I was wondering thoughts on this deck list? I found the original shell in a MTGGoldfish article, and decided to work on it abit. I've recently returned to playing MTG so bit shaky on the meta besides what i have read.
The deck focuses more on milling and drops some of the control as the original deck here. Combining Fevered Visions with Sphinx's Tutelage to set off a draw/mill cycle. Add in Magmatic Insight, Tormenting Voice] and Catalog can lead to big mill chains. The deck does better vs mono or small dip decks, but can play vs multi-coloured decks as well.
I feel the SB needs work. Against control it has some options, but, bit as many. The problem is I guess i don't know the meta of the story i will play in (as I have yet to buy the deck) so trying to make one as flexible as possible. below are cards i am considering. I feel the planeswalkers are too slow though. Startled Awake could be beneficial against control as it can be recurred from the graveyard if it is countered.
Any advice for 2 return players looking to get back into standard for about $75-$100 each? ideally looking for decks that won't lose a lot of key cards to Septembers rotation.
We have been looking at 4 decks so far all within the price range, but are very very open to suggestions. I normally like combo/interaction decks and my GF likes synergy/tribal decks
I recently returned to magic and was hoping to get some help with this deck.
My local store is out of Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Kytheon, Hero of Akros, Archangel of Tithes and Declaration in Stone. Knowing this I have put together this list, but was after some tuning feedback. The previously mentioned cards will be added when the store gets more stock, but for now I really want to get stuck in and play!
To cut cost I can always cut 4x Shambling Vent and add 4x Forsaken Sanctuary saving me $21. Current deck price is $84 (This excludes Gideon as we already own one). Cutting shambling will drop us to 63 if needed. The other option is cut 2x Drana, Liberator of Malakir saving about $19, adding in 1x Drana's Emissary and 1x ... something?
I have been looking around for a fun budget deck to play, and found this deck on MTG goldfish. It seems fun to play, and is just within my budget (about $80). My other option is a Budget WW deck. Whilst I feel humans may be a tad more consistent, and have more to build on, this Fevered-Tutelage deck seems fun, and, unexpected. it seems to (from reading) have a good place to handle agro and control, as its SB is flexible, and it uses a weird strat not common in the meta.
The concept is based around Fevered Visions + Sphinx's Tutelage, coupled with lots of card draw and even Alhammarret's Archive. The SB can shift to add in more burn for fast aggro, or to side in a more control focus while getting off the mill strat. The use of Thing In The Ice helps add some blockers/creature beat down as well.
My main concerns I guess are it isn't as strong against multi-coloured decks, and, it doesn't have as much room to build onto it, unlike a WW humans.
I also feel Alhammarret's Archive could be removed. It is $10 (1/8 of my budget) and has come into play rarely in playtests (in fact i have cast it once) but I am unsure how to replace it.
I'm looking to get back into standard play, but, I only have a budget of about $80.
I am tossing up between a mono W human deck or a random fun mill deck. I thought I would share the humans here for some feedback to see if Mono humans is viable ona budget as it loses it's big finishers.
My GF and I are looking at getting back into playing some standard, but both being uni students we have a tight budget to stick to ($100 for 2 decks). As a joke for Christmas her mum got us both a MTG booster, and one of the cards I got was Gideon.
My GF likes combo style decks where each card interacts, so I thought to use the Gideon I got to build her an ally deck. I did a little research and came up witht he following deck, that i was hoping to gets oem feedback on for her.

The SB is a WiP
I am considering dropping Odric, Lunarch Marshal for Hanweir Militia Captain in the main deck as a better finisher. Or possibly leaving 1 Odric and adding 2 Hanweir MB.
Thanks for any feedback!

Twice a year rotations sound expensive
I'll guess I will op over to the mono-Red and Gruul threads and see what is around to get an idea for deck building
Thanks again!
