I was hoping for help or resources on Legacy Cube. I used to do powered, but my playgroup found a lot of the combos to be too much for their taste. They prefer longer games and fewer obscene interactions than Vintage Power.
GENERALLY: I'd love thought from anyone on what archetypes or cards shine in Legacy.
SPECIFICALLY:
(1) I wonder what role artifact synergy can play in Legacy;
(2) I struggle with filling my blue section without so many legacy-banned cards; and
(3) I would love any feedback on card selection so I can balance my colors and cut to 450.
(4) I would love thoughts on Green Aggro in Legacy.
Looking to take my 540 Legacy Cube down to 450. Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, most of the community seems to build around Vintage/Powered. Any insight into cards that may be better in Legacy would be very helpful!!!
Makeshift Mannequin is really only in there for the interaction with Eldrazi. My group finds that fun. I used to run Corpse Dance and Shallow Grave, but I really wasn't a fan of the "top card in graveyard" wording.
I think it's better than the vanilla Lion variants. Having a 3rd toughness allows it to attack into more congested boards, and the interaction with fetches is quite powerful.
Yea, good point. I was only thinking about potential as a 4/5 turn 2, but you're right a 2/3 on turn 2 is a big upside against early board presence.
Not currently running Steppe Lynx. I'd love to hear how it compares to other 1CC drops from those who have play-tested. I run 630 and currently have 10x 1CC white drops (listed below). I plan on cutting Raise the Alarm to make room for an 11th, considering Steppe Lynx, Savannah Lions, or Expedition Envoy.
I'm with wtwlf on the Putrid Imp > Carrion Feeder statement. They both can play a decent role in aggro, but I do prefer the reanimator upside of the imp to the pox upside of the feeder.
Putrid Imp isn't even good in reanimator. The only deck it's even borderline in is with Haakon.
Discarding a card is a significant cost. Flying on a 1/1 dork is not worth a card, so without the whole point being to get said card in the yard, this is just garbage.
Carrion Feeder is much better than that. Next to nobody tested Outpost Siege here. It's really good. Try it. Blood Artist? Not in any cubes here. It's crazy. Try it. Goblin Bombardment in the same deck? Completely nuts.
Even without a dedicated sacrifice deck, carrion feeder is playable. It turns all your dudes that were going to die anyway into +1/+1 counters. It's sort of like modular for all creatures not just artifact creatures. No, it' doesn't go in a tight 450 powered list. But depending on what your black section does, it can go in a lot of cubes and be useful.
I don't even remotely understand the black section of almost any mtgs listed Cubes (or let me rephrase: I understand it, but I'd just as soon I didn't). Black is the most insular color (other than if you are being argumentative and define Magic history as "blue" and "everything else") . I don't see how Cubes that nominally survey the tradition and history of the game can ignore this simple (and glaring) fact.
In what universe is a non-entity of a card (if it never saw print its absence would barely register as a whimper) like Reaver Drone better than Carrion Feeder? This is especially true in Conspiracy Cubes with Muzio's Preparations and cross color synergies (Ranger of Eos, Academy Rector, Goblin Bombardment,..)
By "insular", I'm taking that to mean you think more cube designers should embrace a mono-black theme?
I think that's a fine argument, but I just don't think it's very much fun to be drafting black devotion if someone else is doing the same. You either end up with an amazing deck or nothing at all.
As for Carrion Feeder, I'm just not that impressed. It requires too much synergism to be outstanding and often ends up being mediocre or dull. Moreover, if you're supporting aggro, a 2/1 for 1CC is always going to do predictable work. When I go to draft aggo in limited, I want reliable, non-contingent aggression.
I have played both cards before, both were terrible. They are dead or nearly dead cards if you do not draw your synergy cards, and anyway they do not fill the role of an aggro one drop
Amen. My point was that they're both bad, not that they're both reasonable. I'd never play either of those cards in a generic aggro shell, and they'd only make the final 40 if I was deep into their respective archetypes.
That's precisely how I felt looking at those cards. Thank you.
If you haven't tried the Clique and are looking for a 5-drop, I'd suggest you to try it for a while .
I actually just removed Clique this week. Maybe he needs more play-testing, but he was getting last picked over and over and not really used by players.
Shriekmaw is the only staple black 5-drop, everything else is as equally as mediocre as the next one. Pick whatever ones support whatever strategy you want to bolster.
Is it acceptable to use only Shriekmaw in 630? Or does that create an awkward gap?

This is a great list. How many do you need at 360, 540, 720?

How often does it dud?

What kind of deck do you think he fits best?
