Oh nice! Congrats on the finish.
I would appreciate a report but it's not a big deal. I'll see if I can get a reddit set up.

Hey fellow Grixis Delver players! I just published my Modern Competitive League playlist for my updated Grixis Delver list. Please don't hesitate to check it out here: Click Me! Also, if you're interested in last week's straight Grixis Delver list, Click Me!

Each match is against a different deck, so watching them all will help veteran and new players alike understand how good/bad the deck is against some of the decks in the current meta. If you liked it, please let me know here or on the videos so I can produce more of these Grixis videos for you, hopefully updating the deck as I go along to try to tune the deck!

Hahaha, I asked tailz this same question about a week ago. I'll get my list posted in a bit. Last week was my first FNM with his list that i made a few tweaks to and went 3-1 placing top 8 in a 26 man tournament.

Went 3-0-1 today. Split 1st with my cryptic delver list.

    Round 1 vs Goryo 2-1
    He let a delver stick.

Round 2 vs sultai control 2-0
Ancestral out of the board grinds through 3 Liliana.

    Round 3 vs infect 2-0
    RIP probe.

Round 4 vs mono w hate bears/taxes. ID
Thank God we drew koz he had a lot of blade splicers and restos >.<

Solid day overall. Went back to 3 Cryptic.

I went 3-1 last Thursday at my weekly modern with a list very similar to yours with the tar pits and 3 cryptics. It might have just been the night, but the deck ran almost flawlessly.

    Round 1, affinity. 0-2.
Etched champion is a difficult card to deal with when you don't own any EE.

    Round 2, Sun & Moon. 2-1
Played the slow, control game. Countering the untimely blood moons and kommanding his chalices.

    Round 3, Jund. 2-0
Sided out delvers and went for the control late game. Crashing in with tar pits won me both games.

    Round 4, B/W eldrazi & taxes. 2-0
Again, delvers came out and I went for the control build. Won game one on the backs of turn 2 and turn 3 flipped delvers. They won me the game in game 1, but I figured if I lost game 2, I could side them back in. Game 2 was won with a turn 2 Tasigur he couldn't path through my counters.

Overall I loved how the deck felt. Cryptic was an all star as well as the two countersqualls. The 2 damage from them is relevant.
Thanks again 9tailz for the help.

I'm glad the deck is working for you! How many lands, creatures and spells are you running? From my previous post, I think I said I was running 21 lands.. I bumped it up to 22, and dropped a tasigur. I'm at 22 lands, 12 creatures and 26 ways to still flip delver. My mb counterspell package is now 3 cryptic, 2 leak, 1 squall and 2 snare. That's about it for changes from my side. I'm also tempted to bump up to 3 kommand...

I'm at 21 lands, 2 of which are Creeping Tar Pit.
    13 creatures, 3 Tas, 1 angler and 1 v clique.
26 instants and sorceries. 3 cryptics, 2 kommand, 2 fatal push and 2 terminate. I do not like murderous cut in this deck. I feel it taxes the delve and graveyard too much.
    1 countersquall, 2 snare, 1 remand and 1 leak.

    Thanks for the reply, Tailz.
I like the look of that list. I might have to give it a shot. I have yet to try any cryptics MB yet and haven't found a way to work AV into the SB.

9tailz, have you got the deck list for your cryptic delver build? I'm interested in a build like that. I currently run an Overturf style, but would like to lean closer to a classic control build... Even though Overturf's is more controlling.

Don't forget one of the most overlooked elements of Grim Lavamancer: it lets you kill Tasigur with just Bolt.

That's very true. I hadn't thought about that.

Hey rogue, great write up. I've been on grixis delver ever since twin was banned and love it.
But I'm very intrigued by your Esper list. My one thought is it doesnt have a lot of counter magic. My idea was maybe cut 1 push and 1 path, and add 1 more leak and 1 snare. But I also play an Overturf style of deck.
Thanks for starting the primer. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread.

I swapped out ugin, the spirit dragon for steel hellkite so far i'm finding the switch worked out just fine. I get repeatable EE effect on part with ugins board wipe ability.

biggest motivation for the switch was that treasure mage can tutor hellkite, but not ugin. A 6cc artifact board wipe of some sort would be ideal and so far only steel hellkite seems to fit that nich.

I've seen Contagion Engine, but thats not an ideal sort of board wipe.

    Anyone else tried hellkite?

I literally just made room in my list for the hellkite. We'll see how it works out but I'm hopeful. Hellkite used to be used more regularly until Ugin and a few other tools became available.

PLEASE DON'T PLAY CYCLONIC RIFT IN THIS DECK! BAD CARD IS BAD. ALWAYS PLAY UGIN INSTEAD!
    Why not both?

because Cyclonic Rift is just a terrible card. It's card disadvantage, and it takes up space in the deck that can be used for better cards. Usually people with unoptimized lists play Rift instead of Ugin (which is what Shoktroopa always seems to do), and that is completely wrong.

So you found one szenario where rift is lack luster congratz. There are probbly enough examples for rift to buy critical time to win the game, I am just to lazy to search. Card-disadvantage our deck can compensate for with 4 TFK Wink

I'm going to have to disagree about cyclonic rift being a terrible card. I have won various matches against merfolk and elves by casting an overloaded cyclonic rift either during combat or end step, making them discard 5 or more cards before passing the turn. I find it very valuable and will always have atleast 1 main board... It not another SB.
But I do agree with Ugin being bonkers in this deck. I MB one of him as well.

I don't make it out to AB often to play. But we'll see.
Edge is pretty fun. Really laid back, but a lot of aggro decks. No burn, but plenty of other fairly budget decks. GR tron is the deck to beat.

I figured. I didn't know there was another U tron player in this area. I mostly play at Edge of the world though. Hardly ever go to AB, but the past few Thursdays and at the GPT, GB was tearing it up.

So Ad Nauseum has been getting very popular in my meta, winning the last few tournaments. Is it a favorable matchup? I've never played it personally, but I'd think with our amount of permission we should have some good play against them.

Just curious if I should be worried or not, I have pithing needle side which I know can stop lightning storm.

The Ad Nauseum player is also exceptionally good.

Also on a side note, I have two foil chalice of the void, and thanks to the colorless eldrazi deck at the pro tour they just went from $30-$80 tcg mid woo! And yay, 400 pages! We did it!

Are you referring to GB at Addictive?

I wouldn't take out the recalls. Affinity is a rough matchup for us, and I feel we need all the help we can get against them.
