standard what do you think is the long term price of it? Or do you think the threat of banning’s will affect card prices. There is a whole thread in the Standard section about banning’s as a general topic.
(I personally don’t care it’s not like this thread it flooded with posts as it is but I do see Tiemuuu point)
Aug 13, 2015Not really surprising but Ghostfire Blade & Ensoul Artifact have both roughly tripled in price over the past week or so (roughly $.50 to $1.50 and $1.20 to $4.50 respectively). I'm no expert but can Ensoul really maintain that kind of price?Posted in: Market Street Café Archive

Mar 9, 2015Thanks for all the feedback. I already have a case of RtR and 2 boxes of MM1. I just sold one box of MM and was looking to reinvest that money instead of wasting it away on stuff. I could get more RtR but was looking to diversify a bit. I'd rather stick with sealed product as it is easy enough to stick in a closet and leave as oppose to single cards.Posted in: Market Street Café
Mar 9, 2015As part of the MM2 Channel Fireball Release event you get a foil Griselbrand (along with a mat, sleeves, ect). Would that seem to indicate that he is going to be in the set? Do they ever give promo/foil cards of cards that are not in that set at an event?Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Mar 8, 2015I was looking at "investing" about $300 in sealed booster box(s). If it was your $300 Would you buy 1 MM2015 or 3 Fates or 3 Khans. $300 isn't going to make break my retirement so it's more just to try and make some extra cash that would probably by flipped in to more MTG at some point . So MM2015 will grow more (IMO) but will it grow @ 3x some other another set. Long term do you think Khans (fetches) or Fate (middle child syndrom) is better (or maybe even one from the Theros block)Posted in: Market Street Café

That Abzan one that comes with Ainok Bond kin and the Abzan Falconer seems a little unfair you've got 3 outlast creatures two of them 'lords' that's a good start to your deck.
Wanted to say thanks for collecting this info.

Jan 8, 2015Posted in: Market Street CaféQuote from thg »Quote from enzie »Unless you mean by selling those at cost, they are increasing sales elsewhere?
Yes, I am saying that by selling some cards at or near cost, a store owner may increase sales of other items (or business).
Think of the TCG player optimizer. If one store has all the items a particular customer wants, then the optimization is likely to direct the buyer to that store (rather than directing them to pay shipping to multiple stores).
If a LGS has lots of cards available, some customers are more likely to go there. I have definitely made my choice about where to play FNM based upon which store had a couple of cards I wanted to purchase. So, having inventory meant that I paid an entry fee. When someone goes to a store to play FNM, they might also buy food, or sleeves, or dice, etc.
So anyway, a store may get value from cards even if they are not selling them at a big markup.
I can attest to this. My local game store seems fairly large (FNMs regularly run 50-80 people) but i swear every time I try and buy a card from them they are out or only have 1 and I don't think I've ever been able to pick up any uncommon that is playable. Most of the time I don't even try anymore and just buy a playset online. I might only spend 20-30 a month on singles in a given month but I cant be the only one who goes there that has that same issue.
Jan 5, 2015Sure Wizards has to make crap rares, I get the whole power creep struggle.; but in a set that has a major Dragons theme, you would think a land specifically about Dragons, would be at least decent. Like people are saying this is more then likely not even playable in nearly any format.Posted in: The Rumor Mill

If you are going to go outside of Standard
Vines of Vastwood + Distortion Strike + Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest + 2 mana for double striking = 20.
You could run Mutagenic Growth if you didn't want to splash for green. Basically an Infect shell.

So far, we don't have any reliable way (as far as I know) in Standard to guarantee you have that Hydra on top of your deck when you manifest. If you're going to make a deck around this strategy you need a way to pull it off reliably, something like a Worldly Tutor reprint, which I'm sure we're not getting.
Courser of Kruphix would let you know it was on top (on color even!). It won't help you get Hydra there but it will let you know when it is.

I agree that Monastery Siege is probably the best and Palace Siege. Sure you get to 'keep' the creature but the whip's Life link is a huge part of why it is so good plus the 4 vs 5 Mana obviously. Maybe if there is some kind of a sac outlet you could abuse

