I understand why it isn't, but I dislike that this isn't a red colored artifact.

The front side shouldn't be evaluated as a graveyard matters ability, exactly because the back side is in contrast to that goal.

The front side is a card selection ability, and the back side is a stronger card selection ability.

This looks like a product they want on Wal-Mart/Toys R Us shelves, similar to Pokemon EX-boxes. These aren't (really) for established players, but for parents buying for their kids/grandkids/nephews/nieces.

Would be nice if there is a black 4/4 Zombie frame with the name, art and text box cut out to lay over the card to make it an Eternal Smile

We have punch out token cards now... so this isn't impossible.

Is the next God going to be Frog God?

Does this look anything like a frog to you?

    Ribbit.

Finally! Takklemaggot get's it's time to shine.
Yeah, not so much Frog looking I guess, I was expecting Frog curse. This could be Lice?

EDIT: Or Scarab I guess! Didn't realize the conversation expanded before the image.

As a primary Tron player, the only way this deck is going to beat Tron is if it has a faster clock, currently the clock is slow, and it doesn't put on enough pressure. We have three choices of attack. Lock out planeswalkers, lock our Eldrazi, or try to go for a land lock. OTP, going for hand disruption also works well, but it needs to be Thoughtseize or IoK, Collective won't cut it.

Honestly, Chalice on 1 is probably the most consistent, easiest way to hurt Tron. Locking out the eggs, map and Stirrings should be enough to close out the game before they naturally draw 7 lands.

Ghost Quarter lock is just too slow and inconsistent, sometimes you'll get there, woo grats, but it's not the approach I would recommend against Tron. All in on Chalice on 1 and 2, if you can manage it.

I like the idea of all in on Thopter/Sword with Time Sieve, it seems to make sense. All of the 0 drop artifacts really helps with that game plan as well.

The Baubles and Opals are a bit of a blocker for me at the moment. So is playing Modern in general in my area, so I haven't been able to take a list out to play and get any sort of results yet.

@Ace1 your list is more in line with mine, I'm having trouble figuring out what the Godless Shrine is for though?

"White Zombie Snake Hydra" is probably a combination of words that has never been combined before. This card makes me giddy for reasons.

Halt is way too good. 1 mana hard counter to ANYTHING at the low low cost of letting your opponent draw another card.

I voted for Chancellor and Elixir, however, beast Within is probably the problem child there.

They're the problem cards in their "combos". Leyline I think can have it's uses in other deck combinations, so can Elixir, but it's probably going to be more degenerate. I'd be okay getting rid of Elixir and Beast.

    Different strokes?

I don't (usually) need to know what the second part of this card does until it's in my graveyard.

You don't like it, I don't mind it. Honestly, the way I organize my library/graveyard is not conducive to using these cards "as designed". But that doesn't change the fact I think it's a good design choice.

Make the card that you want to read, only legible in the place you'll need to read it.(read: Can cast it). I specifically dislike split cards for that reason.

Sure. I suppose there are people that still like how the Edsel looks. Fortunately the overall market will determine the merit of any design as it did with that freak.

It isn't so much I don't like the new design as I feel that it further gimmicks up the game. There are a lot of trash mechanics made for the sake of having something new, if not something good for the game play (count how many mechanics exist in Modern & how many are normally played). Perhaps more effort should be made to shore up existing mechanics/designs. That is, this new design is just something that could have been handled better using the existing split card design. Instead, Wizards is passing off the sh*t thrown at the fan (& seeing what sticks).

Lastly, this new design does NOT make the card that you want to read only legible in the place you'll need to read it. In the graveyard, the bottom half rotated portion is not legible unless you rotate the graveyard sideways also. However, this graveyard rotation makes all the flashback & other graveyard-castable cards not legible instead. Thus, Wizards' new design doesn't really solve what you purport it to.

As an example, I attached another mockup that does the job better without any odd sideways rotation. In you hand, you know what portion you can cast. When you put it into the graveyard, you place it 180 degrees so the other half can be read legibly consistently along with all the other flashback and graveyard-castable cards. Both the old split card and this mockup design are better & less problematic than Wizard's sh*t-fan Frankenstein.

I agree it is gimmicky, that's what Wizards needs to do to keep things "fresh" and "new", and if something DOES stick (DFCs are a good example), they can evolve it later on.

Also, why are you rotating your entire graveyard to accommodate this card? I'm on a Mac with no art apps right now, but imagine your graveyard lined up straight top to bottom, with these cards rotated 90 degrees and sticking out. Is that not what you're imagining? Cause that's what you should be imagining.

Your mockup could probably serve the same purpose, but suffers from the same tell problems. If you accidentally get it in your hand the wrong way, and/or you accidentally try to cast the wrong half because it's upright in your hand. No use speculating on other potential design space. They're smart people, I'm sure your idea was at least considered/iterated on, and this card that we have now is where they landed.

  • posted a message on Perfect Hand Magic League - 5 Card - Hands posted. Score your row now.
    Haven't scored mine yet, but I think we're 3-3

You can't bounce, and swing in one turn rotation, that either leaves you the inability to swing, or the inability to bounce.

    OTP:
    Shop, Sol Ring, Lodestone
    Karakas
Swing, take 5, bounce EoT (or bounce, then I replay it, which might matter later)
    Mutavault
Replay, or Swing, bounce, can't replay this turn.
    Activate Mutavault, Swing for 2?
    Replay Golem, you're tapped out
You can't do anything relevant, pass
Swing, take 5, or bounce, lets me replay.

Etc, etc. Unless I'm missing a line here. If you bounce me early, I get to replay, then if you bounce again, you can't attack.
If you only bounce EoT, that doesn't let you attack on the following turn without me being able to do some damage, if you actually want to attack back.

    Golem
    EoT Bounce
    Swing for 2
    Golem, can't EoT Bounce
    Do nothing
Preamture bounce, and I replay so you can't attack, or EoT bounce and take 5.

Long winded, and I'm tired, so I could be missing something.
