It's mythic because it's powerful.
Simple as that.
It's a supportive value engine that can also lay down the beats. Unlike other 'build around me' cards, this card is part of that building-around. You can throw him into many strategies and go wild.
For one thing, he immediately increases the playability of Liliana, the Last Hope in standard. Heck, this guy can trade with a Thought-Knot Seer.
The aggressive bent to the card is also significant. It's a sweet spot where like Dark Confidant he can lower the curve of a midrange deck, or add a means of value (his digging) to a more aggro deck.
And we all know how good incidental card value and digging is in aggro.
Yeah, what's with all the people who don't think this should be Mythic?
I'd jump for joy if WotC got rid of the entire Mythic rarity, but if any card qualifies, this one certainly does.
It's powerful and complex, with abilities up the whazoo. What's NOT mythic about it? Its CMC? Is there a rule saying cheap cards can't be mythic? I didn't think so.
A card like this will probably always be mythic, but disagree with you guys on why that is. They make it mythic because it is then worth $ and cards worth money help sell packs. Game play isn't even factored in when it comes to this card. But, if they didn't have a mythic or two worth $20+ while in standard then a set wouldn't be worth much as a whole because we also get flooded with $0.25 Rares and $0.50 mythics. Not much fun to spend $4 on a pack on sets like those.
I do agree with them doing this though. That's good business, make money and keep making cool cards like this. Thank you Wizards for printing it, no complaints from me
Wasnt it stated that the BFZ block was originally three sets with a titan each and emrakul getting the last set? Wouldnt it make sense that during the 'reshuffle' they moved emrakul 'related' story to SOI instead of scrapping her altogether? Makes sense to me, but without having eldrazi everywhere because /yawn.
Have we heard who/what the 'shadow' over innistrad is? I haven't seen this photo before and maybe its just something someone made on their own, but wanted ask.
I was always under the assumption that Lifelink stacks, but apparently it doesn't in this game. When I try to activate Jorubai Murk Lurker more than once on a creature it doesn't seem to give the extra life. Am I missing something?
I'm not sure there's even going to be a next Planeswalker Duel Deck. With two blocks per year, and two Duel Decks, we could well see two "preview" decks like Speed vs Cunning, Heroes vs Monsters, Izzet vs Golgari, or Zendikar vs Eldrazi each year.
Edit: Though, maybe they could tie it in to the current/upcoming storyline. Like, if the block after Zendikar features Bolas, they could do an Ugin vs Bolas deck with a new Bolas.
The other problem though is that Ugin will no longer be legal as of that set, as FRF and Khans rotate out.
That was actually the response my friends gave when we were discussing this topic. I also thought that we will now start getting the duel decks with a planeswalker from two different blocks with the unreleased planeswalker getting the 'alternate' (if you can call it that since it isn't yet released) art. This again would be great for sales and I don't think having access to one of the new sets planeswalkers early would affect the sales of the upcoming set.
I am very confidant Wizards will select Ugin for the duel deck. To me, it seems so automatic from a business mentality to include him as it will certainly sell TONS of them. Most players would buy AT LEAST one, but lots of players will buy multiples. I almost want to think they will use the alt art from the special Fate Reforged pre-release/release packs, but maybe that's a little much.
Wouldn't including him maximize profits? Are their any reasons I don't see why he wouldn't be included? Would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this.
Given that Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker already costs 8 mana, an Urza card should cost over 10 to make up for power difference...
Urza really isn't close to being as strong as Bolas, lorewise.
But 8 mana Bolas is him as a neo walker, so wouldn't a future Urza card need to be more powerful since he would be an old walker? Not that making a card for a walker shows all their power, but in my opinion they would need Urza to have a powerful group of abilities for us to drool over.
Speculation seemed like the appropriate place for this. Basically I am wondering your opinions on this; I am going to sell a complete set of the shock lands and am wondering if you would do it now, or wait until 11th Ed first? Would prices go up or down if they were released in 11th?
Please let me know what your opinions are since most of you have seen card pricing fluctuate first hand.
