Theres plenty of characters in Magics history who became famous through flavor text

Jaya Ballard, task mage is the freakin' OG of this.
    Norin the Wary
    Saffi Eriksdottir
    Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician
Stuffy Doll is a nonlegend, artwork version.
Ramos, Dragon Engine, to an extent.
    Gisa and Geralf
Heck, even Urza and Mishra could qualify.

Then theres a few were still waiting for cards with (a matter of time, hopefully)
    Hal and Alena
    Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar
    Disa the Restless

Like every one else, I think it depends.

    1. How many cards are getting tutored? If its just one, that leans towards waiting. If its something different like Gifts Ungiven (banned in Commander, but still,m or something that could make Dark Depths/Thespian's stage go off, you'll want to nip that in the bud.

    2. Where will the card end up? If its straight to hand (Demonic Tutor) or top of library Vampiric Tutor, you might be better off waiting, for card advantage. If its to the graveyard (Entomb, directly to the battlefield (Tooth and Nail Entwined[/card]), or the deck is clearly recursion based (definitely anything golgari/sultai), take out the tutor unless you have exile capabilities, because whatever it is is safest for you tucked in their library.

    3. What are they going to get? This is trickier if you don't know their deck that well, but you can still make resonable guesses. If you have a board full of beaters, they're playing Blue/White, and its a Mystical Tutor, chances are you're about to eat a Supreme Verdict, so you have to stop the tutor. But if its Wrath of God, and you're sitting on the counter, now they're out 5 mana and two cards instead of 1 mana and one card.

    4. Be mindful of the dreaded cast trigger. If something that copies spells is in play (Swarm Intelligence, Zada, Hedron Grinder_, stop the tutor (although the tutor might be copied, and now you're really in trouble). Any of the Eldrazi Titans are going to give you a wedgie up the blind eternities before you can so much as reach for an Island. And then there's the propect of Cascade, particularly where Maelstrom Wanderer is concerned. Next thing you know, you're staring at three spells, and god knows what trouble you're goinna be in.,

I guess overall, countering the tutor is the safer play, while countering the fetch can bring better value. At the end of the day though, the right answer lies in reading the board, making an educated guess, and still being prepared to be wrong.

Does anyone else feel like this spoiler season's been like a bunch of different parents in a divorce trying to buy our love?

"Here you go, Uncommon planeswalkers. All your favorite characters"

"No, no, no. You want this toy- Bolas' Citadel!"

"Hey, how about free flashbacks on attack? You like that?"

"You know what's cool? PUPPIES. Lots and lots of Puppies!"

"Shhh. Don't listen to them. I got the Amonkhet Gods coming back"

    "Fblthp!"

    "No, Massacre Girl!"

(Door gets kicked in, everyone turns to look)

    "LANDFALL PROLIFERATE!"

    Eh, dies to Shock.

Seriously though, this is the answer to one of the biggest problems I have in my K&T deck, which is getting an immediate Ult on Nissa, Vital Force

Hell, with this I could maybe get MULTIPLE ults on her.

Thanks for the replies, that's what I was thinking as well. I guess I'll make me a mardu artistocrats, it's the only aggro deck I can think of that seems kind of interesting.

Have you actually asked yourself what it is about aggro that you find boring? There's always ways you can tweak things to make them more interesting. For instance, I'm not really a control guy, but I'm running Temur Reclamation in Arena. Mainly because Expansion//Explosion is enough of a fun one to make me want to hop in.

But yeah, like everyone else said, at least some level of familiarity with all deck archetypes is a bonus.

Look, I'm as conservative as they come, and I see no issue with this.

The fact of the matter is, whatever Autumn Burchett is/isn't biologically is an entirely different discussion, and one I appreciate the OP for not wanting to get into.

Wizards was writing an article celebrating Burchett's performance at the MC, and elected to use their preferred pronoun. That's their perogative. If you want to refer to them as a "he", or "she", that's your perogative too. Nobody should be able to force you how you refer to someone.

That being said... is the resulting friction you cause over it really worth the message you're trying to send? I mean, who exactly do you even convince by it? I mean, what's Wizard's supposed to do here? "Burchett came out of nowhere and played the hell out of MBT but HE'S REALLY A DUDE JUST SO YOU KNOW." What does that accomplish?

Imagine this- you have an athlete who's a very devout Christian who wears it on their sleeve. Like, Tim Tebow, for instance. Now, you may believe in the tenets of Christianity, you may not. But could you imagine how obnoxious it would be if people writing articles about Tebow, even praising his on-field performance, made sure to insert at every opportunity how the "walking hippy zombie and sky fairy" he worships weren't real?

At the end of the day, Autumn Burchett's a Magic player, and a damn good one at that, and they've done something that every single person on this board can only dream about. There's a place for the transgender, and even pronoun debate, but it ain't here, and it shouldn't be at Autumn's expense.

Baron Sengir. Now there's a villain with a legend strong enough to step up after Bolas bites the dust. Who wouldn't like to see the Baron again?

I'm 100% on board with return to Ulgrotha. Make Homelands Great Again!

I like all of them, Defiant Strike could see play in my Narset commander deck, imagine getting it off on Zada, Hedron Grinder. But it is pretty clear by now that Proliferate is focused in green.

Any Cantrip is awesome with Zada. RW Zada would be a bit tough to pull off though.

Massacre girl might looks weak but that effect will cascade and will probly destroy the board.

Have... have you read anything in this thread?

Because this whole thread has been about how disgusting that ability is.

massacre girl reminded me of Last Laugh :3

Interestingly enough Last Laugh would be a pretty good card to play in a Massacre Girl Commander deck (even though it would eventually kill Massacre Girl herself)...

HOnestly, I feel it'd be more redundant than anything.

Where I like Last Laugh is in a place like Kazarov, Sengir Pureblood where damage is what matters. Fun thing with Kazarov is that as long as you don't have too many creatures of your own, he'll always stay ahead of Last Laugh's body count (provided you order your triggers right)

if anyone is missing the joke, Goblin assault team's art is brilliant. You can see a boros goblin, izzet goblin, rakdos goblin (background), and gruul goblin (foreground) all acting like plain old goblins

At the end of the day, you're still a goblin.

the abundance of proliferate is amazing, also Infect EDH is going to get a bunch scarier with this being the case.

    Shush. Don't ruin the moment.

It probably was built with support for Brawl. WotC has shown that Arena does have the capacity to enforce a singleton format as well as unique ban lists. Not sure if it has the EDH rules enforced but that is neither here or there.

I think the more pressing factor is almost no one give a rats fezz about the format. It's telling when the winner at Barcelona is also the only one who showed up.

Arena might introduce it later on. I don't really see a lot of the things that effectively killed the paper format there for the digital version.

You mean EDH doesn't exist in Arena? :p

Quite honestly I really can't tell what you're trying to say here. Of course EDH doesn't exist in Arena.

Its a joke. Mainly that the number one reason brawl failed is because EDH is just a better format.

Consider the following: this guy is the first 4/4 common for 3G.
And I expected a common with such stats to be vanilla, but hey, there is an upside.

Even better, play Rhythm of the Wild, activate Conclave Guildmage, or something similar. NOw you're getting a 6/6 for 4 that can put counters on everything else.
