I'd almost always take a first striker, as they tend to trade more favourably with other creatures. Having said that, it is very subjective - and in an aggressive deck that wants to get damage through fast i'd be tempted to go with trample.

Personal favourites include managorger hydra sunscorch regent and elite scaleguard. The first two are great value in multiplayer games, the scaleguard will help get your big beasts through.

As long as you're sharing your Counters around, and not just targeting one player, I doubt anyone will complain too much. If you do start getting too oppressive, things are likely to balance themselves out when everyone else turns on you! Play the deck you want, as long as you're prepared for the consequences!

What everybody else is saying. You buy intro/planeswalker decks to try out lots of new cards. If there are ones you particularly like, you can buy a whole playset. And just like that another deck brewer is born!

Like th others have already said, the appeal with Commander to me is the random nature of a singleton format. Two games are rarely the same. I avoid even playing tutors in my decks, as I feel I lose that variation when I start hunting for certain cards.

But Magic can be whatever you want it to be, if your playgroup likes the idea - try it!

So I guess this means the Autumn blocks will have a 24 month shelf life, while the Spring ones will be 18 months (as they both rotate out at the same time). Apart from that odd kink, seems to make sense though.

Hi guys, first attempt at posting a deck here, so apologies if i make mistakes. I'm more towards the budget/casual end of the standard spectrum as opposed to competitive, but like this archetype and would be interested in hearing thoughts to take the deck on either way!

The plan is to create an army of servos to benefit from the anthem effects, while also taking advantage of the synergy between Inventor's goggles and artificiers.

Inventor's goggles has 18 artificers to target, making them more respectable even when I choose the servo option on Fabricate (which I plan to do 90 percent of the time!)

Underhanded designs will ping the opponent(s) for life while I'm dropping servos, but will also destroy any opposing creatures that get too big.

Servo exhibition, Weaponcraft enthusiast, Visionary Augmenter, and Master Marionette will bring the servos, while Master trinketeer and Chief of the Foundry will help make the tokens more of a threat.

Aviary engineer will help return my artificers to my hand so i can cast them again, creating more servos. Restoration guildsmith will do the same from the graveyard. And Midnight Oil is a bit of a gamble, but should help me if I stall in the late game (plus: Flavour!)

Obviously Gearhulks would be a great (but expensive) addition, and I haven't looked much beyond Kaladesh as of yet. But thought the challenge might appeal to the other brewers among you!

There seems to be a rare or mythic legend/planeswalker for every enemy colour pairing but Golgari, could that still be to come? Also i notice white is the only mono colour without a legend, and there's a tempting gap between A and C... Baral maybe? Although tbh seems like we already have a lot of legends in this set...

Oh man, I already LOVE aerial responder! Vigilance isn't Deathtouch, but a lot of similarity to Vampire Nighthawk!

Like most rare dual lands, it feels like these have pros and cons. Seems to me they are great in your opening hand, but probably less good top deck. I'm thinking they'll run in my aggro builds (particularly RW) but not in control. But would love to hear other people's thoughts?

Totally agree, loving the aetherborn already. Live fast and Die young may not turn out to be great cards, but that won't stop me building a deck around them!

  • posted a message on Why are most of the quests now for matched versus battles
Definitely a push towards versus. Not convinced it's working though. Half the time i try and find a match it times out without succeeding. When i finally do get a game my opponent often quits after a few turns (no big problem, i get the win, and can carry on working towards the quest against the AI that steps in). I wonder how many active players there are? Can't be many.

I see EDH as a format where you spend the evening playing one game that goes backwards and forwards with your mates. It usually ends with big combos, or big creatures that often wouldn't see the light of day in 60 card formats. If I just want a quick game, I'll play Modern or Standard, personally I don't feel that's what EDH is about.

BUT it is by design a casual format. If your group wants a quicker game with more aggro, i don't see why a rule change should be needed to drop the life totals?

  • posted a message on Did they ratchet up the difficulty for the Eldritch Moon story campaign?
I found this campaign particularly easy. None of the decks i played with felt particularly quick, but i won all but one round first time. The third one was hardest for me. The deck you're playing against is quicker than yours, and if you don't get your land drops it can be hard to come back. Think i got lucky on the last one, they only managed to cast a voldaren pariah, which i removed before winning.

  • posted a message on are ypu happy with the set so far?
I'll be adding the grand total of six new cards from this set to my collection. Two of them will slot into my casual standard decks, the other four are all bolstering my commanders. I can't remember ever going through a new card list and finding so few I wanted. Such a shame after SOI, which as a casual player I thought was a great set. Ah well, Conspiracy, Commander, and Kaladesh to look forwards to!
