I agree but would have it "+1/+1 for all soliders and +1/+1 for all Kor" that way Kor Soilders get the +2/+2 and the card is more relevant to solider decks.
That is what a solider should look like! The card is excellent and the art is amazing. I have waited years for this kind of card both ability and art. I have had it with shorthaired-goatee-stupid-helemet-wearing solider art wizard's is famous for. He actually looks like a hero-solider and not just some guy in uniform. The Solid Snake and FF aside he reminds me of a battle of the Bulge WWII solider or anyone who'd been in 'NAM too long. I'm getting at least 4 of!
I would recommend Shadowmoor, because of the good uncommons are hybrid (finks, flame javeline, ram-gang) and can be played in a variety of decks. The enchant creature commons are great (shield of the oversoul) and the rares are pretty decent too (reflecting pool, filterlands, Wilt-leaf Liege, demi-god of revenge). The packs also are pretty cheap too. I'd also agree with Morphling on Mirrodin too as there is a lot of nice equipment from that set that is harder to find now.
I think the smaller set size on the whole is a good idea. I like the better odds of pulling a rare I need from a pack, and it makes for a better concentration of cards.
I found Wizards has made too many one for each colour cards sets (manlands, beacons, pretty much every card in Lorwyn/shadowmoor) in a single set. Don't get me wrong I like the Lords set, but do we really need a "Gains 1 life" artifact set? or 4 crappy manlands and 1 good one?
I called 'Honor of the Pure' back in the spectulation thread. (though I had the casting cost wrong at ww). The Smiths look pretty decent too and I'm happy they're commons. I can't wait to make a soilder deck!
Crusade losing the vote in 10th edition made it an obsolete card. I find the card mentioned above (and the same card I had mentioned in another post) a perfect replacement. Don't get me wrong I love Crusade as it was the card that got me into the game (just looking at it on a box of revised) But it's time for a better card.
I started playing when I was 12. Each time I went into the comic book store everyone was playing magic on the floor and it was really popular. I remember loving the art on the booster box (Crusade, Serra Angel) and I ended up buying a started deck. I convinced my friend and his brother to get some too (they each got a started for Christmas) and we all became hooked, I even had another friend interested in it too and that became are play group up until 5th came out then we all stopped playing due to other interests/too much money to stay in. I ended up coming back to the game when I found some 8th edition boosters on sale at TRU for $1 a pack and have bene hooked ever sincem though none of my original play group came back with me.
I like the new duals. They will complement the Shocklands and original duals well. I really like it how they incorporate basic lands too, and will be best used in two colour decks.
I doubt the off colour versions will be in M10 simply due to space limitations, however perhaps Zendikar will have the off colour versions (only speculating based off the new G/B plainswalker).
Regardless, I'm going to try and get a set of them right away and pick up missing placesets of the painlands for casual decks as their price will drop.
Maybe it's because I began playing just after Legends was released but these rule changes to combat damage are not a big deal. The rule always used to be if you block and unsummon or sacrifice your creature doesn't deal or receive combat damage (and that actually makes sense) though the creature is still blocked. Even int he article MaGo gave a clear example using unsummon as to why they made these changes. From where I am sitting this is really not a big deal and it makes a lot more sense, especially for new players who are more than likely visualizing the battle scene.
I agree. I don't think it's really that big of a deal. I left in 5th edition and came back 9th and had no clue about the stack and I remember feeling really cheated during combat, as it didn't logically make sense to me who it how a creature could deal use its ability then deal damage. Techincally it made clear sense but it just seemed like a loop-hole in rules. In my opinion WOTC is just correcting an error they made. (Even pointing out that Mogg Fanatic is back to being play the way it was meant to be played)
I know this is off topic, but I used to live in Brighton a few years ago and I was wondering where people play Magic in the town? I don't ever remember even finding a place that sold Magic (not that I was looking as I was not playing at the time). The only place I can think of is a comic store in the Northern Lanes. So where do people play? As I have been debating on going back for a visit and it would be great to get a game of Magic in.
I generally use MOTL, I have used cardshark and ebay in the past. I always go to the shops here to, usually on release day because that is generally the only time he have any decent singles in stock.
I think VestDan hits this on the head with the simple line "Magic went from being a COLLECTIBLE card game to a TRADING card game"
The game is no longer collectible as it once was. Wizards has realized this fact by not updating the Reserved List in years, because they are making cards for moreseo for players now and not collectors. They have realized that by having the ability to reprint any card they make they can keep players happier in the long run. Look at CaptShetz's list all of those cards are great and it's shame they cannot be played with again aside from a kitchen table.
I do agree that certain cards do need a policy that they cannot be reprinted again (as earlier stated), and I like VestDan's idea of saying "All cards that are worth over X amount as of this date cannot be reprinted".
On the subject of Merrow Reejerey, I would think that given Blue's natural disdain for creatures (last place of all colours), any tribal lord type card in that colour would be rare, to help signify that blue's doesn't get it very often. Since you are right that moving from uncommon to rare is painful and that M10 has 50% new cards, why couldn't WotC just make a new blue merfolk lord if they wanted to include it in the set?
That's a good point. If you do think about it blue hasn't had a tribal lord in a few core sets and it would make sense for a new lord to be a rare for pie purposes.
