High Priest of Penance's ability triggers once for each instance of damage dealt to it. The ability will trigger even if High Priest of Penance is dealt lethal damage.
This is incorrect. Because the High Priest's ability is "whenever ~ takes damage" it only cares about the timing of the damage. The High Priest of Penance is taking damage from two sources, but all of the damage is being dealt simultaneously, so it is considered a single event.
So, what makes it different is if in the ability's detail written "a source dealt damage..."? If the priest has that ability detail written then he will be able to destroy those 2 creatures, am I correct?
Man... I'm hoping to find a mass destructor creature that can be boosted with Valor Made Real. Am playing white & black modern and still searching...
So, as an example, if I use High Priest of Penance and I target him with an instant like Valor Made Real, then use the priest to block 2 creatures, will I be allowed to destroy 2 nonland permanents after the damages have been dealt to the priest?
So, I've been looking for the answer but still nothing. Either I'm confused how to write the thing in the search or there really is still no thread for this...
I'll start by giving an example:
I have a creature in the battlefield that is given an enchantment (or something else) that makes it able to block more than one creature. Then, an opponent declared 2 attackers to me, and I choose that one enchanted creature to block them.
Now the question is:
Will my blocking creature be dealt one damage (the attacking creatures' damage are counted as a whole one damage at once/at the same time) or will it be dealt 2 damages (the damages from the attacking creatures are counted separately/in order, and not at once/as a whole one)?
So that's how it is...
I like that kind of card but ugghh... Kinda "complicated". Still interesting. I need to do a guessing in a card game, haha.
Then, the only thing I could do is view my opponent's deck before the game started (before shuffling) and only if it were allowed by the opponent his/herself. Well, consider I'm up against my friend and he/she allowed me to do so, that's fine, isn't it?
Hey, I'm new here. I've read several posts from this web as my reference from time to time. I'm still a kinda new MTG player, and it appears that my question still hasn't been asked here.
So, here's my question...
Okay... so here I'm a MTG Modern format player who plays white and black deck with lifelink as my main play style, but also with other few card types to support my lifelinking. One of em is the "Name a Card". I have Stain the Mind (I like the convoke)and Infinite Obliteration. I use those cards against my friends to get rid of their possibly troublesome cards. However, I find it kinda difficult if I don't know what cards they've put in their deck for the play beforehand. I mean I can't name a card which doesn't even played, right? Or if I could, and I just randomly blurt out a name which actually doesn't played, it would be useless. For the least, I can only name a card which has been casted or went to the graveyard even though I still can't get rid of the one that is already on the battlefield (like creature, enchantment and artifact).
So, my point is I wanna get rid of any threat before they can be casted/touch the battlefield, but what should I do that if I don't know what's inside my opponent's deck before the play started?
Is it really okay if I view my opponent's deck before the play? Especially in a tournament situation. I've read some posts said about some kinda "permission" but still confused. Is it actually a legal thing to do? Of course aside from forcing it or doing it from the shadow.
OR could I just ask my opponent to show his/her hand then check his/her deck before casting the "Name a Card" card? This is when the game is already started. After all, the "Name a Card" cards make the opponent to shuffle his/her deck eventually after they are casted, right?
So, what makes it different is if in the ability's detail written "a source dealt damage..."? If the priest has that ability detail written then he will be able to destroy those 2 creatures, am I correct?

Btw, thanks for the answers so far.

I'd really appreciate your answers.