I hate buying uncommons on-line but broke down and ordered a playset last night. (I know I bought a set of Thoughsieze but balked at buying at spending $5 on a set of bile blights, go figure.) Bile blights will clear all the death touching insects and such that were clogging up the board and make them start reacting to me instead of the opposite. May 18, 2013Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from DrendDragonspawnYou mean, just like ALL THE OLD LORDS?! What a shocker. The tribe-o-lords gets a new iteration, and *gasp* try got updated EXACTLY THE SAME WAY other lords did! Heart attacks and nerd rage everywhere. Seriously. The ONLY leg complainers have on this is the art, and that is blatantly subjective anyway.
I suppose they should make new Atogs to that pumps all Atogs instead of just themselves. I mean all the other Lords do so why make something different? Right and lets change their look from bug eye tooth things to fluffy ewok looking bear, but still call them atogs...
May 17, 2013Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from ty blitzerWe can get over the art one way or another. For me, I plan on just pretending there are tiny old style sliver inside these humanoid ones controlling them.
As for lazy tribal theme with the replacement of "all" with "You control" it is a bit of a different story. Honestly this is not true at least as far as I can see. If you played a new sliver deck versus and old style, which do you think would win? If you said new then you would be right, because the old style help the new while the new act like stuck up little kids that won't share. With the sliver ability, they have sewn up one of the major holes in that no longer is it possible for you opponent to use slivers against slivers. But then again like a lot of cards in spoilers, we will realize a cards true value only after the price goes up.
Just because they made them better/more powerful does not mean it still wasn't lazy. Slivers have been different in other lords because of the fact they pumped/affected all slivers. It was great fun to drop a plague sliver and watch it wreck your opponent. Previously in sliver v sliver you had to think, how much does this boost me team v my opponent? Now just drop and go. Why even bother calling them slivers? Now they can reprint every previous sliver but it's 'new' and not a reprint. What a marketing boon!
May 16, 2013It seems like changing "all slivers" to " slivers you control" is just a cheap/lazy way to reprint a bunch of cards with out them actually being reprint. Pretty much every sliver spoiled card has already been printed, they just changed it from 'all' to 'you control'.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
FWIW I don't like the new humanoid look either but that dislike is independent of what I feel is just a poor core set bunch of reprints.
Apr 13, 2013Posted in: Standard ArchivesQuote from xitauni dunno, what would be the point of splashing white? because it is not an easy task to splash fourth color, i think you should think about the goal. for example, i want to play supreme verdict bacause of meta issues, that is why i pondered between RUW, bant and esper (mana is good enough that i did not want the pure azorius, with few removal), and ended up choosing esper because of ultimate price on angel of serenity.
if you choose to play white, it should be for some good cause, actually making the deck better at something. if you take off constancy of the deck just to put some random good white stuff i don't think that would work. 3 colors is being hard enough for me...
White gives you access to Smiter, Resto A, S Charm, AtL. All good cards. Having access to both reconer and smiter for a turn 2 drop gives most aggro decks fits. Honestly I don't see why you would have trouble running 3 colors. Generally the only I trouble I had was getting a green source turn one for a dork or farseek. With pilgrim, farseek and arbor elf as long as I landed one I normally didn't too much trouble. Overgrown tomb & Kessig WR are the only lands that don't product reconer colors, so as long as you hit three lands you have an 80% + chance of casting it. I could see if you aren't running green it might be harder but farseek + shock can get you any color you want. The biggest issues I had was turn one G or turn 5 having 3 G for Garruk. I think tweeking the mana can fix that. Just my 2 cents.
Apr 13, 2013Posted in: Standard ArchivesQuote from DarkRitualWell, the first thing I notice is you probably should run at least 3 of each of the G/x duals... if not 4... because of Arbor Elf, because you actually need a Forest to untap... but also because of being able to drop mana dorks turn 1. Dropping that turn 1 into a Reckoner or Smiter is a big deal IMO.
You could probably take out 2 Rootbound Crag for 2 Stomping Ground, but then perhaps go the other way and take out all but 1 Godless Shrine, Blood Crypt and go with Dragonskull Summit so that you have about the same number of duals/checks.
I notice you have the Reanimator package in the deck. What do you tend to bring it out against?
Also... you mentioned the Caverns not working for you. Think those are worth taking out for more shocks/checks or could they stay in because they in theory tap for any color mana for your early game creatures?
I am planning on swapping the the Caverns out for a x/G land. More often the not I wished it was a stomping ground then a cavern. The unburials come in vs any kind of a control deck. They're there for the fun probably more then anything. It's great to bring in game two for the reconers and see the awkward look on their face when they mill an unburial. I usually don't have too much trouble with agro, my meta is like 60% aggro %20 mid %10 controlish. There are normally 30-50 players and I can normally make top 8/16 but have a hard time against some of the better plays who play control once they cut. So you need to be able to beat Naya Blitz etc. cause you will see a lot of them but then normally, once they cut to top x, the better players you run into are playing control so that why most of the sideboard is anti-control but main board is for agro.
Apr 13, 2013Posted in: Standard Archives
This is what I ran last night. Don't know if you want to call Dark Naya or Light Jund. I had two Caverns in but they were causing me more issues then they helped. I went 4-2. Most of the time I lost due it was due to mana issues so I know i need to rework the mana base. I have too many black sources and not enough green as it is now and I'll be cutting the Caverns for Stomping Grounds. Turn 2/3 Reconer or Smiter happens pretty consistently. My biggest issue was token swarms so I was thinking of adding Electrickery to the board. Aurelia's Fury always seemed Meh. It did help one match by tapping down an opponents creatures to allow me through but most of the time I drew one I just as soon have drawn an Olivia. I wasn't a beliver in Assemble but in the right match up it is a house. Any thoughts on the mana base would be appreciated. This is what I was running.

