Bad luck, but that was the match for the T8 and next round I got tortured by having to play the mirror in 3 and the round took a hour and a half. He plays so slow and couldn't count, either could the judge. I won the match becuase I made him loose to his Pact of Negation, which I do not play in the mirror. Fun tournament and I love the shop in Madison.
There were lots of problems with this fiasco...for starters *someone* should have got a warning for slowplay somewhere during that sequence...also the spectators were a bit ridiculous. It isn't the judge in question's job to count, but no one was really helping matters, furthermore both players took a long time (45 seconds to a minute) to pass priority during this exchange. Admittedly you were quicker in your actions and your opponent was not keeping up with his mana or storm count properly...that said this was an entertaining ordeal to watch...:)
I was doing a search for some cards earlier and stumbled across this one that is still standard legal...Desolation Giant. Honestly he's in two great control colors and casting a wrath with a 3/3 body has always seemed like a good idea to me. I think the fact that only allied colors are achieving sucess right now is part of this...he just doesn't have a deck to go in currently but I think it's a very powerful card that could be taken advantage of.
Thats pretty awesome, playset of Foil Tarmogoyf, heh. I really should not complain about the expense of Magic, it is a known factor of the game, although I do think Tarmogoyf hit epic proportions. Every time I save up to buy them, I get bogged down buying another card; then another card; all of which are worth owning. Rant-over.
Anybody know a good way to find reliable FNM or other playtesting groups around them? Ever since I came up to college MWS has become more and more of the standard
you were right hoss, i forgot the black sources. i edited the post. also i could sideboard the eyeblights. does anyone side damantion? i know its a no-no when you are running aggro but it might not be a bad idea here. wipe the board, take the creature you championed and attach the axe to him and attack. just a thought.
While having the axe makes the deck resilient to damnation I don't think adding it to the deck to take advantage of this is the right way to go. I am a fan of Sudden Spoiling as it can also turn off the Reveilark combo (creatures with no abilities don't loop :D) and can act as a one sided wrath or give you the right trample damage to get through FTW. Currently I'm running 2 main and 2 sideboard.
Given your edits see my post above for revised suggestions.
4 treetop
3 mutavault (i know, i only have 3)
2 pendlehaven
13 forest
what does everyone think????
I prefer Nameless Inversion to Eyeblight's Ending. You have eleven 3 drops and eight 2 drops not counting the Inversion/Eyeblight's dilemma. It's a matter of personal preference I think but NI works out best for me and costs 1 less mana...both you can reveal for Gilt-Leaf Palace so that's not an issue.
Ideally we want to max out on Chameleon Colossus as he is one of the most serious threats we can drop. Without messing with the integrity of your deck too much I would suggest the following changes:
Packmaster is good but I find more than 1 in my deck is inviting my opponent to 2 for 1 me, plus Colossus is just better. You can side the spare Packmaster for the mirror if you're a fan of the deathtouch wolves.
Losing a Profane Command here I recommend because it brings you down to "win now" cards with 2 profane and 3 overrun. Adding the 4th wayfinder is crucial for ensuring the 4th land drop. He seems underwhelming but after I played a few games with 2 I never found I wanted a different card so I have upped him to 4 as I was advised earlier. If you like the Command's versatility I would go down to 2 Overrun and 3 Profane. This could be the right choice as Profane is more versatile than the Overrun.
Needle isnt an answer against reveilk because they are running venser and cloudskate so they can bounce it back. The best you can do is to try to race them with your hasty warrior.
Good point guys no need wasting cards that won't help you run your own plan.
For my own part I do run Sudden Spoiling and it's pretty effective in turning them off...that's not too invasive on the aggro plan as it serves the dual purpose of being a one sided wrath as well.
I would take out the single cloudthresher for the 4th colossus. I would also find a way to max out civic wayfinder. Maybe remove the shreikmaw? Depending on how black your meta is of course.
I could easily switch the boarded colossus for the cloudthresher. I want to keep 4 threshers available though as I expect a decent amount of faeries to be running around.
I've debated shriekmaw, but i expect lots of other warrior decks which he excels against.
For the mg version how do we sideboard VS revilark?
Hard to say without knowing your sideboard but off the top of my head your options are: Pithing Needle (set to entity so they can't go off), Tormod's Crypt (not an optimal choice), or Lignify to turn off the mirror entities as well.
This deck took fourth out of 92 players in an amateur side event for $2k. I'm a fan of the sweeper plus tutor (primal command) approach it uses to take control and find answers to matchups. Discuss...
But if you're playing mirri and battle axe you're playing a different deck. ;]
And you DO NOT scoop vs. them. I've seen too many people that play mana ramp play molten disaster still and have it come down a turn too late, and this is why I play sulf blast. Basically you just play like you would against a wrath based control deck, just play around the wrath and don't overcommit.
I wasn't suggesting that you scoop. Merely that maybe the sideboarding options aren't there and that I was overthinking the matchup.
If you're playing against a deck with fertile ground you should win anyway. Fertile ground is AWFUL, and should not be maindecked IMO over wall of roots. Thoughtsieze is very good vs. mana ramp as long as they only have 1 problem spell in their hand. If you can thoughtseize the accel away and they only have 2 lands in their hand that gives elves a HUGE advantage.
And Sulf blast kills garruk alot of times when you don't expect it so watch out. :]
I see your point about fertile ground it's probably not enough of an auto-include to play a sideboard strategy based against it.
Elvish Champion...Forestwalk FTW? ...this brings us back to the debate of how bad it is to give their colossus forestwalk though. And there aren't enough individual creatures to warrant forestwalk as a plan though Mirri is good in the Battle Axe version it's not a reliable plan by any means.
Maybe we just concede this is a tough match up and just play around mass removal.

Conceding that something is a tough matchup is different than conceding a game/match.;)
Does Prowess of the Fair still have a SB place in elves or does it get tossed out the window now?
