We didn't get this last time but I think it would be a very cool 5-card cycle!!
I hope so.
I think the issue with the Nemeses is that they're inherently stronger in single-player than in multi-player, even if they lead to interesting play experiences in multi-player. So they're the perfect candidate for "turns out to be valuable in Legacy" like True-Name Nemesis.
I think maybe you summed it up rather nicely with the thread's title.
There are obviously many great cards here and I'll play them because they are either unique or typically-better (in multiplayer settings) than existing cards.
I do want to ask a question of my own here re: the mechanic 'Will of the Council'. I'm considering picking up some Council's Judgment as fun alternate to O Ring in a dedicated MP White deck. I was trying to get my head around this mechanic. I'm guessing it gets slightly better in games where there are an odd number of players.. Anyone have any advice on ways to abuse this mechanic, or just this card..
Of course as someone who's other favorite CCG (Rage: the Apocalypse) featured strong voting mechanic, I think these "Will of the Council" cards are basically the coolest thing ever.
You might want to get a Brago's Representative, who gives you an extra vote. Also it can be good to get cards that can give opponents benefits, as favors for voting your way. Phelddagrif and Questing Phelddagrif are the classics, but there's many more. And it might just be overkill, but Mindslaver is really funny with voting.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it destroys everything tied for first, so you can destroy multiple things. If each player votes for a different thing, it can wipe out tons of permanents you don't control.
Does anyone else think that WotC might use this method of reprinting to make some Legacy staples more available? It gets around many problems with reprinting cards like Force of Will:
1. The reprints aren't Standard legal.
2. It's not a fixed distribution product like From The Vaults, so it would get around the problems of FoW being in a $40 boxset which is all snapped up seconds after it goes on sale.
I'm not sure it's likely, but it's definitely possible that we'll see some non-Reserved List staples printed this way in upcoming sets: Force of Will, Wasteland, Ancient Tomb, etc.
I was always bugged by the name "Standard." In my day, it was called "Type 2." It seems to me that the "Standard" rules would just be "play with all the cards available," while just allowing cards from the last 2 years is a much more restrictive and specialized format.
One theme I'd love to see in a RW precon is Red effects like Earthquake or Starstorm combined with white creatures with Flying or Protection From Red, respectively. In their thematic color identities, there's overlap between passion and idealism, and overlap between desire for destruction and desire for cleansing.
Plus the whole strategy of "mass-sweepers with creatures that can survive them" is one of my favorites in MtG.
