I did not imagine your body shattered like a tiny pane of glass against the murky depths or the remains of your angel’s eyes being devoured by the ever-hungry fish, waiting like the vultures on the beaches of Crete below the cliff where you use to dream to me and where I brushed you off gently and tried to make sure you wouldn’t fall because of it, waiting for a morsel of humanity. I wish I would have seen you beginning your ascent so that we would have been drawn into Gaea’s bracing embrace together or that I could have counseled you to stay below the greedy hands of the warm fiery corona of daybreak so that we could have returned to Her busom, your small feet landing unshackled by grief or the grasp of Chiron, ferryman for the stinking corpses of children.
