    Dear readers,

If anyone is still posting to this thread, I am wondering about the article's entry on Horde of Notions.

If you have one in play, and two in your graveyard, exactly how is it immune to spot removal? Wouldn't playing the second Horde be at sorcery speed? And even if it did work, wouldn't the Legendary rule cause both to die as a state-based effect?

My original assumption on reading it was that it put the creature into play. I think that it the net of how it works, but after rereading the card it may just allow you to play it for free whenever you could play a creature card. I'm guessing that a judge will be along shortly to clarify.

My thought was that if it was targeted with removal, and you had ten mana up with two in the graveyard you do the following:
1 Activate the one in play targeting one of the notions
2 Activate the one in play targeting the other notion
2 resolves, killing both with the legend rule
1 resolves, getting you a shiny new horde.

This is clearly a pretty contrived scenario, but a kinda nifty one.

I think it's very important for Ashling's Prerogative to explicitly state that, for the purposes of Magic the Gathering, zero is an even number. Otherwise you'd get bleedin' mathematicians arguing the toss with you: http://ask.yahoo.com/20020909.html

This is apparently what I missed when I stopped studying math to get an English Degree.

For the record I'm still going to believe Mrs. Norwood, my second grade teacher, on this one. The woman was a saint, and if she says zero is even I believe her.

I'm not kidding when I say how useful the "activate for zero" part of his ability is in my current deck. I built a "tribal" deck around four of these guys, putting in every lord I could get my hands on from Goblin King to Field Marshal to Lovisa Coldeyes. I love how the activation for zero can actually pump all my creatures.

You can expect me to write an article about this when Lorwyn comes out on MTGO. I will. of course, claim all credit for my own. Imperious Prefect with Goblin King, the Giant Lord and Lovisa is clearly Excellent. But throwing in Sacred Mesa? That is insane. Heck, all the multiple token generators with this are insane.

Posts merged. In future, please edit your post with what ever else you want to say, for double posting in this section is considered spam.

as far as primal command is concerned, unless i am missing something this card is just plain better than plow under (and i am playing that for 5 already)

You can only use the permanent to library ability once, so it is closer to fallow earth than plow under. It isn't a terrible card, but in comparision to the other commands it suffers.

even with a glorious anthem out, everytime you activate the Mirror Entity, the creatures become 1/1s.
If not, please tell me how it works then, so i can use it. Grin

Doh. I screwed up the layers. I think you are right. It looks like En Cor is the way to go.

Edit: You would have to use frenetic sliver or in addition Jodah's avenger

I think I played you at the prerelease. My opponent blocked a creature of mine with the Immaculate when he had that and the Perfect in play, and let it die, just because he felt bad.

If you were in Columbus Ohio that might have been me. Although the one time I did block with the Immaculate I then hit him with Epic Proportions. I really wanted to attack with a 14/14 trampler the next turn.

Nice article, but with Ceasless Searblades and Mirror Entity, it would destroy your creatures if you activate for zero, and if you did it to one, then the ceasless Searblades would become a 1/1. (Mirror Entity goes on stack, activates Ceasless Searblades ability. Searblades gets the +1/+0, then becomes a 1/1).

Ahh, that was where the en-cor part comes in. It is a 0:Prevent 1 damage ability
    So you do the following:
    Activate Entity for 1
    En-Cor on anything a bunch.
You now have a giant Searblades.

But your post brings up an interesting point that I had completely missed:
    1 Glorius Anthem
    1 Searblades
    1 Mirror Entity
And you now have a giant Searblades.

You are entirely correct on how I goofed on Lovisa. She loves warriors, but is not one of them.

Thanks for checking the article out. I am hoping it was of some use at the prerelease.

Here was the deck I played:

The only sideboard cards of interest were another Fodder Launch (not enough goblins) and Hunt Down (for anti elf removal)

11 elves or elf spells made my harbinger, huntmaster, and my two elf lords insane.

I won't say it played itself, but it certainly built itself. The deck had 4 bombs: Incremental growth (great if you curve to five, usually great anyway) Epic Proportions, Magistrate and Gate. Prefect can win games with absolutely no help (though ambush does help nicely).

When all was said and done I 5-0ed Saturday's flight three in Columbus, and did not drop a game. I overcommitted like a fiend and ground out an advantage on resources.

So how did everyone else do?

Little Nitpick : You forgot Ashling the Pilgrim

Ahh. You got me, totally missed her. She's an interesting case, because to suprise you she needs RRRR4, but in the late game that is not all that unlikely. She also has the benefit of being able to go off on the opponents turn.

    2 Krosan Grip
    4 Harmonize
    2 Hunting Wilds

    4 Dryad Arbor
    19 Forest

Edit: The deck can also become a TSP-legal deck by simply dropping the Wayfinders. I cut them out for a set of Search for Tomorrows to make my TSP block version.

I did not actually notice it was (almost) TSP legal. I will have to give that a try.

I have been trying out the wilds beforehand, and you are right, they can blow a game wide open. Two seems about right, because I am never that excited to see them in my opening hand. I really like them with the gauntlet as well.

I added the grips after reading your deck list because I got tired of facing the Warhammer. They have greatly increased my enjoyment in playing the deck. Since I have less card drawing I'm considering adding a Viridian Shaman on top of them.

I am glad you are having fun with the deck. I'm thrilled that you are making it better Smile

I've added hunting wilds to the build for the article. They turn four power of baru into 16 trampling in the endgame. Playing a forest that turn gets you to within one of lethal.

Verdeloth works much better with the gauntlet. Without it he usually only brings 2 or three friends.

I am glad the article went over well. If you have an inkling, definitely give the deck a try. It always has something it can do, and it builds to big flashy finishes.

Plus it is really hard to get mana screwed.

    On specific comments:
I skipped the blanchwood for the Wurmcalling/Baru because it gave me the chance to make many creatures that are the size of my forest total, and in some cases twice that. I love the armor, but it sets you up for two for ones and this deck is focused on two (or more) for ones in the other direction.

It does have big play ability, just not quite so big as it was. But not rolling over to random fliers is nice Smile

Summoner's Pact and Panglacial Wurm is really nifty. Making the Pact a 2 for 1 would be tough to beat. Nice thought xnylived.
