I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but the ability to search for just hybrid cards would be useful. i was disappointed to find out >c!h< doesn't work.

I had my first deck built for me by a friend for $5. It was a very loosely focused Golgari deck with a Patron of the Nezumi and a Nantuko Blightcutter. The only 4-of was a set of Ravenous Rats. Even nowadays, I'll see a Golgari Rotwurm and remember my first few weeks of playing Magic. Man, that was a fun deck.

Don't forget ripple! It deals with Surging Flames too!

Double Negative doesn't actually counter the cascade ability, but rather, when Bloodbraid Elf is cast, the cascade ability goes on the stack on top. You let cascade resolve, and another spell, maybe Blightning or Putrid Leech, ends up on the stack on top of Bloodbraid Elf. At that point, you play the Double Negative countering both the Bloodbraid Elf and whatever it cascaded into.

Cascade, ripple and storm don't trigger when the spell resolves, but rather when it is played, meaning any copies/extra spells get put on the stack on top of the original spell, ready to all get countered by a Double Negative or a Swift Silence.

Not sure if this has been reported, but in the Art Game Impossible, the picture is sometimes replaced with the word, "secret". When I reload, the picture is back again. Other times, I was presented with a blank page (i forget if the bar across the top was still there or not). Once again, reload fixed the problem. I'm using firefox if it matters.

Regardless, missing one in 20 pictures isn't a bad deal for a fun activity like the art game. Suggestion: more game modes - most notably it would be cool to play it by block or by set. i'm not sure if this is feasible, but if you could allow people to narrow the cardpool down on their own, with the advanced search function, it would be fantastic (i'm not crazy about having core sets singled out, while other useful searches - by artist, only creatures, etc - aren't available).

  • posted a message on Anyone here listen to the blues?
I end up listening to a lot of artists that combine Blues and Rock - Mostly Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers Band, and the like. It's great music though... nowadays, you never hear the same kind of soul that Duane Allman and SRV played with.

And for the record, I'm 17. I'm a bit of an anomaly - all my music is 10+ years older than I am...

Time Bomb by the Dave Matthews Band... and next up will be Baby Blue...

meh, not sure if I'm a fan of the Dave Matthews Band. Apparently people have compared them to the Grateful Dead, but they don't seem that similar to me. The band seems decent, but for some reason, Dave Matthews individually annoys me. Whatever.

    Instant - Trap
If a permanent has been exiled from under your control this turn, you may pay :1mana::symw::symu: instead of paying ~'s mana cost.
Exile up to two target permanents. Return them to the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step.

    EDIT: Sarnath'd... thinking...

    Goblin Neurosurgeon BBR
    Creature - Goblin Wizard
Exile your hand: Goblins you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. Play this ability only once each turn.
Sacrifice three Goblins: Draw a card. Play this ability only whenever you could play a sorcery.

A bad idea I had while playing Magic with my friend:

    Simic Assault :symg::symug::symu:
    Enchantment
Discard a land card: Put three +1/+1 counters on target creature.

My goodness. A lot can happen in 20 hours or so...

Thank you, HGaramond, for completely hijacking this thread.

I didn't read through the entirety of what was posted here, but from what I can see, there's just been a lot of talk about what would make for good wedge ultimatums. Suggestions about your cards have been made, stuff that other people have already thought up has been brought up, and suggestions on how to improve all of the above have been made as well. From what I read, the general sentiment is that you shouldn't adhere too tightly to the design of the wedge Elder Dragons, but rather focus on what all of the colors do.

That said, although this discussion is healthy, maybe we should try to bring it back to the original topic a little bit. Are there any changes that you've thought of, blackpoe, now that everyone has given you there two cents (or twenty cents, as the case may be)?

I was mildly intrigued by the word cloud things in today's arcana, so tried plugging some stuff into wordle. I thought for a minute, and settled on the most interesting thing I could come up with to put through it. I copied the comprehensive rules, took out the irrelevant introduction and the copyright stuff at the bottom, fiddled with the colors and the font, and ended up with this. I just found it interesting. (More common words are bigger - I guess it's not too surprising that it seems to be Player > Ability > Rule > Creature...)

  • posted a message on A weird plane idea
Regardless of how the rules behind this work, I see a problem arising whenever you played with a single stack. Most of the time, the plane stays on top of the planar deck. I can just see casual multiplayer playgroups trying to figure out the rules behind this like you guys are, getting all frustrated, and banning the plane.

I can't really think of anything productive to say about the first two cards, but I absolutely love Sessos. Like WUBRG said, don't change a thing!

I like it. Perhaps make it only target an opponent (how exactly would one interrogate oneself?) Abusable with Peek (arguably, a good thing :p).

    Hmmm... a couple wording issues...

Ultimatum of Vengeance: I'm pretty sure the sacrificing of the creature should be an additional cost to playing the spell. Yeah, this isn't a fantastic card. At it's best, it's an expensive Wrath. It could be more interesting if you gained life equal to the damage, but that would still be a little underwhelming for seven colored mana.

Ultimatum of Dreams: With the current functionality, it should read, "Search your library for up to five nonland cards (why nonland?) and exile them face-up (why do they have to be revealed?). You may play those cards without paying their mana costs as long as ~ is in your graveyard (why the last restriction? where would the ultimatum go from the graveyard?) A tutor effect like this is actually quite powerful... Brilliant Ultimatum doesn't really see play, but you usually get about 2 spells out of it, and they're random ones off the top of your library. I'd restrict it to tutoring for 3 cards.

Ultimatum of Harvest: This one doesn't work with the current functionality. You have to choose the targets as you cast the spell, before stuff is discarded. How about this: "Each opponent reveals their hand and discards all creature cards in it. Put those cards onto the battlefield under your control." That would also bring it to a more interesting power level.

Ultimatum of Devastation: The wording works. I guess it's pretty powerful effect, but it shouldn't be format-warping or anything. It works.

Ultimatum of the Hunt: It might be fine as-is, but the wording might need to be "For each creature you control, put X +1/+1 counters on it, where X is that creature's power." This one's power level is decent as well, and the casual-multiplayer player in me kinda likes it.

I know the cards are based upon the dragons, but I wouldn't be afraid to mess with the names of the ultimatums. "The Hunter" wasn't a fantastic title in the first place, but "The Hunt" really has little to do with what the card actually does. Don't be afraid to deviate a little bit more from the designs of the original dragons as well; they're elder dragons, meaning they are wise/cruel/cunning rather than just big and dumb like some other dragons, meaning they're probably capable of doing a little bit more than, say, dealing 3 damage to every nonwhite creature. Interesting designs nonetheless.
