SO my brother plays a [card:Vraska the Unseen]Vraska[/card] deck, with lots of removal spells and deathtouch creatures, and I am at a loss for how to counter it. Does anyone know any decks effective against that type of deck? I am open to any colors, but I have mostly green and white in my collection.
Cards you already own: Almost all cheap goblin cards(that cost less than a dollar),cheap leonin cards and some booster cards that aren't useful.
Colors you like to play: Red,green, black.
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue): aggro and combo, mostly.
Budget you have: Around 15 dollars
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq): FNM and local tournaments.
$15 isn't going to get you ANYWHERE. My recommendation would be to buy a deckbuilders toolkit ($50) Or a couple premade decks on amazon ($20ish) and then invest in some singles. This is what I did and I have a pretty good deck for around $80.
While i agree that 15$ are not enough to build a decent deck, i don't think that a deckbuilders toolkit is a good starting point. From my experience most cards in it are not even standard playable. But there is a primer about goblin decks in the developing competitive section (http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/developing-competitive-modern/220256-goblins). Some of these decks cost around 50 bucks if you leave out Goblin Guide.
Standard playable? This is the MODERN FORUM. I think deckbuilders toolkit is great because you can make decks for you friends to use as well, if you aren't going to events.

What I did was kind of similar to the "Plunging in" that was described above, but I already had an idea of what I wanted to do. I bought 2 Vraska The Unseen at my local magic shop because I knew I wanted to base my deck around her. Then I bought a Deckbuilder's Toolkit, some Booster Packs, and 2 Preconstructed decks I found on Amazon, one black and one white. My deck turned out really well in my opinion, and you can check it out here. Another thing you can do is download Magic: Duels on your PC. It gives you a really good idea of what rules are and how to play. It also gives you some prebuilt decks to mess around with, to let you see what the different colors can do.
I made this deck on a pretty low budget from a Deckbuilders toolkit and a few booster packs, so it probably isn't the best it could be, but even so, and tips or comments are very much appreciated.
maybe even kiku, night's flower
though generically i think grave titan or liliana's reaver would work great and allow you to overrun them.
for beaters.
horobi makes all your kill spells hit, and toshiro lets you reuse your kill spells.
Okay, I almost feel like I'll regret suggesting this because it's normally so bad, but... maybe Phage the Untouchable? (Last ability.) Very much an assassin in the vein of Vraska.
It could work, but if I were going to use that I would probably want to use it for my win strat, which I don't. Also, 7 mana seems like a lot for that, since it's only 4/4.
So maybe I should go spellheavy, with like 22 land, 22 spells and 16 creatures? Just load up on removal spells and save them until right before or when I ult?
Parallel lives only gives you a benefit if you are ulting your planeswalker. If you are in that position you have virtually won anyways and having additional tokens won't help. Doubling season affects counters on the planeswalkers and would be relevant regardless of the number of tokens you get.
But why would there be any counters on Vraska? And I feel like having the extra tokens would help because say the opponent has 4 creatures out, and I play it normally, he can block all 3 tokens. However, if I use Parallel Lives, I'll have 6 of them and can get two of them through to the player.
The thing is... if your opponent lets Vraska ult, you are clearly in a winning state anyway. If you are behind, you won't want the ult, you'll want the -2 to get rid of the opponent's problematic creature. If the board is stalled, I'm surprised the opponent has so few ways of poking damage through that Vraska survives.
Now, Parallel Lives is decent with other token-making cards. However, again, if your opponent lets you play an otherwise useless 4-mana enchantment, play a 5-mana planeswalker, and spend a few turns ticking it up... well, I don't know what's going on there, but it's not a winning strategy. Also, again, you might as well just play any of the other ways we've mentioned to push through damage.
Now, Doubling Season would be awesome because of a 'glitch' in the rules: the counter-doubling effect doubles initial loyalty counters. Thus, Vraska starts at 10, enough to ult and follow next turn by a -2 to shoot their blocker. Unfortunately, it is a bit pricey.
Okay, that makes sense.
Woah yeah, that sounds pretty nice. I might have to invest in one of those and then get a few instants/sorceries that let me pull a card from my deck. But how do I prove this "glitch in the rules" When my opponent decides to light all of my cards on fire?

Might do those. I'm not sure
I think that was mentioned earlier, but I'm definentaly going to have to use that.
While others think it's Coke or Pepsi.
I believe, however that the eternal question is:
DC OR MARVEL?
Debate below
