Maybe they'll do a tressure hunt thing again like they did for zendikar but instead this time with modern staples. This would allow them to not have to reprint some of the overpowered cards for std like Bob, but would still allow them to say they were helping to distribute them to the playing community.

Lowryn block looks like the strongest for grixsis control. You have great fixing with a vivd land and reflecting pool build.

Inistrade Might also be interesting if you lliana and snapcaster. If you go with a snapcaster build pick a core set that gives you a good draw/countersweets, either something with ponder or 7ed for counterspell, slight of hand.

For those of you that don't know the most up to date rules for Build Your Own Standard are located here:
    http://community.wizards.com/clanyawgmoth/go/thread/view/77017/26046389/Build_Your_Own_Standard_-_Season_3_Master_Document__Sponsored_by_Clan_Yawgmoth

Some of the cards banned in there blocks don't need to be banned, JTMS is much weaker in the format when it is so hard to play it next to FOW (which is in only Ice Age block).

Hierarch is probably necessary in a Wish build, but if you don't run Wish then she's sort of a space-waster.

Loam Lion is really good, but so is T1 IoK.

I'm not sure what this deck really wants to do T1. It's like there are 3 plays to make:
    - mana dork
    - 1 cc discard
    - aggro creature

Streamlining to support any of these strategies is probably optimal. If a deck is all over the map with what it wants to do, it will collapse.

KotR is better than Doran in most situations, but Treefolk Harbinger is pretty good too.

This deck doesn't really want to play a turn one aggro card. The main reason I would play harbringer is to find doran. The fact that it turns into a nactl is just a bonus. The deck is midrange, not aggro, not aggro-control.

Then the best turn one play is usually the mana dork, unless you really want the discard vs combo. And as you said you want to streamline them, which is why you run 8 with zenith but now I don't know.

The more I think about the wish version it seems really good. This deck is at least 60-40 vs pretty much everything. the only decks that it isn't is rdw and elves. I also want to move 1 tidehollow to the board. You can then either have 7 of them as well, or free up the slots all together.

NVM, my point was you want to be able to wish for a wrath effect. As Viricide said crime//punishement is the best one without splashing red.

As I've said before, I'm a huge fan of Glittering Wish, and love any attempt to play it in Modern, so bravo Smile

I like the list for the most part. Not sure I like the two Swords, as without a way to tutor them they seem like "win more" cards that you only draw in some matchups. I'd rather see them turned into a 5th one-drop discard spell and a 3rd maindeck Finks. I'm also not a fan of Hierarch in this deck as she can't tap for black. I'd rather see more lands (I like at least 24 any time I'm running KotR) and maybe a couple Elspeth.

Regarding your wishboard, Putrefy seems almost strictly worse than Pulse because the benefit of being an instant is mostly negated by having to Wish for it at sorcery speed. I also like Crime // Punishment as a target (it's my pet card equivalent of Augury Adept for you). It's not Deed but it's still pretty good in some matchups.

Heirarch is really good. It speeds up the deck and enables stupid early plays, like turn two knight, turn three elspeth, and turn three baneslayer (with turn two knight). Black has never been a problem for me with enough fetch lands. I've never been manay screwed. Knight can also fix if you need it to in a jam.

The only reason I would remove them from a post ban deck is because the above plays arn't as good/consistant without 8 of them in your deck turn 1.

I really like the wish too, I just dont' know if it's worth it.

This is my 4-0 decklist from a Magic Online daily on 9/10/11, obv pre ban.

This version is primearily built around zenith. Zenith was definatley the most powerfull green card in the format so I'm really sad to lose it.

The post ban changes I would make to this deck would be something like:
    -4 zenith
    -2 baneslayer
    -4 noble hierarch

    +2 doran
    +4 treefolk harbringer
    +3-4 Tidehollow Sculler
+1-2 ethersworn canonist for the other hate bears depending on the meta

    -1 dryad arbor
    +1 murmuring bosk

There's no way I would play this deck without 4 knights. Doran is good and without zenith I would include it but never at the cost of knight. They are strictly better.

About the knight package and serji stepp, and bog. First stepp is completely outclassed by elspeth and completely uneeded if you're playing elspeth, which if you haven't tested it, it is very good.

I would totally play bog if there was any deck that was substantially using the graveyard. I can't think of anything in the meta that I want it in for. With that said it just becomes a bad tap land.