Apr 11, 2013Varolz, the Scar-Striped & Lotleth Troll & Blood Scrivener seem like they could have some good synergy between them.Posted in: New Card Discussion
Pitch cards with Troll, draw extra cards with Scrivener, reuse the creatures in the yard with Varolz.
Apr 4, 2013Posted in: SpeculationQuote from Ertai PlaneswalkerI haven't read the books, but going on what is described in the thread how about:
Legendary Creature - Elf Cleric
Token creatures you control have lifelink.
Choose and discard a land card: Put a 8/8 green and white elemental creature token into play. It gains haste. Sacrifice it at end of turn.
Short lived elementals, but powerful ones. And some healing through the lifelink. And really fits the guild.
Wow that seems way overpowered. Turn 3 an 8/8 hastey attacker (with a mana dork), sure you have to pitch a land but if they don't have a blocker pitching a land for 8 damage seems really good. Or turn 4 slap a rancor on it and you get a 10/8 haste trample.
Mar 17, 2013I've always found Armada Wurm underwhelming. Seems like I almost always would rather have a Angel of Serenity or even Sigarda. I've never played with Sorin, my 4 spot is already pretty crowed but I might try squeezing him in.Posted in: Standard Archives

You can run townships for the +1 effects and not waste the card slot. Also the +1 counters don't mesh well if you are using Resto Angel to. I ran him for a bit felt like Sasky said, there are just much better options at the three drop.
Mar 17, 2013I would think Electrickery would be better Giestflame as the overload seems more relevant later game then the flashback for secondary effect. I also wondered if maybe running Gyre Sage might help. It's turn two that can beat 1/1 and trade with 2/1 and if we have a 3 drop it becomes a 2/3 that beats alot of the early rush dudes. Haven't had a chance to play test it yet though.Posted in: Naya Midrange
Mar 17, 2013So my wife likes to by me the occasional booster when she it out shopping. Normally she knows enough to by what ever is the newest set out. There aren't any cards in particular I 'need' so I've thought about telling her to pick up RTR instead GTC next time. Just seems to me that there is more value (especially @ uncommon) and it's spread out more in RTR, while GTC has more of a hit or miss feel I.E you get a card $10-15 or crap.Posted in: Market Street Café
What are your guy's thoughts? Which set would you rather get a random booster from?
Mar 13, 2013Maybe I am missing something but how would this be better then either Garruk? Or Sorin or even thrag? I could certainly be wrong but to me this seems like this is a 5 drop that does nothing when it comes into play, and then nets 3 1/1 tokens over the next two turns. Seems under whelming. You can get 3 token from either Garruk over three turns, and they make bigger tokens, and have more options. If you want 1/1 guys play Lingering Souls, at least they fly. Maybe I am missing something, if the game goes 4-5 more turns you can start to get an advantage, but they are still only 1/1. Just about any creature they have can chump them all day.Posted in: Naya Midrange
Mar 12, 2013Posted in: Market Street CaféQuote from colesy4971Smiter is an undercosted, undiscardable, uncounterable 4/4 beater for 3, practically standard's Tarmogoyf, except it doesn't rely on graveyards (for better and for worse).
Personally I'm baffled they're so cheap and think they'll rise over time since people already know it's a solid card and sees play in modern hatebears.
Funny you say this. I had someone trying to convince me that Wight of Precinct Six was the 'Goyf of standard last Friday.

