i wanted to make known a situation i encountered this weekend at scg stl. when i showed up to the event and went to pick up an order (which had been setup for event pickup at scg stl) i had placed i was told that they didnt have my order with them. after a brief explanation of what probably occurred, and how it had happened to around 15 other players as well, i was less than pleased. considering a few of the cards i had ordered were intended for my legacy deck for play this weekend i was even less happy. the sales attendant that worked with me (david beckner) was extremely apologetic, helpful, and understanding in dealing with the situation. he allowed me to vent and then took the time to come up with the best solution possible. that solution was to give me the choices of 1) refund my money, 2) fulfill the order to the best of their ability with the stock on hand, 3) shipping my order to me along with a refund for the cards shipped as a form of making amends (the refund part ended up being removed from this option), and 4) a mixture of the previous 3.

now those were all options with differing pluses and minuses. for starters i didnt want a refund, i wanted the cards i purchased. as for option 2, the problem was quite a few cards that i ordered were extremely niche or just werent stocked onsite. option 3 had the problem of not giving me the cards i needed to play in this weekends events. all around the options were an effort to make things right, but at the same time the options didnt do enough. i know, at that stage of the game there wasnt much they could do, but how does this problem even happen. i get that an order might slip through the cracks from time to time, but 15 or more orders getting forgotten?

again, i would like to mention how helpful and professional mr. beckner was in helping me through this situation. with my order list in hand he was able to put as much of it together from the on hand stock as was possible. i also chose to have the rest of the order shipped as well as i still want the cards i purchased. unfortunately this cost me the ability to play in this weekends legacy events. while working through the issue i missed the cut off for the legacy side event and while i was able to get most of the cards i needed, there were multiple one ofs that were unavailable leaving my deck incomplete and keeping me out of the legacy event tomorrow as well. i can only be thankful for the fact that i live locally as i can only imagine how bad this situation would have been if i traveled any amount of distance for this event as many do.

all in all this has been an extremely unpleasant experience. i appreciate the effort that was made in improving the situation and in the damage control. star city is known for their excellent customer service and i think they tried their best in this situation, but i still question how this could happen in the first place, and not just to one person, but multiple people. its nice to see the effort made in correcting the situation, but i would have preferred to see that effort put forth in keeping the situation from happening at all.

I don't think he is, it was probably just an example of a not very threatening creature you could play very early.

correct. just an example of a 1 mana 1 power creature.

...this topic seems dumb because you attack to win. Period.

ok, but you most likely arent winning the game with a 1 power creature attacking on turn 2. so what is the reasoning behind the attack? i feel its a valid question if for no other reason then trying to understand why people choose the attacks the way they do.

what are some reasons to attack players in edh. I know there are obvious answers like 'to win the game', but an attack on turn 2 with your fugitive wizard can hardly be described as a game winning move. so what is the reason for the attack and what are the reasons for choosing who to attack? I think there can be many layers to this questions answers and im curious to see just how many different reasons there are. So, when attacking how do you choose your target? Feel free to take different board states or other in game happenings into your reasoning.

i have over 600 bog hoodlums, around a 75 of which are foil or foreign. out of the 600 almost half have been signed or altered by people i have played against over the past few years.

They are selling for $25 for 55 cards, so about $0.50 each but need to sell bulk. Obviously thats well above what it costs to make these. It's using an offset printer so the costs are basically cheap for bulk, meaning the most cost is setting it all up etc.
i was actually curious about the individual cards. like how much is a counterfeit goyf being sold for or a counterfeit force of will? are they being sold as much as an authentic card or are they noticeably cheaper?

Sorry your experience with the use of MLD has been negative. I, on the other hand, have never seen it used except when the player casting it was in a position to win the game if it resolved. Both examples are totally anecdotal, though.

In any case, I think your choice to go on playing without the MLD player is incredibly childish. If you can recover well enough to go on playing for second place, you can recover well enough to try to fight back against whoever cast MLD. If you can't, well then he won. Not just in some arbitrary "we're going to keep playing lolol" way, but in the actual he won the game way. Just scoop, shuffle, and draw a new 7. Geez.

we continue the game as if the mld never resolved. everyone still has their full resources available to them, but instead of a group of 4 or 5 sitting around not being able to play, its just one person.

i could be mistaken here but dont most people who sit down to play a game of magic do so to play a game of magic. by using mld you are taking away the most basic principle of the game, use lands to play spells. if you are no longer able to play spells you really arent playing the game anymore are you. by playing mld you are essentially making the game unplayable which is the opposite of what most people want. as others have said, if you can win the game in the next turn or so after your mld its not as bad. but if takes you more than 2 turns to end the game then its a pretty trollish play regardless of how you try to spin it or rationalize it.

as for comparing mld to counterspells, well no. in almost all situations counterspells are a 1 for 1 trade. in a 4 player game a counterspell is still a 1 for 1 trade. with mld you are affecting everyone, in a negative way i might add. there is a big difference between counterspell guy picking off occasional spells on the stack and mld blowing everyones lands away. sure, it sucks having your important spell countered, but guess what, next turn you get to cast another spell. when all the lands are blown up you may not get the opportunity to cast another spell the rest of the game. very different things and to try to compare them is wrong. its almost as bad as comparing apples to alligators.

as for comparing mld to board wipes, well thats a bit closer, but its still fundamentally different. as before, mld prevents you from playing the game. sure you could argue that without any creatures you have been prevented from playing the game, but you still have the resources to play them as you draw more. mld removes your resources to play the game.

at the end of the day mld removes the ability for players to play the game. most people have more fun being able to play the game than sit there and not play the game. while you can argue the validity of mld as a strategy, in a more casual setting, which edh is, it is mostly used as a trollish maneuver that in my experience rarely does anything positive. its no wonder that its frowned upon and disliked by most.

now i have found one surefire strategy for deal with mld trolls and it has worked to such an extent that mld has left our playgroup completely. the method i put forth with our group is when someone plays their mld the rest of us concede the game to that player. however we continue on with the game playing for 2nd place. after a few times where the mld player got to sit and watch us play for another 2 hours they stopped playing mld spells. we havent had an issue with mld in our group since and our games are all the better.

Same crap with the gal that was invited to some big tournament recently. People making such a big deal because she was a girl and not because she was a good player.

i think the issue was many were upset because they felt she got the invite solely because she was a woman. the feeling was that there were many in the community that had done and do more, had better tournament successes, and had a larger magic persona, but she was chosen simply because she was a woman. yes, she does have some credentials in regards to the game, but not close to the ones held by the many others that were overlooked.

this. too often i see someone who is has nothing to lose cast a top decked obliterate or catastrophe just to stick it to everyone else. if its not going to help you win or lock up the game, dont cast it. why ruin everyone elses game?
