i think the red trap should have read "affinity for attacking creatures"
i think that green ally is exactly what allies need now to actually get interesting (but more then likely still not be fast enough to deal with some of the new vampires)
i would love to hear anything he can say about the next big block Zendikar. i am sure he can not say much now, but i would be interested in anything he would be allowed to say
it was a good show as always, but i am kinda giving up on the comment contest, its just too hard to win now. happens tho (but btw i do enjoy the contest as a whole). and i also enjoy anything that gets me free paper magic cards.
i have a love hate relationship with the idea of the change to the core sets. i love it because i love new cards that do not require flavor to be correct, which means they can print cards they have been dreaming about, but kicked out because they were not flavor correct for any sets up to this point. so god only knows what kind of goofy, off the wall, and just plain odd cards they will put in these sets. on the otherside i really don't have the money to pay for yet more cards, which basically means im proably going to keep my policy of atleast one pack per new set, which i have done since dissension. but on the other other side, i like pre-release, but i really wish they would make the starter packs, i do beleve the artical did state they were not going to make them for the core sets, which sucks. and on yet another side, i noticed that they last 15 months, which means there will be some interaction between core sets, which really allows them to make cards in the core set that suck with the current format, but need 1 peice they print in the next core set, and is then legal for 3 months. seeing as i honestly do not have the time to read 17 pages of posts, i do not know how much of this has been said, so sorry if i repeated something someone else said. but thats how i feel, enjoy
good show guys, im glad tom is back. interesting about the having to use a special thing with your xbox to play the duels of the plainswalker promo. i had made a deck, but its basically above, so i desided it was not worth posting. have fun to all
i would gladly buy cards at a local store. 2 small problems, the closest one is 60 miles in all 4 cardinal directions. i would also enjoy buying cards through the sponsors, but with a lack of sizable funds, and no credit card or credit card like effect, i am unable to do that as well. as for the 6 card booster packs, i have a mixed feeling about it. i don't think it is a bad idea, but i don't think it will be a good idea long term, just as i felt for mythic rares.
o, and i figured i would also add that i miss tom, he brings a little more of the "i play magic for fun, and am not a pro" view, which is kinda why i keep listening
as always a great show, i did want to say a few things tho, i would enjoy the scratch off in the packs, but i do feel as if that would majorly benefit the pro players more then the general populous because they really do open more packs. as for the tips and tricks, i personally don't open enough packs to be able worried about getting too many. so i ended up started to collect them for the cool art work for the next set. thus far i have gotten 1 for each of the tips and tricks, and 1 for each of the next sets art work. i do relies that was not there intention, but hey i did it because i could and because i enjoyed having an odd collection no one else bothered with. (also there has been times when my collection of tips and trick did help in situations where the store owner or group didn't know the exact ruling, and it was on the card) anyways, as for the conflux i am personally hoping i can get my local play group to get to a prerelease, and i am quite excited.
the cards from conflux i am looking forward to are:
Aven Squire
Gleam of Resistance
Mark of Asylum
Martial Coup
Path to Exile
Goblin Razerunners
Volcanic Fallout
Voracious Dragon Noble Hierarch
Apocalypse Hydra
Maelstrom Archangel Progenitus
Font of Mythos
Ancient Ziggurat
Exotic Orchard
Reliquary Tower
Rupture Spire
most of the have to do with my soldier, goblin, and other decks i regularly play. the other ones are fairly obviously really good and strong cards and will proably be coveted for a long time to come.
EDIT: ok, so me and 3 people from my play group went up, and played in the pre-release. all of us are kinda casual players so we tried the open dueling. it was a good idea, it was fun to duel all kinds of people. the cards were good, and worked kinda well. the only problems i saw from this part of the pre-release were that the pre-made decks were really slow, and seemed not to want to work fast. also we were not allowed to pick the starter deck we wanted, i understand this is proably because grixis was really excessively weak. other then that, it was a very fun experance for me and my causal play group. so i guess i should get going then LaterZ
P.S. i went to the regial pre-release in burnsville
Great show guys! I vote for a longer show. But the idea of themes for certain weeks of the month I also like (maybe just for a tiny segment in the show, because right now I like all the segments). Perhaps one week could be tribal week, one would could be spike week where Gavin talks about the meta in the current tourney format, then one week could be limited week, ect. I also miss the combo of the week :-P.
Here's a couple in case you need some for next show:
how about Natural Order + ??? i do beleve that would be alot meaner, because progenitus if discarded goes back into your library
Edit- in my haste to reply about a cool combo i thought of, i forgot to mention that i honestly don't worry about which format you guy pick long or short, as long as you keep the good shows a coming. my only suggestion is that if you do go to a short show it should only be during the spoiler season of new sets, because that is the only time that the shows really good unwieldy long. maybe have a show that does nothing but the spoiler season?
good show as always... i honestly think it would be funny if they ran a draft like was mentioned on the show, but always made sure to put atleast 1 good common from a non-craptastic set. but maybe it is me that i would think that was funny.
Edit i forgot to mention i have a friend who accually quite playing because he spent like 18 months in Iraq with the minnesota national guard... i just wanted to mention that
I really wish they stop printing dual lands. Good dual lands enable multicolor decks, but at the sake of disabling otherwise good monocolor decks. For variety's sake, let there be a standard where monocolor rules.
there has been a great deal of monocolor sets, this one is not, it happens, just wait magic is a rotation everything you love will die and be reborn, everything you hate will die and be reborn. new things will be added with old twists, and old things will be used in new ways. that is why magic is awesome, and why its down right annoying at times.
what i would personally love is a duel land that is not a duel land that produces monocolor in a different way. how exactly that would work i have not a clue, but i would enjoy something like that with the next monocolor set.
This is a modification of a deck i play in causal, so i don't have a sideboard, but the deck itself runs quite efficient without any assistance. i took out a Goblin Bombardment and a Kyren Legate to add the 2 Lifelines. i have not tried it out this way, but being that this deck sacrifices everything and has things that naively produce tokens when they go in the graveyard i can see it being alot more better with lifeline.
also i am not rich, nor is my collection hugh by any means so this is based solely off the cards i own, sagested additions are welcome buy keep in mind that there is not a card store within 50 miles of here, and the only card buying i have is department stores. (and no i can't buy online seeing as its not worth it for the 1 or 2 times i play in a given month)
i tried to figure something that would work, but there is nothing i could think of making... anyways, i think it was as good as it normally is, i personally wish i could remember where to get ahoy tho
i didn't get a chance to go to a pre-release, the local card shop here closed down at the release of eventide, unforturately the closest one is an hour one way.
Child of Alara - 1BWU
Artifact - Equipment
Equip creature gains +1/+2, gains haste and first strike 3: Put into play a 1/1 red green white black blue human construct with child of alara equiped to it 2:equip to target creature
Rhox War Monk is the worse one i feel, honestly lifelink is proably not that powerful to really deam a 3 different colors...
as for teaching people, basic decks like gavin said is the best plan. but the worse people to teach are anyone who played another TCG, expecially yugioh, for some reason the people who played that, and have played it alot really do not like to break that mold, which is the complete oposite of magic.
i think that green ally is exactly what allies need now to actually get interesting (but more then likely still not be fast enough to deal with some of the new vampires)
and i think the blue elemental is funny
thats my version of a similar deck, tho mine is more casual, and build for more of an extended format.
