I have a question for how this interaction works. Let's say that I have a Retreat to Kazandu and a Zendikar's Roil on the field. And then I cast a Explosive vegetation. Can I let the two Green 2/2 elementals resolve first and then put the +1/+1 counters from retreat on the green elementals? Any info would be much appreciated.

I have been looking around but have been unable to find to find a solid answer. Surge says you may cast this spell for its surge cost if you or a teammate has cast another spell this turn, such as the cardreckless bushwhacker. So does this mean that if I cast a spell on their turn that I may then pay the surge cost on a creature and bring it in on my opponents turn? Or do the rules of when you can cast things still apply? An explanation would be greatly appreciated.

I was just in another thread that made an extra explore deck. This deck has 75 cards that could have equipment, Zendikari quest enchantments, a few lands, and a few trap cards, such as Feeding Frenzy which would target the creature you use to explore, or Zombie Brute which would fight with the exploring creature and if said Brute survives, it joins the horde battlefield.
The current iteration is that you can pay 2 and tap a creature you control to have it explore the Explore deck (kinda like investigate... but they came up with the idea in 2013... eerie, huh?). When you explore, you reveal the top card of the explore deck and well...whatever happens does happen, unless it can't (like Feeding Frenzy trying to target a creature with hexproof or shroud). If it can't, I'm pretty sure it goes at the bottom of the deck... or the graveyard of the explore deck, I forget which.
Oooh, that's an awesome concept. It's like the survivor is leaving to explore for something useful and it could turn out great and get you an equipment, enchantment, etc. Or it could turn out bad and be a trap kill card like you mentioned. I'm definitely gonna implement this mechanic.

It is most like the Minotaur Horde released with Born of the Gods, but the concept predates it by about two years.
As far as the +1/+0 idea, it looks fine if the team is starting at 80 or more life. 60 life with this could be pushing it.
Cool, I'm excited to test this out when I get together with friends next time. A couple other tweaks I was thinking of making to the game type is that there is a zone where equipment cards go when they are cast (like an equipment cache), and any of your teammates can pay the equip cost to put it on their creature, and also spells that normally target creatures you control will also target your teammates creatures as well, so cards like Alive // Well will also count your teammates creatures for the heal spell. These rules go against normal multiplayer rules but I think they fit the Horde game type a bit better, or at least in my opinion.

Yeah, more or less it's the same type of concept. I wanted to keep the theme to zombies and I'm trying to mess around with mechanics that would make it more interesting, such as having a sort of day night cycle that has an effect on the zombies.

It's basically a game type where you and other people cooperatively fight off a deck that basically plays itself. It has 60 zombie tokens and 40 other zombie themed spells. The horde draws cards until it reaches a non token card so all the tokens drawn go to the battlefield and the spell gets cast right away because the horde has unlimited mana. The horde's creatures also have haste and they just attack each turn. So you're basically trying to survive the horde deck with teammates until it runs out of cards. So much fun.

So I recently learned of Horde Magic from a guy I met at last weeks FNM and I love this game type. I was thinking that it would be cool if there was actually a day-night cycle where the time of day changes at the end of the horde's turn. And I was thinking at night the horde would get a +1/+0 buff, kinda like in the video game Dead Rising where the zombies get tougher at night time. It's just an idea that I had and wanted to see what people's thoughts were. Do you think it could work or do you think it would be a bit over powered? I'd love to hear some thoughts.

In this scenario I cast a creature which turns my Angel's Tomb into a 3/3 flyer and my opponent hits it with a Stasis Snare. Does anything happen to Angel's Tomb when it turns back into an artifact at the end of turn, or does it just stay as is in exile? An explanation would be much appreciated.

I was wondering what happens to a 2/2 manifested creature when I use the activated ability of the Eldrazi Displacer on it? I assume that the card comes back face up, but what happens if isn't a creature and is an instant, land, sorcery, etc?

I ran into a scenario that I feel like I should know how it plays out, but I'm blanking on it. So in the scenario I enchant Battlewise Hoplite with a Unquestioned Authority. How does this play out? Do I scry first and then draw a card, or do I draw the card first and then scry? An explanation would be very appreciated.

  • posted a message on Eldrazi Displacer and Willbreaker situation
Ahh, I see. I thought the Displacer became the target of Grasp of the Hieromancers ability when the ability resolved, thus giving me control of their creature, but how you guys described it makes more sense. So basically by the time the Willbreaker control ability resolved he was already gone and replaced by a new Willbreaker so the trigger just fizzles into thin air. He got lucky he was using a Eldrazi Displacer, that was the perfect counter for a Willbreaker deck.

  • posted a message on Eldrazi Displacer and Willbreaker situation
So I had a weird situation happen at the last FNM that we got a bit confused about. So on my battlefield I had a Willbreaker that was enchanted with a Grasp of the Hieromancer. I also had one of my opponents creatures under control from Willbreaker. I decided to attack with Willbreaker and to use the ability from Grasp of the Hieromancer to tap his Eldrazi Displacer. My opponent responded by activating the ability of Eldrazi Displacer. He had my Willbreaker exiled which caused my enchantment to go to the graveyard and I also lost control of the creature I had control of since Willbreaker left the battlefield, and then willbreaker comes back. But this is where we got confused. So after the ability of Eldrazi Displacer resolves and does all of that, does my Grasp of the Hieromancer ability still go off? I assume that the ability stayed on the stack even though the enchantment went to the graveyard because it became independent from the source once it was triggered. In my mind Willbreaker is exiled, he loses his enchantment and creature and then he comes back. The grasp of the hieromancer ability then resolves and taps the Eldrazil Displacer and I end up gaining control of it. Is this how it would play out? I would love to have this cleared up.

  • posted a message on Two Lifelink Attackers
For the sake of this example let's say that I have 2 Markov Patricians and a Bloodbond Vampire on my field, and my opponent's field is wide open. I choose to attack them with both Markov Patricians and the damage is dealt and I gain 3 life with both of them with their lifelink ability(six life total). I'm assuming that my Bloodbond Vampire gets 2 +1/+1 counters since there was two instances of life being gained. Someone I play with seems to think that the life gain would be lumped together as one instance of gaining 6 life because as he says "Damage is all dealt at once" and the Bloodbond Vampire would only get one +1/+1 counter. I really don't think that this is right because as I see it there was two instances of gaining life on two separate creatures with lifelink thus giving me 2 +1/+1 counters. Just wanted this to be cleared up.
