I think this is realistic, and would be great for a straight-up burn deck:

    Lightning Spike 1R
    Sorcery
Lightning Spike deals 4 damage to target player.

Also, always thought this was a "somewhat balanced" idea:

    Steel Mox 0
    Artifact
Steel Mox comes into play tapped
tap, add 1 to your mana pool.

Or this, similar to the above card:

    Mana Tomb 1
    Artifact
tap, add 1 to your mana pool.

There should be one clear-cut place for rules... PERIOD. Rules & banned lists should also not be watered down with phrases like, "avoid cards like these..." C'mon, either a card is banned or it's not. This wishy-washy talk just leaves room for huge grey areas...

I'll step back in time now. A friend of mine had encouraged me to get into EDH. He sent me the link to http://www.dragonhighlander.net/rules.php. Silly me, i clicked the "Construction" link under "Rules" to find exactly what beanman1000 said:

"EDH is played with vintage legal cards, with two exceptions:
cards are legal as of their set's prerelease &
Shahrazad is legal for play in EDH"

Sounded simple enough to me... However, in the same e-mail my friend sent me, he also mentioned stuff like Power & such wasn't allowed, :eyebrow:... that statement totally contradicted the construction rules i had just read from the link he sent to me... last i heard, Power is Vintage legal.

So i asked my friend to explain this contradiction, to which he replied "the banned list they use is under the Social link." Silly me!! Facepalm

My point is, that within the same website, there's more than one "banned list". And i've now read things about a "French" banned list, & i'm sure there's others too... (someone on here said they know of 4 different lists??)

This lack of an organized banned list really turns me off. I truely hope the announcement from Wizards will be that they are taking over the format. No matter how much people complain about Wizards, the vast majority of those players still use the official Wizards banned & restricted lists for other formats...

I personally like the 100 card Highlander part of edh, but i'm not a really big fan of the other rules changes (rant coming)... instead of inventing this new format with its own rules, people could have just started building either Vintage-legal or Legacy-legal decks with 2 exceptions: 100-card minimum & "Highlander rule" (Highlander meaning everything that's not banned is restricted, except basic lands). If that would have been the case, then the official Wizards rules & banned lists would have still goverened the format, without any need for additional "general" rules and such, and players wouldn't be nearly as confused when entering the "format"... (end rant)

I hope Wizards does put clarity on the format by putting edh rules & a banned list on their website... c'mon Wizards... you can do it!! Lets Debate

Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers should work well with the Elf/Primalcrux/Beatdown theme...

Prophetic Prism isn't really all that good. But if you've got them and wanna use them, that's fine too. With the right lands though, you probably wouldn't have to bother with them. Here's some lands worth looking into for multi-color, if you don't want to spend $ for old duals and fetch lands: Ancient Ziggurat, Thran Quarry, City of Brass, Arcane Sanctum, Crumbling Necropolis, Jungle Shrine, Seaside Citadel, Savage Lands, Reflecting Pool, etc.

Coldsteel Heart might help with color fixing too. Because it creates its own mana instead of syphoning mana through like Prophetic Prism, it's better.

If you decide to go as creature-heavy as you suggest, then a neat card that wouldn't hurt you nearly as much as your opponents would be Thorn of Amethyst.

... Like I said before, I'd love if someone might break it down and see if it could work (if it's too slow, too muddled, too whatever).

Your deck's performance will depend drastically on what your opponent(s) bring(s) to the table...

    Mana Acceleration:
Urza's Block --> Thran Dynamo, Worn Powerstone, Grim Monolith, Voltaic Key
Other Blocks --> Mana Vault, Sol Ring, Coldsteel Heart (if you need colors)

Since 4 of any card seems okay in your setting, 4 each of Mox Ruby, Mox Jet, Mox Sapphire, Mox Emerald, Mox Pearl & Black Lotus might be fun.

Another pair of cool artifacts from Urza's Block are Temporal Aperture & Memory Jar. Recurring Memory Jar with Goblin Welder is quite fun!

And if you run Voltaic Key, then how about 4 Time Vault?

Not sure what your playgroup allows for proxies & card legality, but if there's no restrictions on either, one deck built with 4 of each of the old Moxes, Black Lotus, Time Valut, Memory Jar, Tolarian Academy, etc... will probably make your playgroup think again about addopting some restrictions.

I personally build decks using either Vintage or Legacy Banned/Restricted lists... they were formed by Wizards of the Coast for a reason... Cool

I know that in the begining of the game, WOTC didn't shrinkwrap boxes of boosters...

That definitely sucks too... where there's an un-sealed box of old boosters, there's most likely been someone who has searched the entire box and pulled out all the packs with worthwhile cards... Slant

I've been looking at some threads here and half the time I have no idea what people are talking about. Is there some sort of thread/post that has a list of the commonly used abbreviations and what they mean?

I got a chuckle out of this... i lurk in the background most of the time, reading various threads in areas that interest me. I run into SOOOOOOOOO many threads/posts where people use deck names and/or abbreviations that mean absolutely nothing to me... Often times also, people make posts abbreviating and/or referring to cards that i'm not familiar with, and they don't use the handy-dandy card-tag tool...

So i just go to the next post in the thread & ignore that which i don't understand. Guess i know i'm not truely a Magic-guru, since i can't and/or have no desire to keep up with all the fancy catch-phrases/lingo/deck-names/etc...

If you're not familiar with the Gatherer, you should try it out. It's great for finding cards with specific abilities (for example: "unblockable")

though i think technically, the english ones are slightly more rare. wasn't legends initially italian only? i find the english ones slightly more expensive.

English Legends was released in June 1994, while Italian Legends was released sometime in 1995 after the Italian version of The Dark.

If my memory serves me correctly, i'm thinking Wizards printed more of the newer Italian version of the set than what they printed of the original English version.

... Italian chain lightnings... it just feels great to have the most awesome deck I can to play with.
Aren't English versions of Legends cards more sought after than Italian? I'm not slamming your choice to use the Italian ones, just was thinking in light of a "pimping thread", that i'd mention it...

But really... i guess the coolest version is just in the eye of the individual. (I personally like alpha & beta lightning bolts more than the various promo/foil ones). Most valuable is a different subject...

I couldn't help but notice Mana Drain's absence from the reserved list. Yikes!

Mox Diamond is going to be reprinted in the FTV:R set coming this fall. Keep an eye on that price.

Mox Diamond is still not a fair comparison to Imperial Recruiter, Loyal Retainers, Strategic Planning, Rolling Earthquake, Ravages of War, etc. Their are WWWAAAAYYYY more Mox Diamond's currently in circulation than the P3K rares & uncommons.

    Quote from Sillia
P3K cards aren't ridiculously priced because of their rarity, they're ridiculously priced because of a combination of rarity and demand. There are plenty of P3K cards that aren't very valuable.

I noted that several times already in this post. In my last post, however, instead of continuing to re-itterate those details, i used shorthand by letting that be an "understood" point. So when i was referring to the P3K cards, i specifically meant the desirable ones. I appologize for the confussion.