Mar 11, 2013If you find the right buyer certain cards will porbably command a bit of a premimun but I would think that general run of the mill cards woudl actually command less. I collect dragons and am always on the look for foreign language cards (keep me in mind when you get back!) or like Sparki and his Crucible of the Worlds. It's just trying to find the right maket is going to be smaller.Posted in: Market Street Café
Feb 25, 2013Spaghetti Monster posted a message on [[Official]] [GTC] Running Tally of highest priced cards. Updated: 11/20/14Also if you think about it, a lot of people bought boxes before release of GTC becuase of RTC value and scarcity so there was very likley a huge amout of pre-orderes which would lend to a higher volume sold at the very beggining of each set's life cycle. While people may be disappointed in what they have got an not bought any more the hype was there and carried over from GTC that poeple may have bought more initially.Posted in: Market Street Café

Threw this together yesterday afternoon. Went 3-3 FNM. Probably should have gone 4-2 but I made some bad plays that cost me at least one game. I almost always sided out slimes for Healers and or Abrupt Decay. Going to have 4 AB in the 75 and probably main 4 Healers next time.
He runs treetop bracers, that deathtouch snake and blood rush guys.
Note, his deck can be scary fast but does pitter out faster then other R/W/G deck. The blood rush can win a game but if you can get any kind of life gain going and manage to take out 1-2 of his guys not to bad.
I win 2-1
Game 1 Boros Reckoner is a pain, need to run more AB.
Game 2 Deck is fast but an early Healer bounced then unburial slows him enough for me to win
Game 3 goes long, I think I going to grind it out till he plays the R1 spell where you exile cards to do damage directed at Reckoner, I take 18 to the face
He wins 2-1
He mills or flashes guys back, I o-ring or when his guy gets to big ( the one who */* equals cards in your grave yard.
I win with 1 card left in my library
Game 2 ends at time.
I win 1-0-1
Pretty much the same as other Boros match, lose game 1 win game 2 lose game 3
He wins 2-1
Game 1 get Closet / Thrag going , keep through bests at him wind up winning
Game 2 3 guttersnipes me 6 damage every time he loots/whatever too much for me.
Game 3 he never draw a guttersnipe fairly easy win
I win 2-1
Game 1 he starts to fast can stabilize
Game 2 start to stabilize get gready and attack with smiter, forgot to add in the +1/+1 from the Mayor of Avarbruck and he does 10 on the attack back, I at 10 sad face
He wins 2-0
As you can see my meta is flooded with Rx aggro, no zombies to be seen and nary a control deck. Thinking of another Fiend Hunter or two. The whole cast, cloudshift, you lose two dudes, one permanently is great against aggro decks. Or even bouncing him to exile a guy middle of combat to pull one guy out of the attack is helpful. Think of moving at least two Rites to the board, they are two slow against agro, but a ton of help against other decks. Takes some use to playing it, but I think it has potential. Would think of going red instead of black for huntsmasters but Abrupt Decay is an all star, hate to lose it. Anyfeed back appreciated (yes I know there are 61 cards)
Feb 20, 2013You could combine certain collectible tribes (ie. Angles, Goblins, Dragons, etc) and try and trade/sell them that way. It might not be worth a ton but it might help out even a trade that is a couple $ short on your end or something.Posted in: Market Street Café
Feb 3, 2013Simic charm Seems like it could help us alot. All three modes seem relevant. The +3/+3 can help push through that last big of damage and/or save a creature from burn or save a blocked giest, the hexproof can saves creates and or enhancement, and the unsummon you can use before a battalion triggers or remove a blocker before he blocks which you cant do with Selesnya Charm or Azorius Charm.Posted in: Standard Archives
Jan 10, 2013Posted in: SpeculationQuote from ScarapThe problem is that it still doesn't do anything, and it's still in Pillar range for a full turn before you get a chance to evolve it.
It is a 2/3 that can safely block 2/x aggro dudes racing at your face until you get enough counters on it to drop your bomb you are ramping for. Certainly nothing outstanding or anything but it stall better then your 1/1 mana dork if you are trying to go more mid rangey. It may have it's place in in some decks, just not as a tradition 'ramp' dork. It can help early game against aggro better then a normal 1/1 can.

True I was thinking the same thing, but in most situation I still think Lighting mauler would still be better. It even curves better (2 drop to 3 drop vs 3 drop to 3 drop)
Jan 7, 2013Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Elite_InquisitorBecause they speak to the demographics of people who play the game. Which kid doesn't think Jace is uber-cool, Chandra and Liliana are fantasy hotties, Garruk is your badass Conan-like barbarian? It's only white that gets the shaft, between Gideon and Ajani. Competitive players will mostly care about the game effect they bring, be they named Liliana, Cindy or Barbara.
I can see it now, Cindy, the 20 something girl in accounting from Broklyn who sees herself as a weekend 'wiccan' has her spark ignite and starts a new life adventuring in the multiverse (coming to a theater new you this summer)!