I've since changed the 3 ghost quarters to two more Tectonic Edge. They tested better as they were never dead and ghost quarters were.

The third one became the super secret tech of arena. At first I was a bit hesitant because you don't want to draw it, and the deck does like 24 land. But it house with knight of the reliquary essintially giving it vigiance and remval each turn!

If you don't understand this is how you play it. Their eot fetch arena with knight. Knight is tappeed but you can still choose it with arena. They get to choose their worst creature but you don't care because you will be taking another one again next turn. this with any non land draw should put you very far ahead.
You can then declare your attack with knight (or your biggest creature), and use arena after anytime you want after attacking.
This means you get a free 2 for 1 right off the bat and pressure with your biggest creature.

I've been very satisfied with elspeth, but I would also like to test gideon in that slot vs zoo.

Deathmark is also very underatted. I've seen it catch up a bit but I can't play less than 4 in the board now. It kills everything you want it to against any deck that you are ever going to bring it in against. It kills tarmogoyf, nactal, knight, doran, primeval titan, random white decks, etc.

I played the mirror a surprising number of times. vs other midrange decks it pretty much comes down to two things. First, whoever draws and sticks a confidant first, and second, whoever has the most removal, which confidant will help to set up. As well as the bonus removal created from the knight into arena play.

  • posted a message on CSV file?
you can make a csv for your entire collection. csv's are usually used to send to a dealer if you want to sell or value your collection.

If you want a printable decklist go to the deck editor and click save as. Then in the dropdown menu on the left go to text deck. Save you deck to the desktop or another folder that you find. You can then open it in notepad and copy paste to anything else.

In the OP, I changed the banned list to include Cranial Plating, Skullclamp, and Disciple, just to deal with affinity.

Flash is still the one card I knew might be the most problematic, and you kindly showed us an example of a win using it. The tutors aren't that awkward, since you have Mystical Tutor for flash, Worldy Tutor for hulk, and Vampiric Tutor for everything, assuming it would still be legal.

Gush, Mystical, Mind's Desire, Worldgorger, and Recruiter don't seem like problems at all due to the legal sets.

And is it not the purpose of a tournament to test the broken cards, or are you suggesting turning this into more of a play-testing thread instead?

I would suggest getting as much playtesting in as possible before changing creating a new banned list. We started with the most intensive banned list from the invitationaly and slowly whitled it down as we got more of a feel for the format.

well it's nice to see more interest in Build your own Standard.

I think the format is generally more fun if you allow Icea age and Urza's blocks, and the banned list doesn't get to out of control. Affinity isn't very frightening and I would certianly be more afraid of flash unbanned than affinity.

I'm still not 100% sure on our ban list and there are a couple that I would consider unbanning I just don't want to break anything. So I'm certainly open to suggestions of unbanning/banning cards.

Again, this card is barely used in legacy. Why would it be a problem here?

Keep in mind that the format is less powerful than legacy so a card being barely palable in legacy means that in the right combination of blocks and deckbuilding it could easily get out of control in this format.

    As for the specific cards:
Atog can create turn 2-3 wins in affinity. For how freaked out about affiniy you are it surprises me that you would sugest unbanneing this card.

Gush should prolly be unbanned. I will propose testing it out.

Minds desire- the basic storm deck played in Rav-tsp-9ed std at worlds is actaully viable here. I would consider unbanning this but it could easily get broken if done correctly.

As for our full rulings and to join us in playing this format on MTGO check out the season 3 master document. We meet every Sunday at 12:30 EST in /join BYOS!

Also don't ever leave more than one tix of credit on any bot. If anything happens to your credit there's nothing wizards can do. If you think there is an error then try to contact the owner of the bot and most will be more than happy to compensate an errors. The bot's contact information should be available either when you open a trade with them or if you right click their name and select info.

What do full-art basic lands have to do with Zendikar's theme? Let's just say our choice to do it came out of trying to maximize what Zendikar is trying to do.

So does this mean that after Zendikar we arn't going to keep the the full art lands:ugh:

Try going over an example draft in something like that.

I think that this is the best advice. You could have them look over your shoulder and you could explain some of your picks and what you're considering. Getting better at drafting takes experience ut if they can piggy back on your experience for a bit then that will help them to learn how to evaluate cards bbetter in the future.

Also if they're interested in a site the best one that I have found is http://www.mtgovideos.com/. This has helped me get alot better. Unfortunately they don't have any m10 yet becuase it's not out online yet.
